RE: Model Aviation and Dogs
Koast, our rule is pretty simple. Any dog that shows aggression towards a person or another dog must immediately be removed from the field and is no longer welcome. As long as they get along well all are welcome. Pits have a bad reputation because so many have been bred and trained for aggressive traits, but I've also known many that are some of the sweetest, most gentle and loving dogs you could ever ask to have. It's how they were raised. If it comes down to a situation like you describe for our club then we'd most likely ban all dogs rather than single out a particular dog or breed. Since I'm on the Board of Directors for the club I can pretty much guarantee that's how it would be handled. We won't ask a member to forego a privilege others are free to enjoy but will revoke that privilege for all instead. It's the only fair way to handle it. BTW, both of our dogs are pound puppies and both are as sweet as can be. Can't imagine life without 'em! Both stay home when I go to the field, though, since they're inside dogs and not used to the wide open spaces where we live.

RE: Model Aviation and Dogs
At our club dogs are welcome but must be leashed and kept behind the pit area at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after them as well.

A good epoxy finish for the bench, then a ceiling tile for a pinning surface.

RE: 12' Telemaster- gonna need help
ORIGINAL: JeffinTD Tom, Harley and I took it out today. Other than some up trim, no real change to the excellent flight characteristics of the plane. In the light breeze it wants to weather vein, so I may add a water rudder. Breeze is coming right toward us, but not enough to make landing with the wind an issue. Harder to judge speed that way, though. Man, flying floats is a hoot! Taking off and landing on water is fun, and not as difficult as I feared. Power up and it comes on step promptly, then promptly gains speed, and a touch of up elevator gives a nice scale looking take off. Landing it seems to like to come in just a tad faster than you might on wheels. On one of our landings it wasn't perfectly level, but having one float touch down first didn't upset the plane at all, and it just settled in without changing course or doing anything weird.
Darn it, now I want to put my Apprentice on floats, even though there's nowhere to fly it from near me!

RE: Goldberg Tiger Club
Here's a pic of my Tiger 60 taken the day after I finished building it. I have since replaced the Fox .50 in the pic with a Saito .80: The covering is Hangar 9 Ultracote in Deep Blue and Bright Yellow. I'm glad I put the white numbers on the top of he wing, those and the yellow really pop in the sun and make keeping track easy.

RE: How many planes do you own? And what are they?
Right now I have 10. Well, 12 actually, but two of those are pure hangar queens that I don't count. The list of others is as follows: E-flite Apprentice 15e - the plane that got me back into the hobby Hobbyking Minimoa electric sailplane Carl Goldberg Tiger 60 Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk Great Planes Spirit 2x Great Planes Super Sportster .20 2x Great Planes Super Sportster 1.20 Das Ugly Stick Some of those are partially assembled or still in the box as kits, or are in need of repair. Most were given to me by someone getting out of the hobby so I currently have more airframes than I do engines or power systems or receivers for. I also have a set of plans for a Lou Andrews Aeromaster Bipe that I want to build someday.

RE: Goldberg Tiger Club
My Tiger 60 is a great airplane to fly. Stable, solid flying bird that is a pure joy to fly. I just finished the engine, going from a Fox .50BBRC to a Saito .80 for a bit more oomph. Haven't had a chance to fly the new combo yet, though.

RE: What size of RC planes do you like?
I tend to prefer models with at least 48" wingspan. It's tough because my transportation (Honda Civic sedan) means I'm limited on how big a plane I can carry. So far my Tiger 60 is the biggest I can fit in the car, and that requires both rear seat backs opened and he trunk emptied. Someday I will have a car/truck/van that will hold larger aircraft. Someday....

A new rocketeer
Seems kind of odd that someone who grew up in Houston during the height of the space race would take 50 years to try model rocketry, doesn't it? Whatever the reason I'm finally giving it a go. I just finished my first two rockets, the Estes Big Bertha and Big Daddy. They haven't flown yet, hoping to do that during the local rocketry club's launch at the end of August. Here are pics of my rockets: Big Bertha "Tara" Big Daddy "Der Grosser Vati" I will try to get more pics and video of their maiden flights.

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***
A few weeks back I acquired a looks-like-new ST 3250. It's been run but from what I can tell not a great deal. The engine came with a Bisson Pitts muffler and was on a GP nylon adjustable mount. I don't currently have a home for it but hope that can be changed soon(ish). One thing I'm considering is converting it to gas, mainly to reduce the costs associated with feeding it massive quantities of glow fuel. I've been reading a lot of contradictory info on the process regarding what should be/needs to be done, mostly regarding needle bearings on the con rod. If all it's for is to reduce the oil used then that's something I can do without. Does anyone have current info on what needs to be done or where I can get the parts I need? Many of the sources I've seen listed are no longer valid.

RE: Small Electric Planes
I fly both electric and glow powered models. My preference is glow (LOVE the smell!) although I must admit that the lack of mess from electric power does have its attractions. My club has members that fly everything from small foamies to large gas models. We are fortunate in having a wide open area with a great paved surface to fly from, actually a disused road that the city has allowed us to use as our flying field. We don't have any neighbors close enough to annoy with the noise of glow or gas (still require mufflers though) so don't get any noise complaints. Heck, the area is popular with the weekend ATV/dirt bike/offload vehicle crowd and they make way more noise than we do! The thing is we really don't care what you fly as long as you do so according to the AMA Safety Code and the very few rules the club has (safety line and dead line rules) and, most important of all, have fun while doing so!

RE: 2 Glue questions
Actually a good wood glue such as Titebond II will penetrate and cure as well as or better than epoxy. Use a thin, even layer and clamp or weight the pieces for 24 hours and you'll have a joint that is as strong as you could ask for. You'll rip the wood apart before the joint lets go.

RE: Engine Bearings???
Make sure you run the engine dry of fuel - pull the line off the carb, start it and give it throttle. Follow up with after run oil. Be careful, though, some of them are not kind to o-rings and seals in your carb.

RE: 2 Glue questions
It would be best to shave the gear doubler where the blind nuts are so that you get good contact for gluing. Depending on the glue to take up the extra space isn't he best idea.

RE: Eveyone knows it's Windy !
Here in the Mojave Desert wind is a fact of life. Days without steady, fairly strong winds are rare while days with strong, gusty winds are all too common. And then there are those days when the wind really decides to blow and I end up having to repair blown down fence panels.

ST 3250 muffler bolts? Mount?
I recently acquired a used 3250 that came with a Bisson Pitts style muffler but no bolts to mount it. What size are the muffler bolts and what length should I use? Also, the motor came on a composite mount ( two-piece adjustable type). Is this sufficient for an engine of his size and power? My personal preference would be an aluminum mount with vibration dampers, but if the mount it came with is okay I'll go ahead and use it. I'd rather not find out by having the mount fail in flight!

RE: Saito vibration
The 180 Should be mounted in an aluminum mount using vibration dampers. For some reason it seems to show more vibration than th other large Saito engines.

RE: HOW FAR WILL YOU DRIVE?
The only reason I drove 240 miles round trip is that the guy was giving me a plane I wanted for free. By the time I left his place it had turned into eight airplanes (some completed, some partial builds, one untouched kit), four engines and several rolls of covering. Definitely made the trip worth taking. Of course given where I live and the drive required to get anywhere from here a four hour round trip is pretty much the norm.
