How about a "Live chat get together?"
These forums have been great and I would love to go to an actual tank club, but there are none close to me. I think it would be awesome if we could schedule a live chat some night (maybe using AIM?) and see how it goes. Just a thought.

My Tiger runs at 19.2 MPH
My heavily weighed down metal HL Tiger travels at 19.2 MPH if it is adjusted to its scale or 1.2 MPH. Is this a good speed?

Be aware you also need to get a special connector to connect from your turret to the RX18 board. Where do I get this?

RE: Mysterious electrical problems with HL Tiger I
This is quite odd. I have three batteries: Two 1700 mAH NiCDs and one 3000 mAH NiMH. They all work on their first run, but on the second recharge its like the batteries are ancient. The lights dim with the main motor, turret rotation, and barrel elevation. I have a new 3800 mAH battery coming in the mail. I wonder if my boards are having some adverse affects on the batteries. It's an RX13 and I'm itching to put in an RX18, but I need to curtail money on the money pit (I say it in a positive way, yet truthful way)

RE: Tiger I bearing trouble/questions
Woot, a little (Ok, alot of sanding) of the inside bore of the bearing got it onto the drive shaft. I love what you did to the actual gearboxes! Unfortunately, my gearboxes seem to be affixed permanently ... I remove the screws attaching it to the hull and its still in there rock solid. My reinforced bottom plates and L-bars made putting in the gearboxes horribly tricky. They just fit in by a fraction of a mm!

I am interested in making my own custom smoker, but I am uncertain on how to setup the heating mechanism. Pushing, say, 7.2V through a few 1 ohm resistors crossed my mind, but I am worried over the safety.

Tiger I bearing trouble/questions
Based on some posts here, I ordered some bearings from AvidRC.com, it was a 8x14x4 (or something, the first number matters, it's the bore size in millimeters) Well, 8 mm bearings don't really fit on the drive shaft :( The bore can be sanded, filed, and forced onto the drive shaft, but it ruins the bearings....Hmm. The next step up is 10 mm bore, but that seems to defeat the purpose of a tight drive shaft. D'oh! Any solutions?

Mysterious electrical problems with HL Tiger I
I built this Tiger exactly one year ago. The only thing I'v done to it recently is repair a loose connector to a speaker, but the tank was running fine after that — then something happened. The tank has the following modifications: A 3000 mAh battery, one a green indicator LED connected to the main with some resistors to indicate the tank is on, otherwise the electronics are stock! Four days ago: I drove the tank half a mile on a walk and by the end it showed no sign of slowing down! Three days ago: Figuring the battery was somewhat drained, I charged it for a few hours. Two days ago: The tank was running normally for about five minutes and showed a sudden decrease in power. I charged it some more to no avail. Yesterday: I fully discharged the battery Today: I charged the battery fully to a voltage of 7.5V What are my results? I try to drive forward and the headlights dim down to nothing and the tank lurches an inch or two. Sound seems weak, but oddly the headlights go on stronger when, say, I hit the recoil button on the remote. Suggestions? This Tiger is in a sad state this way :(

I have quite a bit experience with reinforcing. I cant tell you how long this took last year, and now asia-tam came out with a similar upgrade for only $120!

RE: Mato King Tiger Questions
It seems much of the concern is the tank not having enough power. I am eyeing the $200 one with metal upgrades at mao. If the metal gearbox is not strong enough, what upgrades cure this ill? Oh, what is the news on the suspension? When I got my first tiger, the plastic spigots broke off one by one, I trust there must be some reinforcment?

1) Is the $200 (metal gears and track) version worth it? 2) ANy major problems? 3) Is the suspension reinforced? (the original HL tigers didnt fare too well until recently...) 4) Anything else?

The new lower metal hull is exactly what I was looking for for my Tiger I — a year ago. I built all that myself over countless hours :sigh: I'm eyeing a new jagpanther. Would the upper hull fit on the asiam metal tiger lower hull?

Driving your tank in public, reactions?
Ok, I dont mean at the supermarket, but I mean in parks. It's a real crowd pleaser for young kids. Today I was in a park and one five year old said, "A tank! a real tank!" More and more came until a crowd of them formed. I started to get nervous when they seemed to try to pull it apart  They tried to follow it the best they could. One 10 year old even correctly identified it as a tiger. Wow!

Ever since upgrading to alot of metal, my tank is understandably heavier. The stock springs dont cut it anymore, does anyone know a good source to get strong springs? Thanks.

Rivets for metal tiger wheels
I upgraded to late production metal tiger tank wheels. I am not happy in the "slop" of the wheels; they wiggle all over the place. I was thinking of replacing the axels with a tighter fitting rivet. Does anyone know a good place to buy said rivets and the size? Thanks.

I'll give these upgrades a try. Right now the tracks really dont feed into the drive sprockets well, instead of smoothly going in, they kinda clunk in. It's strange, the metal wheels are flush against the suspension arms.

Does that kettelspanner come in one or two? Its 18 euros = $30, but does that come in a pair? I dont understand why I need to remove the gearboxes? The bearing only goes on the outside

RE: Not happy with HL Tiger Build
To clear some confusion:Yes, I do have metal spigots (very, very, very strong) on a reinforced metal base. Thanks for all the advice, guys. I really like the flanged bearing idea, it looks relatively simple, but how does one fasten it? It looks like it would have trouble fastening to the hull because of the gearboxes. Anyhow, what are the dimensions should I get? Where do I get a track tensioner? I think the suspension axels are not wide enough in the metal wheels, they seem to jostle. Take a look at the picture below:
