ORIGINAL: geeter I use a 4 cell 3000 mah nimh pack for three flights max. and the flights are about 7-8 min each.
Try a 3 cell 3000 mah NiMh pack, that saves you a lot of consumption I use that combo with the 20EI for a few years now and managed to make at least 1.5 to 2 hours running time before I have to charge the pack again. More than enough for me.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
It looks like that I finaly found a good solution to drill the holes in the 2mm pin for the split pin used on the 1/4 scale turnbuckles. I needed some pin's for my Sopwith Pup so I had a look again how to drill the holes in a right way without breaking drills. I noticed in my suppleirs catalog that he has some small industrial mills that are also shaped for drilling so I ordered some and tested them today. I think this is the solution. After 50 holes done the mill/drill still stands and cut like through butter I also made a new holding block for stable milling/drilling. This time from a pvc block. The advantage of this block is that it will be pressed together when placed in my vice. So the pin is always secure and stable. Finaly found the solution for drilling small holes in a 2mm round pin.

RE: Albatros Dva
Congrats with your result Bill. The plane is looking awesome About the servo's: Why don't you use them at 6 volt? Power will increase 20%, that must be more then enough for a model like this. Since I am at 2.4 I fly all my models with a 5-cell receiver pack with a 5.8 volt regulator in between.

RE: BALSA USA 1/3 SOPWITH PUP?????
I used this time the easy way to cover the wire and make look it like covered with wood. I used plastic poster strips in the shape like the example photo. You can slip them over the wire. But when they stay a little open because the wire is thicker than the inner diameter, just heat the strip laying flat on the table careful with a heatgun until the plastic become flexible. And then just close the gap with by pushing a long steel ruler untill the plastic is cooled down. And when finished wrap the strip with cover material The example below is 12mm but you can find them in different sizes.

RE: EIII Restoration
ORIGINAL: abufletcher But as we had experienced the day before, the Saito 56 (with the same tank and same fuel and vent lines) wouldn't hold rpms. It started off well at 9,900 but after a minute or so, it sagged down into the 7,000-8,000 range.
Sounds like you have a valve problem or maybe a leakage somewere that shows up after heating up. Maybe check if they have the right clearance after heating up, otherwise you may check the valves for leaking and check all bolts of the cilinder.

RE: Aviatik DI build
Congratulations Martin [8D] Both with your maiden flight and your award at Rhinebeck. Looking forward to the video when uploaded. About your elevator controls; I also use expo to smooth out the controls on my planes but I don't dial the controls back when too sensitive. I use the max up elevator to hold the tail down when taxiing and during landing to prevent a flip over. It's sometime easy to have max elevator deflection.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
ORIGINAL: TFF You should be able to Alodine them and get the gold color. Nasty stuff though.
You set me thinking.............. [8D]
ORIGINAL: abufletcher That brings up the question: What color were WWI turnbuckles on a NEW aircraft?
I believe that they were shiney brass and steel when just made and fitted at the factory, but they will very quick weather when all day outside in rain etc and get there black/brownish color.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
ORIGINAL: TFF I would bet they are pretty strong still.
Thats correct. When I set the quadrant wires at tension I had to look very carefull that that the tension wasn't to strong. And as Don says: With the safety wire it will hold very good.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
At the moment I am at request busy making a batch aluminum turnbuckles for a 1/4 scale model. They are made from 4mm aluminum bar and tapped with M3 (3mm) thread. Total length arround 30mm. These will be used after the CG to save weight but still have the functionality and the look of a real turnbuckle through the covering if possible. I developed and used these for my own Proctor 1/4 scale Fokker E.III. If there is also interest in this aluminum version, let me know, but remember that these are functional but not that strong as the brass/steel version [;)]

RE: Aviatik DI build
ORIGINAL: Nieuport nut What are people's thoughts about ignition switches?
I am using [link=http://www.sm-modellbau.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=8&cPath=4]THIS[/link] switch from SM-Modellbau, but there are more manufactures. One of the reasons is safety. This switch you can only activate when the receiver is ON. After receiver ON you can activate the switch with a separate switch on your transmitter or program it with your idle trim set at a programmable point. Very easy to use and program, see manual that you can download at their website. With this set-up it is also not possible to start the engine by accident when someone hits the prop at busy shows [;)] I found this switch well worth the money, and using 2 off them in my models.

RE: scale turnbuckles - is there a need?
I think I found a way to drill the small holes for the pins, at least for the 1/3rd scale. I managed to drill almost 350 holes with one drill this time before I ran out of pins [:D] I have now a special hardened drill, but still have to be very careful when drilling. Now go back to the smaller 1/4 pins after I ordered some new drills.......... So if anyone ordering 1/3rd scale turnbuckles I can add the pin and linchpin for the same price. [8D]
