RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome on the 8th
Whit Dispite the lose of my Pup, I had a blast! It was a tough one though, Hangeover on fri. from the crash on thursday, snaped a control horn doing a spin on my rebuilt 34 year old cub on Sunday. That went in from 120 feet up or so thru the oak trees behind the flag on the hill. Thought for sure it was a total lose as was the pup. But to my amazement she was on here nose wedged in between huge trees with very, very minimal damage. One nights work and she'll be air worthy. Then to top it off with some good luck I take first place with my Ryan YPT-16 that I test flew on Fri. and flew again Sunday. Thinking the bad luck was over I picked up a huge bolt in my front tire on the way home to Ma and for some reason my cub wings got lose from the rack in the trailer and fell onto my D-6 struts punching a hole in the wings that didn't get a scratch in the spin crash!!!!! Man can a guy get a break? But all and all, Rhinebeck to me is the most rewarding weekend I have all summer, and I wouldn't miss it for nothing. Good friends, great people, and very exciting.........At Times??? TK

Boy it looks bigger than 37%! I guess my half scale tripe will be really huge than. How about some close up shots of the detail, such as the guns, engine, and cockpit. Very well done for sure, but than what does one exspect when a guy with a last name like that built it! Ski! TK

RE: GTM 1/2 Scale Fokker Triplane
Gentlemen who will be building the GTM triplane along with me. Good news Glenn has been working on getting our parts ready and he and I have been back and forth a lot on designs and parts and hardware to be used. The landing gear has been figured out and will boast a new scale build up from his previous designs. The plans are almost finished. All the control horns have been cut, and the metal parts are now in production down in Texas. We also have included another member to the build. I will be recieving a large portion of the short kit from him when I see Glenn at Rhinebeck so the build will start in late september. You all will be recieving your parts and master list soon after to follow along with me. It won't be long! TK

RE: Byron Ryan ST-A
Gentlemen I just happened on to this build thread on the Byron Ryan St-A . In May I purchased a Ryan which was very well used and needed much restoration. As I started I relized I would have been much better off having built a new kit. The wings were dented up, leading and trailing edges on all surfaces were very bad. Gouges in the foam everywhere. It was missing all the flap mechinisim, the cowl was a reck, both wind screens were no good. And it was missing all the fiberglass to the landing gear except the pants. It also had no flying wires, but did come with the Byron mount for a Quadra which I have installed. I happened onto Ironbay which had bought out most of Byrons stuff. I gave them a list but got no answer. Then suddenly a kit came up not far from me for 330.00 bucks. I had already started to restore the ryan I had so I decided to buy the kit anyway to get the parts I needed. To make a long story short I have restored the ryan into a YPT- 16 and I am two weeks away from completion. Plus Iron Bay just got back to me so I will eventually get the replacement parts I used in the new kit and have that complete once again. I will post some pictures here soon after I finish. I am plaining to bring the model to Rhinebeck for the Jamboree in Sept. as they allow planes up to 1939. TK

RE: GTM 1/2 Scale Fokker Triplane
Well Gentlemen We have 8 confirmed builders on the Triplane build for Dayton 2014. This will fill Glenns avalibility for the short kit. Two other Fokker projects are being built but wish to remain private. So there are no more 1/2 scale Fokker cowls left. As soon as Glenn gets the parts from the metal cutter and the ribs and hinges done we will start on the build. Looking at September to start. All aspects of this build will be posted on this thread. Until then, Happy Flying Don't forget Rhinebeck !!!! TK

Kirk You have to get a hold of Glenn to get on the build list. Not sure how many are positive at this point. But it is close to 10. Hope you get in on the build. Also would like to mention, my 1/2 scale D-8 is for sale at 12,000. It can be seen on the build thread. Tom

RE: 1/4 Scale Stinson Reliant
Doc The engine goes like hell with that prop on it. I'm over powered for sure on this one. When I throttled up for take off it was like it has nitrous, I had to keep backing the throttle down after I climbed out. I also have a quadra 75 that I wing a 28x10 on also that engine loves that prop, plenty of RPM's. In the old days I used to put 16x8's on long stroke 60 glow engines, on my ww-1 types. The good old days. TK

RE: 1/4 Scale Stinson Reliant
That's how much the exstention shaft for the engine weighed. The whole airplane is actually quite heavy, but flew very nice. I'd say she's around 48 lbs. After take off I throttled back to 1/3rd and she cruised real nice. The aproach and landing were solid, tail up landing till I put it down. Tracks real straight. Fast plane to fly. Brisson 5.8 with a 28x10 TK

RE: 1/4 Scale Stinson Reliant
These pictures were taken at the 2011 Rinebeck Jamboree. During the test flight I asked a friend to take some pictures, the only one he got was of the plane rolling out after landing? I asked him where were the pic's of the flight? He commented he was too busy watching the plane fly. I still have the cockpit to finish, and of course fly the plane more, so until then, Thanks for tunning in Gentlemen. TK

RE: 1/4 Scale Stinson Reliant
Here I have finished up the fairings that cover the gap in the wing where it plugs into the fuselage. Also I have made radio cables from rudder to wing tips, hard to see. This is as far as I got on the build. The model was brought to the Rhinebeck Jamboree of that year 2011. I test flew it there and won first place for best scale plane. Now when time permits with the driedecker build going on and other summer chores I hope to add some more details and get it in the air for the next Rhinebeck event in sept. TK

RE: 34 Yr. Old 1/4 J-3 Cub Rebuild
Here are some props I made for static and some I altered for flying. It's always fun to make stuff like this plus it adds so much to the front of your model. Nothing worse than seeing a big plastic prop on a beautiful scale model. TK

RE: 34 Yr. Old 1/4 J-3 Cub Rebuild
To customize or scale out a flying prop like this one is easy. I scrap the varnish finish off with a razor blade, then sand, stain, paint and clear coat. The stain is a puritain pine, the tips are a mix of chrome yellow and dark green. The leading edge is just taped off and painted with testors brass. After that drys I just take a piece of 1/16th wire and dip it in some aluminum testors buffing spray paint and touch the brass leaving a dot as a rivet. The decals are from Major decal. They make all kinds of prop decals. TK
