RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
HerrSavage No I haven't hurt the spur gears yet, I was just saying that I just ordered a heap of parts in one hit seeing both you and have to pay heaps for freight. I bulk ordered clutch bells, bearings, suspension parts etc etc. Neal on the engine power, would many have the power in there engines compared to that Nova you built me. If they don't, then that would mean If I don't strip gears then not many should through engine power.

Herr Savage Just do what I did, get onto Ofnawarehouse.com and order $300 worth of spares, I purchased clutch bells, bearings suspension components, gears, shocker kits etc etc. pain in the arse but it's the only way I could keep it going. Or do this, buy a Kyosho Evolva and a Capricorn C801, you won't have any money left but heck, that Capricorn C801 is a nice car. Cheers

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
I'm at the tallest gearing I can purchase, so next is some custom gears. The boys at work can do that for me but at the moment I have no chance of them completing the job as they have 4 chassis on the go for the start of our season.. I think I have fixed the aero ( but we will see), I fitted a large front under tray and the blended the front spoiler of the factory body into the undertray with helmet foam, softened up the front suspension alot as well. I have some 35% fuel but didn't want to use that until I get a better feel for the tuning of this thing. But you can't give me any more hp either can you?. If you can give me more hp, even if it's a bigger motor I can soon make a new chassis to fit it in. Cheers

Wheel Adaptors
Guys Does anyone make a wheel adaptor that would screw onto the normal 17 mm hex style hub found on Ofnas that would allow me to use the quick release style wheels found on Kyosho Evolvas and Mugens. I can can get the quick release style wheels easily and at a good price locally but have to import the 17mm hex wheels and tyres. Any help appreciated. Thanks

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Well a big thanks to the biys at Clockwork engines. Finally too the DM 1 with the clocked Nova big block out for a run today, a few warm up runs just to get the feel of the thing and a lean out the high speed a bit to clean up the sound and then for a few high speed runs. Well this thing is fast, well over 70mph , was following in the car and the toy left the big car while it was on 110kph. Its only a gues but I have been around motor racing for 30 years, i reckon it was around the 75 - 80 mph. Supertib, do you know what rpm this engine is doing, once i leaned it out a bit it screamed. I should add as well, second run and it shredded two tyres, ripped em apart in the middle. So will get some more tires, find a cop with a radar gun and get a reading and some video footage. Thanks Supertib, this thing is awesome, but like you guys stated its short of 100mph by a fair bit, so now for some more gearing, taller tyres and more rpm from the engine Supertib, i need more RPM

Here you go Maybe a solution to clutch bearings, they offer a ceramic ball and a 440 ball. Imagine putting in a couple of the ceramics in the front of the clutch bell. Maybe a good solution. http://www.bocabearings.com/search.aspx?SearchType=StartDimension&radix=metric&Inner=5.0000&Outer=8.0000&InnerOperator=%3d&OuterOperator=%3d&WidthOperator=%3d

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Any of you guys think the geometry of the throttle servo and linkages is bad on the DM 1. I just finished fitting Savox servos and the steering linkages line up perfect, both rose joints are in line and level to each other. But the throttle servo is terrible, the height of the ball link on the throttle/ brake link does line up height wise to the ball link on the servo arm, but when you look at the alignment from side to side, there is a big difference, about 10mm for us metric people. I will have to make a spacer for the servo arm to allow the ball to be in closer to the throttle/brake arm. Just wondering if any of you have found that or is it just me from using the savox servo. Maybe they are a bit wider than other servos.

I would go for a Clockwork Engine, I have one, have not ran it as yet, but the service I recieved from John at Clockwork was fantastic. I buy quite a few things from overseas and I must say Clockwork would have to be at the top of the list for service. Email questions where answered immediately, hepled me out with correct components, competative price and great delivery. Items arrived approx 10 days after i ordered them, i ordered radio gear and spare parts from other companies and its now approx 30 days and still waiting for the other parts.

So what foam are you guys using, do you have a link or part number for it. Also, what batteries are you all using in your starter box and what charger. I started searching the forums but got overwhelmed with it all. Thinking of just using Ni Mh batteries simply for the safety factor and ease of charging. Anyone using Ni Mh. Cheers

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Hi Guys Newbie question Car has arrived and Ofna directions are as clear as mud, with the tires and foam inserts. I have two different widths of faom, so I presume the narrow witdh goes in bewteen the two beads on the rim and the wider piece is on last. do you push the foam into the beads firmly and then trim of the extra before you glue, or do you leave them in the lenghts they come in and just glue together the ends. If i glue them in the lenghts provided they they are rather large in diameter and im looking at them wondering how the heck you push that tire on while trying to keep the foam even. Anyone know of any good links on how to do this. Thanks

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Hi Neal Ye I have already been looking into the aero issues of the dm1. Seen lots of youtube clips of them going over. By the time your engine turns up and the chassis arrives I will be back at work so Ill get the aero boys to have a look, maybe a front under tray, no holes in the screens for cooling and pick up the air for the cooling by bleeding of the front undertray. But its all fun, I have the available real estate for some high speed runs. Are you using the same engine as you got me? Do you have holes in the front and rear windows for your engine cooling, without seeing the chassis, but by looking at the pics, to me it seems the holes will be a parachute at speed, but Ive been wrong before. Cheers

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Hi Ryan I want to hit 101 mph, but most say it can't be done. But then again, man was never going to fly either. Once I get a bit more understanding of the car I will look at diff ratios and gearing and se what I need to do to get more speed, maybe bolt a set of the drag car slicks on it, 33 x 16 should get some top end, may have to push it before it will move lol. But seriously, just build on the speed, will do some setup and see what I can get out of it, then whack in a carbon fibre chassis kit, then muck around with gearing. Going to research the savage 3 speed and see what it's final drive ratio is and see if that could fit in. The guys here tell me there isn't much option in gear ratios so it may even need some gears made, but that's what mates are for.

Live wire I emailed them before I placed an official order and all came back with the same response, back ordered. Maybe they are discontinued. I did purchase a Spec as they had stock, but somehow between the time they said they had stock and the time I placed the order they magically ran out of stock and are now backordered. Sounds like they may never had the stock. Is Ofna a part of Hobao, does anyone know if Ofna sell so much stuff they can't keep up with production. It would be interesting just to know what's going on. 6 and 8 weeks is a long time to wait.

Livewire I love the pic with the leds on. Over here in Australia we young guys who put led lights all over their real car and drive around. We call em ricers as they are all four cylinder jap cars. But looking at your pic, i wonder what it would be like putting a few ( not too many) leds on and doing a run at night. If i had an electric you could chase all the neibourhood cats. Buy parts for these Ofnas is starting to get ridiculous. I need to have some spares as no one carries Ofna in Australia and it looks like I buy a couple of parts from 5 different shops. Wonder why no shop has jumped on the Ofna parts supply

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
On the 1/8 scale to the 1/7 scale, I'm presuming it's exactly the same car except for the longer chassis and the longer shafts. Surely they would have the same tranny, suspension etc. On the weight thing, the tech specs is showing the 1/7 at 6lbs 4oz and the 1/8 spec at 8.3 lbs. I know the 1/7 chassis is milled out and the radio tray is graphite. But stills a bit weird that the 1/7 is lighter. With the gear ratios, can you mix and match any clutch gear to the spur gear.

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Ok, just purchased an engine, Neal and John from Clock Work Racing where very helpfull, so now a Novarossi is getting broken and Im getting a pipe and some plugs of them a s well. Now just to buy the car lol. Im going to get the DM One Pro 1/7th, i know its bigger but I like big, easier to see when your old and half blind. I presume all the parts in the 1/7th scale car are the same as the 1/8th kit. Aslo, i gather from reading that you buy the RTR version instead of the kit, is that still the case. Does the kit come with the clutch bell, clutches and nuts and even engine bolts, or do I have to order a stack of stuff just to get the engine in. Thanks again gents Trevor

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Jspeed Thanks for the info, I won't pretend to know more about model cars or nitro engines than anyone as I don't. But you are not exactly correct in your statement that more rpms mean higher top speed. If you have two engines, 1 engine that can pull 50,000 rpm but has only 1 hp and the other only does 30,000 rpm but has 3 hp. In nearly every situation the 3 hp will be faster. If you use rpm and gear ratio considerations only then more rpm will win everytime. But without the hp the engine cannot propel the weight of the car and will not reach its upper rpm limit. I build real car engines for drag cars. MPH is HP. More hp can pull a bigger gear and a bigger tire, less hp but more rpm and you won't be able to pull the gearing or tire height. You have to hp, rpms as well.

HerrSavage It was fast but I'm of the same opinion, it's electric. Ok, so I will go with the Ofna DM 1/8 th spec as you suggested. I have found a CF kit for it so that can also be on the list. But what engine, hp = speed so could I put in an LRP ZR.30 monster truck engine. 4.19 hp Edit (. Is there such a thing as a three speed tranny, with some more hp it technically should be able to pull another gear)

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA DM-1 THREAD
Hi Guys I have just sold some plane gear and I want to build a car. I looked around the net and forums and it seems to me that the Ofna DM one is the car to buy. I have all the radio gear so am looking for some help on the chassis and engine. So could you experienced Ofna boys give me some advice and maybe web links on where I can buy the stuff from, liker tower hobbies etc. I would like to get a DM one without an engine and get a really good engine and stick it in. Something fast though as I'm addicted to speed. I was thinking of the DM one Pro ARR in 1/7th scale but can only find the RTR. What do you guys suggest or recommend and is it possible for that chassis to top 100 mph. Oh, and just to let you know I'm 50 yrs old and not 16 and just dreaming. So can you guys help me with the build. Thanks Trevor
