RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread
The only way I would build the wing without fiberglassing the center section/wing to wing joint is if I were to build it as Dave Platt does his wing designs, with one continuous spar. The other thing to look at is MinnFlyers remarks about the Ultra Sport "Light" that he built at one time. While the conventional wisdom is that lighter is better, it's not necessarily the case with the Ultra Sport, and in fact heavier might be better.

RE: Let's see your work shop!
I spent 4 years in Shreveport, LA while in the USAF,,,, yes its nice not being cold but the summers... UGH! 120 degrees on the flight line inside the cockpit of a B-52.. no thanks!!! I moved back to WI (must be crazy!) because I missed snow! When its cold its EASY to get warm... but when you are over heated.... tough luck getting cool without your own personal power plant! haha
Now see, I'm just the opposite. I grew up in NorthEastern Indiana, spent 4 winters in Min(dr)ot, ND, as a B-52 Crew Chief and progessively moved South. After Hurricane Katrina, I took a job in Groton, CT, for the Winter. It was beautiful, but I can't stand the cold anymore (or high cost of living) and moved back to the Gulf Coast the following spring. You might hear me say, "Man it's hot!", but you'll never hear me complain about it.
ORIGINAL: phatbob02 Oh MAN !! DON'T COVER THE OLD STONE...... OR WOOD BEAMS!!!![:(]
Unless it's necessary for insulation. Winters get pretty frigid in that part of the country (which is why I live in the South [:D]).

RE: Here's a simple tip!
Great tip! I thought I was the only Moron that couldn't get CA tips to fit properly without cracking. I had completely given up on using Thin CA because of it.

RE: SIG Kadet Senior Kit Ailerons
Do it! A Senior with ailerons is sooooo much fun. Add a bomb drop, a camera pod, a paratrooper, floats... This plane can do it all!

RE: What's on your building table or next in line?
Currently building an Ultra Sport 60 with mods ( a build thread will be published eventually). It'll probably be the only build this year as it's slow going due to life's other commitments and the fact that we don't have a "build season" per se down here, we fly all year long [:D].

RE: ***B-17 Gathering, Bomber Field, Tx 2009. RCU Onsite Coverage***
It looked like there was a piece missing on the right side near the nose, that's why I thought it was a hatch.

RE: ***B-17 Gathering, Bomber Field, Tx 2009. RCU Onsite Coverage***
Looks like they still have a few bugs to work out. He lost a main tire on take-off, the X-1 seemed a little loose in it's cradle, and he lost a hatch during manuevers.

RE: Remembering Carl Goldberg Models
I think we can thank the state of the modeling world that has gotten away from building kits to assembling ARFs for the demise of many kit manufacturers. I've been trying to do my part to keep kit building alive. It's the only way I'll aquire the skills to move up to scale.

RE: How old are you?
38. I started in plastic models pre-teen, model rockets all through my teens, and bought my first R/C kit (Super Sportster 20) when I joined the Air Force in 1989. Been spending time and money on them ever since [:D].

Maynard, sorry to hear about your misfortunes with the last two US60's, but look at it this way, with two under your belt, the third one should be perfect [:D]. I say build another US60!

RE: Ultra Sport 60 build,
Some of your turns in the video looked very flat to me, and I wondered on a few occasions if it would snap/stall. I would say to definitely use less rudder.

RE: If you have to work on Labor Day...
I really can't complain. I work seven days on then seven days off, so I really only work half the year. The only time I really complain is when the weather is good on my weekend to work and not so good on my weekend off [:@].

RE: Ultra Sport 60 build,
Congratulations Alex. I've gotten back to working on mine and will probably post a build thread when I'm closer to completeing it so that I can organize the thread and keep it short. Mine will be much like MinnFlyers with the exception of a few scale-like details including lights [:D], and a fiberglassed finish.

AMA12909 - maybe just posting a link to your photos would be better if you can't post resized pictures. Ken - good coverage my friend. How's the hand? There are a few events upcoming down here in the 'Bama/Florida region, and by chance I have those weekends off this year. If there's any interest, I'll try to get coverage of those for RCU.

Lived in New Haven, IN, until I was 18 and joined the USAF. Lived North, East, West, and finally settled in the South! Mobile, AL, to be exact. It took me a while to find heaven on earth, but i finally found it. BTW, Hell finally froze over, and it's in Minot, ND [:D]!

RE: Charlie Kellogg's TBM Avenger Build
Hi guys, I know I'm coming to this late, but was wondering about the landing gear. I have a short kit for the Jerry Bates Grumman Guardian (WS 112") that I'm trying to gather all the needed pieces/parts for before I begin assembly, which won't be in the near future. Who would be my best source for Landing Gear? I'm at work now, so I don't have the dimensions offhand, but I know that they are very similar to the Avengers (bent knee).

RE: Fill Valve for Spring Air's
Maybe I need to look at it closer when I get home next week. I didn't see a way for the pump fitting to screw onto the fill valve like the Robart fill valve does.
