AFPD Starflight large TMD file planes won't load
I loaded add on 2 Starflight on AFPD for both windows XP and Windows 7 (yes, they are different AFPD versions) but planes with larger .TMD files like the A10 and the B29 display the message "AFPD main executable has encoutered a problem and needs to close". Most of other planes work fine. I've searched the net for anyone else having this problem and found nothing. Any ideas? I've tried the patches on Ikarus website and downloaded the latest Open GL CG driver for the ATI Radeon X1250 all to no avail.

Modellbau Tornado V3 or F86D
Had a mishap at the field this weekend with my Modellbau MB339. The airframe is dumpster bound so I must fill the void of my loss with a replacement. The price is right on both of Modellbau's Tornado V3 and F86D. I'm asking advice from the vast knowledge on RCU. Recommendations?

Hate to keep being a pest but I have few more questions - can you tell me what your F15s weight was (all 3 main tanks empty, UAT full)? - by CG on the forward spar do you mean the forward carbon fiber dowel that mounts the wing to the plane? - my exhaust pipe is touching the rear recessed lip that the main hatch seats down into, I have ceramic matting covered with tin foil in that area. Did yours do that?

Thank you for the info. The info I got for the throws was 1" up/down ailerons, 1" left/right on rudder and 2" up/down on stabs. Do those sound right to you? BTW looking flight. You make it look easy.

Thank you for the PDF. Should help a lot. A couple more questions. - How far your flaps go down and how much elevator (up or down) you've dialed in to compensate for the flap deployment? - Any special tips for flying the plane (I'm flying on grass), take off, landing, etc. Thank you!

RE: Reaction ARF wing blew up in flight
Actually the wings never made it all the way back to the factory. Taiwan customs had them held up wanting import money because they were treating them as an import instead of a return. I guess the US isn't the only place with stupid bureaucratic red tape! Any way Kumpol sent me an email and said that he was just going to trust me instead of wasting time with customs. He told me he only had one blue and yellow left so I told him the yellow or green would be okay as a replacement since it was his last blue and yellow. He sent me a yellow with the red and black stripes. I did receive the X version with the longer nose. Makes it look much more sleek don't you think?

Thank you for the information. Think I'll skip on it. I recently lost a Chinese 1/7 scale BAE Hawk that I had a 5" EDF in on 12S Lipos. I want to replace the plane and use the same power setup but I'm looking for something other than the Hawk but that is just as inexpensive as it was (about $300). Any ideas?

Has anyone built one of these planes? I'm wondering what the difficulty level of the kit is and exactly what comes in the kit. I've read what he has on his website but there's not a lot of description there.

Thanks for the reply Kumpol! How do I go about sending the wings back to Thailand? The other wing is busted up but, whole so I'm going to need to put it in a large box. Do you have a UPS account or otther courier service account I could use? How about me sending it to Bruce Tharpe Engineering instead. I wouldn't mind paying for that freight. Also I need the shipping address. Thanks again for your inquiry!

Almost forgot about BobH's reply about seeing the wing's leading edge without it being propped open. Here's a pic of the same wing portion without the prop. Note that I applied some tape to hold it closed in its original position. .

RE: Reaction ARF wing blew up in flight
Thank you for the elaborative and insightful commentary David! I can tell you with absolute certainty that I cannot tell when a composite structure starts to exhibit signs of fatigue. Maybe other modelers can. I agree with you that some people do grossly overpower their planes and get away with it for many flights (i.e. Kraivuth purposely trying to over stress the Reaction ARF to see if it will fail with a high powered turbine) but I don't think that this plane lands in that category with a mere 21 lbs of thrust. You wondered how my particular plane had been flown and I would say the it was flown moderately agressive. Having said that the airframe had only five 5 - 7 minutes flights on it. I will guarantee that if I do buy another Reaction ARF it will get tape on the leading edge. I wonder if the current production Reaction ARF build instructions state that tape needs to be applied to the wing's leading edges.

Great sleuthing Gordon! I hadn't noticed the serial number cut off. Stupid me thought the serial number on mine was R10A. If this wing was outside of the serial numbered wings that had the seam problem I wonder why, as appearences would have it, mine split?

RE: Reaction ARF wing blew up in flight
Sorry Dreamer! I didn't think that was really relative to this thread considering the failure mode. Here ya go anyway! From what I can ascertain there are 6 ribs, one main spar and one on the trailing edge. Two joiner tubes. The main tube, 1" diameter aluminum, extends into each wing half about a foot and the smaller one, 1/2" diameter aluminum, extends into each wing half about 6". There are 3 ribs supporting the main tube receiver however, rib #3 is heavily cross braced to rib #4 by the retract mounting plate (1/2" plywood I believe).

Interesting debate going on! Many good points being made! I appreciate everyone's insight. Heck I'd be happy with a discount on a new plane. I looked at other jets from other manufacturers last night but I'm still stuck on the sssswweeettt flying Reaction ARF.

RE: Reaction ARF wing blew up in flight
Good points Duncan! I checked the wing before it's maiden flight. I can't say I checked it thoroughly every day before it's first flight but I would look at when assemblinbg the plane as much as I do the rest of the plane. It did only have 5 flights on it over 4 flying days. I always use two people to take it from the rack I assemble it on to the flight line. We always carry it by the fuse, one on the nose and one on the tail.

Thanks for the reply Sonicwings. The turbine took a big hit. The front bezel section, starter motor, center canister and tail cone all got damaged. It's going back to Jetcat for repairs. All three satellite recievers got ripped off their cords, front strut damaged, air trap, smoke and fuel tanks destroyed, turbine and smoke lipo batteries damaged beyond use, smoke pump damaged, propane tank and both brake and retract air tanks busted, power meters had their leads ripped ott, etc, etc, etc.

RE: Reaction ARF wing blew up in flight
To test it we squeezed the leading edges. It is a very rigid composite wing so we couldn't really twist it with out using extreme force. I do agree that we as the pilots are ultimately responsible for the plane's airworthiness but, there has to be some culpablity accepted by the manufacturer to deliver a structurally sound aircraft as well. Thanks for the reply!
