RE: Hard versus Soft mount gasser
Here is a few pics of my BME 102 with a Hyde mount on my Taylorcraft. It is around 16 ounces however and rather expensive. I also the recall the pattern fellows claiming much lower servo currents with isolation mounts. I used the mount because two of the three bolts on the backplate sheared. My DA 100 is solid mounted. I guess I'm a 50/50 voter!

RE: Quality CAMCORDER
I have a Canon Elura 60 which I got about a year ago. I found the zoom button was well positioned. I tried several zooms and found many to be too sensitive or poorly positioned and just too darned small.I am happy with it. Now I need to find decent editing software. http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ Any body have info on the top 2, PowerDirector or Ulead? I also need to upgrade my PC. I was going to get a MediaCentre OS but I see the Muvee program scored poorly... Hyper threading , dual cores etc, etc this stuff can drive u nuts

RE: thunder tiger e-hawk 2000 heavy wing
I have used long finishing nails (clous?) to balance a wing. Just drill thru the tip and push them in with a bit of glue. A flying bud just recovered his TT wing and it took off a third of the weight of the original wing! That covering they use is heavy stuff!!

I'm ready for a large sailplane too. I see that there is a specific electric version of the Alpina 4001 , as well the "Master editions". However I saw that the masters were discontinued on another thread ???. If i were to go electric I would consider the Simprop Solution XL too. I still tend to prefer pure sailplanes, like the MPX ASH 26. Any comments on availibility, flight performance.

RE: Club endurance race
Sorry HPIchuk but there are two ways to connect batteries and or cells, one being in series and the other in parallel. In series the voltage is multiplied and in parallel the capacity is multiplied. This is common in the LiPo batts to hook them up in both series and parallel where the parallel connection helps discharge at a higher rate.

Oh yeah another idea for lowering current draw was to run harder brushes, suppossed to be easier on the comm too.

RE: Club endurance race
Sorry for the delay( I was waiting for an email notice but didnt get any) what I did mean was changing packs unless of course you decided to hook them up in parallel to give you 9900mah! Indeed with the recharging is where the challenge begins, as smmetz pointed out . Most people have 5 amp max chargers so a full charge may not be reached before you "gotta go". We were however brainstorming some crazy ideas for efficiency. How about disconnecting the front drive. Low gearing would almost be a must, especially to keep the motor cool. Hard inserts would be good as would getting rid of any extra drag like a wing. Driving style also makes a huge difference. You could put a stock armature in a can with adjustable timing and time it close to zero. I think an hour would be best for the 10ah limit. Nitro? Killnine have you heard of nitro guys running for five hours?

Club endurance race
We were planning a short endurance race this summer in our club. I know they have 4-5 hour races but we want to keep it manageable at one hour or 1.5. If you havent given this much thought there is actually much to consider. To keep things fair to novice drivers I suggested a cap on totals battery mah capacity of 10,000. For eg, 3x 3300mah packs would bring you just under the limit. This would put emphasis on efficiency . From some quick calcs I figured with unlimited batts it would be benefical to run quite a hot set-up. I timed a battery change at 40 secs in my TC3 which incl. taking the body off. Does anybody know the rules for Tamiya type mega races? Also any input on this type of event would be welcome.

Brushless braking??
Several of us that race TC's are contemplating getting a BL system and I started wondering how the braking works due to the lack of brushes. I know there is still some resistance due to the magnets but this would not be enough. I guess they have to charge the windings to slow down?? Also what is the coasting drag like without the brushes?

Life of servos,gears in 35%
I got Hitec 5645 servos in my 35% Edge and there is slop after 30 long flights. Just curiuos how often everyone is changing servos or gears? I started with JR 4721 on the wing. Then I tried the metal gear conv. 2721. These were garbage and got bad play after only a few flights. On one servo the pin in the case elongated the hole but the other side just the gears went.

RE: BME 105 or DA100...
I have an OMP Edge 35% with a DA 100. I started with a BME 102 EVO. The DA ignition and wires are a better system than the CH. I had a cap on the CH come off, I guess its common practice to wrap the ground wire around it and then put the hose clamps to secure it all. Then I had those temp problems with the ignition, luckily did not crash because of it. Good chunk of the summer gone messing with that. Next the backplate bolts broke, one held for a landing. I also had oil leak from the plug threads and mufflers( DA comes with gaskets). Even though the DA is more power I did not notice a huge diff in flying ( 25.3lbs with the BME). The BME started just as well and uses less fuel. Its also much quieter on mufflers and a MSC 26x10.

RE: H9 SUKHOI - Wing "FAILURE" ???
It's a big bummer when u have to send stuff back. I had a "B" brand engine before my DA 100. Had to send the ignition back, $25 bucks there and $36 back, that CDN eh! Then warranty was required on the engine, here we go again! Came back with a $200 bill for taxes/duty so I sent it back to customs for reassessment. This is common practice by our customs agents, you send it back or pay it and wait 6 mts for your money. Then you have a 2 year warranty but its not much if you dont get to use the dam thing all summer[:@] I was close to going ARF but then decided to kit bash and am glad I did! I used my own spar design and test a sample for strength. It might not be a bad idea to sandbag an ARF wing before risking your $$$engine. I guess it should take a simulated 10G load, so 25lbs-5lbs wings=20lbs divided 2 wings =10lbs x10G = 100lbs sand per wing! My plane is good for +25 G's at a flying weight of 25 lbs[:)]

RE: Knife edge waggle
To me something is not being calculated into the loading is the fact that the rudder has a balancer, which would reduce the servo load . At a certain point( I think its about 25%) the area ahead of the hinge line would actually start to force the rudder away from neutral. One can tell by moving air over the rudder without any linkages attached to it. When 3D was evolving MAN had a pic of Mike McConville's modified MW 300 with a huge counterbalance which I copied building mine. I had the tail wiggle on windy days and an engineer friend told me what I stated above. Still, rudders like tons of power even with a balancer.

Wouldn't it be neat if you could pay to fly let's say a twin turbine Sukhoi or something. Oh just to have a 4 minute go at it! What would you dream of having a go at and how much would you pay for it?? Let's see, 50 per flight on a 40% aerobat x 300 flights = :greedy:

S.T. 3000/3250 Gas Conversion?
Easy enough to try it without the bearings. Couple of flights on glow was all I needed to convert. No kicking on start up, starts great in winter too! Mine were always cowled so I used a yellow foam ear plug to prime it, worked well. I had good idle too, easily run at 1700 , and down to 1400 for a little bit.

S.T. 3000/3250 Gas Conversion?
I did not use the bearing rod, just the stock bushed one and ran the recommended 10% oil. It made a bit more mess but otherwise no probs. My friend did put a bearing rod on a 3000, but he did not run his tons like I did. If i remember the bearing rod only fit the 3000 not the 3250. The 3000 seemed to be just as strong as the 3000 on muffler, the 3250 favoured a pipe which I had in my old Superstar.

I put many hours on them with a PRO-SPARK. I would recommend tapping the head to 10mm for a CM-6 plug, very durable. I had over 100 hrs use with very good reliability. Used a Walbro carb which is the only way to go.

Carden 35% edge weight
I built an OMP 35% Edge and it came in at 24.5 lbs with extensive weight mods but I am using 2 x 1400 mah Nicads for the rx. I have the BME 102 EVO, Tru turn spinner, 40 oz tank( 40min+), one rx, optical kill, sullivan tailwheel, Kavan 4" wheels. I have about 25 flights so far but had to send the CH in. I do not think I would have wanted it any lighter! Power is great. I eliminated the fuse side sheeting. I did not fully sheet the wings, stabs, ailerons, rudder. I put on both perpendicular and diagonal cap strips by routering into the foam 1/16" and using 1/8" caps. They lap under the sheeting, somewhat tedious. I also used a Aircraft Intl pilot but the head popped off from the vibes and had to dowel it, what a nitemare! I changed the wing joiner system to blade spars with 30G rating. Same goes for the stabs. The wings weigh 5lbs a pair ready to plug in, the stabs 1 lb. Remember that this includes the joiner as their integral to the wings.

35% Carden Cap Landing Characteristics !?!?
Well while we're on the subject of landings I'll add some more. I am flying a 35% Edge and noticed that the best landings were accomplished with the least elevator imput. I remembered reading in MAN about a Bearcat test where the fellow said to trim for landings just like the real planes. With flight modes on radio's this is a piece of cake, just mix in a little elevator trim at a time until she switches over to autoland :D

Sponsors wanted!
I think u should go after the Joe's pizza idea, so to speak. The rc industry is such a small resource, so why not go for other sponsers just like one see's Toyota or something on the real planes. I had my just finished 35% Edge at the field and someone invovled in real estate approached me for messing up my plane with decals, but I didnt want to wreck my nice scheme. :p Also look at race cars, Tide. etc I think many business's might find it a breath of fresh air to sponser a plane instead of the local hockey or soccer team. I have seen one club with many sponser Billboards at their field, you dont have to be the best pilot, just the sqeaky wheel that gets the grease, or squeakey muffler bearing :D

9' span trainer foil
I am rebuilding my big trainer to use a SAito 130 twin which I recently acquired. I have only the rear part of the plane which is just as well. It is actually a Skyward 120 arf , essentially their 60 blown up 150%. The original was 20 lbs with a OS 120 . It definitely flew on the wing, but it was an awesome plane to fly. The original foil has a little less than 2% camber and is semi-sym. It is about 13% thick. I feel that this foil gives up too much lift, I flew the 60 size and felt the same thing. I ahve a big Edge so this will be my floater, might even get floats for it. So does anyone have experience with some "flat bottom foils" like the NACA 4415 or true Clark Y. I built a small Cub with the S7055 but its only 10.5 % thick.I am upgrading my Compufoil to 2000 so I can hardly wait. This is going to be a fun project after doing the Edge all winter. I might add my target weight will be 13-14 lbs, & I'm usually close.
