RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Any word on canopies and plastic? I haven't lost hope yet.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
They look great Chuck. Love the heavy weathering. Can't wait to see them together in the air. -Jeff

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Jerry, I agree with you. I sent Rich an email several months ago regarding the Bronco parts. I never recieved a reply. I have no idea what transpired between Rich and Fiberglass specialties today, but do feel dissapointed myself as it seemed as if we had a solution for a brief moment. I can only imagine how you feel with a finished model. Good luck on your search for a canopy. Glad I never went further than purchasing the plans.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
I bought the plans with the intent of doing a dual build with a buddy. We intended to have two of them electric powered. I will build my own landing gear but without the canopy we won't even start the project. I am not looking for museum scale here. A canopy with minimal details would be fine on this sport scale airplane. Where do plan sellers like Ziroli, Meister and Jerry Bates get their canopies from? I have never heard a bad thing about the design and flying qualities of this plane. It is a shame no one can get canopies.

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Anyone here any updates on the plastic parts for the Bronco? I am looking to start the build this year but don't want to get into it if I can't get a canopy.

RE: jerry bates kits , airplanes , etc
Success, I flew the rebuilt Hellcat today. Big Thanks to Rich Eggleston for the help with everytyhing. The plane flies great, very stable and easy to fly. Only issue is the elevators wanted to flutter. We think it is due to the rods that connect the servos to the elevators. Both mine and my buddies had CF rods from the servos under the cockpit to the elevators. Both planes had the elevators fluttering we think due to the rods vibrating in flight. I will be changing the linkage for the elevators, but other than that it flew great. It came home in one piece so I am happy.

RE: jerry bates kits , airplanes , etc
John, Both had Zenoah G45s turning 20 x 10 props. Weight was right around 24 lbs. My buddy said his flew really well. He had two dead stick landings on the first and second flight and the plane was rock solid and floated in beautifully. Plenty of wing and tail. It was a very solid flyer. I hope to re-maiden mine this weekend and will let you know how it goes.

RE: jerry bates kits , airplanes , etc
Here are a couple of Bates Hellcats. Unfortunately neither of them lasted long. The one with the lightning bolt was lost on the maiden due to a balancing error (tail heavy, still not sure how I messed up), The other was lost at Fond Du Lac this year after tail flutter. It flew great though. I have built a new wing for the first one and it is ready to fly. Hope to fly it this weekend. The other is a total loss and the builder is moving on to other planes. Pretty easy build but the flaps are a pain.

RE: Let's See Your Luftwaffe Birds!!!
Here is my Brian Taylor FW-190. Magnum 80 four stroke, Spring Air retracts, Shindin Struts, glass cloth with Warbird Colors Paints and Get Stencils stencils. It flies nice but I am still working out how to land it without haveing to repair something.

RE: Brian Taylor FW190 wing incidence.
I am not sure about the incidence. I just built mine per the plans. I never actually checked it. Here is my Brian Taylor FW190. Recently finished it hasn't flown yet. I am hoping for a maiden flight this week. I will let you know how it flies. I had to add 1 pound of weight to the nose for balance.

RE: should I grab this plane?
This is a very interesting thread with lots of heated opinions. I really don't know or really care if the corsair is right for you or not. O.K. a little bit of me wants to see it crash and burn but that is not personal, I just like to see the mayhem.[8D] I have no experience with the 60 size Kyosho corsair but I would still probably put it in more of the sport plane catagory than the warbird. It likely has light wing loading for a warbird and will probably be pretty easy to fly all in all. I had the chance to fly the Hanger 9 big P-47 last week and I have to say that was one of the easiest planes that I have ever flown. The owner put a new four blade prop on it right before I took it up which was not a good idea. The take off was hairy and climb performance and top speed was horrible. I almost lost it on take off due to too much up trim and not enough airspeed. I had to pushing forward on the stick at take off to get the nose down while it was near stalling and rolling to the right. Once in the air it went fine and the landing was a piece of cake. It was rock steady and practically landed itself. It should be no problem for an RC prodigy. Anyway, I like everyone else am eager to see the flight of the Corsair. If you are as gifted as you say or even half as gifted then either the Corsair or the P-47 should be no problem. Good Luck.

RE: Which Air Retracts Provide Best Value?
Spring air retracts with Shindin or other struts are probably a good, fairly economical, strong and reliable way to go. I have a set of this combo in my Brian Taylor FW190 and they seem to work great. You can slow the up and down some by putting a restrictor in the line from the retract valve to the actuators. Since the valve releases the air pressure at the actuators when you command them down this helps slows the gear down. The down stroke is faster than up but is a lot less violent than when not restricted. The Shindin struts I have fit directly into the retracts 3/8" hole so there are no set screws holding the strut to a smaller strut wire. I like the failsafe feature of the spring airs and the simplicity of only one air line to each retract. Less things to go wrong is always nice. Just my opinion.

RE: Phoenix Sukhoi engine mounting
I just finished my sukhoi. I had the same thought as you when I looked at the hole in the firewall, but I think it is just an illusion. The hole does look low because of the cut out for the muffler, but once my engine was mounted the cowl centered up very nicely with the spinner. I basically just went by the picture in the manual with the engine (2 stroke) mounted 45 degrees inverted with the muffler in the factory cut out.

Flying in Plainwell, MI
Is there a flying club in Plainwell, Michigan. I went to a jet fly in there a few years ago. I am moving to the area, but can't find a club there on the AMA site. I know about several other clubs in and around Kalamazoo.

MDS 68 vs GMS 76
I have the GMS 76 and I am very impressed with it. I have only run it on the bench but it is turning a Master Airscrew 13x6 at 11,000 with about two tanks of 10% Omega through it. It starts and runs great with a great low idle and fantastic throttle response without any stumbling. This is my first GMS engine and I am very impressed for the money. I got the engine from Golden State RC because they will send it with a pitts muffler. :)

Would a great planes p-51d mustang be ok for second plane??
I have the GP p-51 kit and it is a great flying plane. With a Magnum 46 it really screams and I would say it is a bit much to handle for your second plane. Landings with this plane can be tricky especially if you have only landed a trike gear trainer. My second plane was a Tiger 2. I built it with the trike gear and then converted it to a taildragger before flying the Mustang (my third plane). I would recomend going a similar route I did. The Mustang is very responsive and I think you could get in to trouble faster than you are ready for if you just soloed recently. Good Luck with whatever you choose.
