RE: HARVEST RACE MOVED TO MAY 18th
I'll try and get the race results posted tonight. I put in 14 hours yesterday trying to get caught up at work. Alas, Batman is no more. He died a horrible death when a yellow buzzard came down on him from above. The first flying start mid-air we have had since we started racing several years ago. Parts rained down for several minutes!

RE: November RCRC race Cancelled
Thanks for the info guys! I did talk to Randy before the Tuscaloosa race and he offered to help us out. I managed to get fuel from our old supplier (don't ask how) to get us through the rest of the year. Several people were VERY angry about what and how we were cut off and came to our rescue. When we have our fall C40 meeting we will be discussing the fuel issue. Rich's Brew willl be at the top of our list. Shipping may be an issue though.

November RCRC race Cancelled
Due to circumstances, the race date for November is now open to any Alabama club to pick up. NARCA may be able to take over that race but Ernie and I have a heavy work load during that time frame. If Alabaster, Tuscaloosa or B'ham would like that race date, please contact Tim Batt. This has been our season ending race and chili cook off which has been a blast. We will also be looking for a new fuel source for next year. Maybe all of the clubs can go in together and do a group purchase. Tim

RE: CLUB 40 MUFFLERS?
Rick Grim and I discussed what to do about the muffler outlet and decided that a visual inspection works best. If the outlet has been drilled out it will be easily detected due to the surface finish being different. I think that the stock mufflers are bead blasted to give them a satin finish. That would be very hard to duplicate on the inside of the out pipe. My 2 cents.... Tim

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
Gary, no hard feelings here. And yes, I may have gotten my time line messed up with the engine inspection but what I saw was there was not enough room for four airplanes on the inspection tables. We can fix that next year. I also thought that all of the winning engines would be inspected, A-C Main winners. I was surprised when only the A Main engines were torn down. We may need to think about that for next year. The TTown race was great even with all of the warts. Next year it will be even better! Long live Club 40!!!! Tim

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
Greg used his pit area to remove the engine head. His pit area was maybe ten feet from the impound table which was full with three airplanes on it. I'I don't think that Greg was doing anything wrong by removing the engine head in full view of everyone ten feet away from the inspection table. I do agree that all airplanes should have been picked up from the runway and taken to a impound area by the tech inspectors. Next year we can try to do better.

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
I gotta say this, Greg you are a good guy and have helped me a lot. You have always answered my questions about what to do and have guided me as Club 40 racing grew in our area. Thank you! You are a man of honesty and integrity! If you want to keep your prop a secret I have no problem with that but now that this has come up you will have a hard time keeping it a secret. Last year, i posted some of my findings of prop performance mainly so that we could get the new guys up to speed. It worked and if you spend a little time going through the Club 40 posts you can find a wealth of info. The MA 10x^N seems to work best for my engines. Sometimes the APC 9x6 works well too. The best prop is no longer being manufactured so I don't race with it. Greg, one other point about the Tuscaloosa race. I finished second in B Main not because of the speed of my airplane but consistant flying and NOT cutting. I think I was lapped just about every heat race but managed to finish either in first or last place each heat because I did not have any cuts. I let the rest of the field cut away and was there to finish a clean race. I guess I cheated by not having any cuts. How else could a guy finish first in a heat after being lapped? Tim

Ed may still have the heat score sheets which should have that info. I'm pretty sure we broke into the one minute twenty second region. I do remember that the B Main racers were in the the low thirties. Tim

Ok, now that the dust has settled, was Tuscaloosa the largest Club 40 race so far? I know that two years ago at the November RCRC race in Huntsville we had 29 entries and the TTown race had 32 so I think we may have set a new record.

RE: 2012 RCPRO Club 40 National Championship Race
I just signed up for the C40 Nats. Now I hope I can make the date. We have a test out in Yuma that is scheduled for the 23rd of October but we will be doing prep work before that date that may intefere. I'm the technical lead on the project so I have to be there. Rumor is that the test date may change to November. I hope to get a couple other guys from our area to make the trip. I think we can do that after the BIG Tuscaloosa race......if anybody has any airplanes left.......I'm expecting a lot of carnage......typically we have been having about a 25% attrition rate. Midairs are the norm at our races. Lots of very close racing.

Displacement check for the TT Pro 40
Here is a way you can check the displacement of your Thunder Tiger Pro 40 engine. I used a Harbor Freight Digital Caliper to do these measurements. It only cost $14.99 and gets the job done. If yours feels a little gritty when using it, wash it down with some WD-40 and you will see a bunch of black crud come out of it. Work it by extending it and colapsing it several times to work the black crud out. Step 1: Remove the engine head Step 2: Measure the bore (see picture #1) Should be 20.9mm or .823 Less is okay more is not! Step 3: Extend the caliper about one inch and slowly push the piston down with the caliper rod until the caliper rest on the piston liner (See the picture #2). Carefully Reset the ZERO. This is Bottom Dead Center (BDC) Step 4: With the caliper back in place as step 3, rotate the prop until the piston reaches the top of its stroke and starts to go back down (see picture 3). The piston will have stopped pushing the caliper once Top Dead Center (TDC) has been reached. This is your measurement of the stroke. It should be 19mm or .748. Less is okay but more is NOT! This was edited to show a simpler way of doing the measurements. Thanks Jim McGuinn!
