To Pressurize or not to pressurize ...
With my tank positioned with the center of the tank about equal or a little less than in line with the spray bar on the carb....... I do not run pressure. I have a lot more movement on the needle valve for fine tuning. The engine runs fine inverted or not. The only time I use pressure is when I am flying my Sig SE and the tank is too low. I run the line that would be used as a pressure line out the bottom of the cowl as an overflow line. Several of us do this. What did people do when they had no muffler? They could not run pressure and the engine ran just fine. JMHO

Muffler blowing apart on Magnum .61 4-stroke
Thanks Lee. That must be why it works for a while and then falls off. Due to not being able to find the end of the muffler...... I can't do the screw through the muffler trick. Hopefully I will hear from Hobby People today. It's raining here today so I won't be flying anyway. I look forward to the improvement in performance. I am flying a Sig SE with one of the 61's and a scratch built T-tail with the other. The T-tail is much lighter and has unlimited vertical already. The SE could use more power. I am probably going to scratch build a little larger and somewhat modified SE for a Magnum 91. I love the SE and the Magnum 91 is such a sweet engine. If the muffler does not give the 61 enough power I will probably put in a Saito 72 for the current SE. The SE has numerous flights over the last year or so and is still a favorite for me. If you are using a 12x6 prop...... the mas 11x7.5 should be a fairly good prop? Should I go with something different? I am running about 9500rpm with the mas 11x7.5 and would like a lot more on the vertical. I don't want to ruin the engine however. Thanks for the reply.

Muffler blowing apart on Magnum .61 4-stroke
The baffle screws into the header side of the muffler and the tip screws onto the baffle. If I took the baffle out it would not have anything to screw on to. Both my Magnums run fantastic with a MasterAirscrew 11x7.5 prop. You may have to give it a little time to break in. Maybe you got a bad one? I have found that the muffler is now produced with a one piece unit that has even better performance than the older style. I understand that this is just on the latest production so you could have the old style. If the muffler comes apart or you can see a seam you probably have the older one. I'll let you know if the new mufflers are better performers. I am waiting for a response from Hobby People now to see when/if I get new mufflers.

Muffler blowing apart on Magnum .61 4-stroke
I will be on my fourth muffler if they send me a new one soon. Anyone else had this problem and do you know of a fix? I have used the red locktite and it helped for a while.......... It is hard to find the end of the muffler after it falls off in flight..... I haven't found one yet :)

Here is the third of the series. They were drawn on freezer paper.... then just build the plane by measuring from a datum line and just........... do it! Tex

Finishing
Use Sig Koverall and water based polyurethane. It is easy....... as light as Monocote...... and a lot tougher....... plus you can just mask and paint any trim or multiple colors...... lots of colors..... I like Rustoleum...... stands up to 15% nitro......JMHO

Do you use pressure on your fuel system?
Sorry Gunshipper if you thought my reply was with fear and / or anger. It was not meant to be that way. I was only trying to say that if you have not tried this......... then how can you say it does not work. I am proud that the experts run pressure. If it works best for them...... then thats great. I am only telling the few that think they would like to know........ you don't have to run pressure on your 4-strokes. We have checked performance with a tach..... using same engine and fuel and prop. No better with the pressure line. I like the clean look of the plane without the pressure line running to the muffler. It is very simple to run pressure......... but if it is not needed....... I don't think I will use it. My *seasoned* friend let me in on this well kept secret. You can use it........ or you can rebute it ......... I like all the responses....... its just that when someone tells me that my engines will not run that way......... I guess I just forgot to tell them :)..... cause they are still running happily. Thanks for your reply, and have a Merry Christmas! I really mean it........ no ugly replies coming from this direction. I'm really not mad.... or in fear...... :) edited to add. You will have to change your high speed needle setting. You will realize a much greater range of adjustment..... less finicky with your engine not changing with just one click of the needle. Try it!

Do you use pressure on your fuel system?
Hello Gunshipgunner. Do you ever take your needle valve out and clean it? I was just wondering what you were cleaning off it when you do. If you do not you are the *only* seasoned pilot that I have heard of that does not. This would be a very unusual condition. Chook...... You must always use... Merry Christmas, Tex

What do you use to clean your plane?
I use the $1 a bottle stuff that does not have amonia from Dollar General...... or Dollar Saver. It lasts a long time and I don't mind using it on straight stream to blast clean the cowl and engine area.

Which 4-stroke to purchase?
Hello Chook. Sorry...... I only wish I had experience with that engine...... I'd really like to have one. You may just want to look up the specs and see if it has the power etc.... that you need. If it is a Magnum and a 4 stroke...... I'd say you are ok on the purchase. Let me know what you decide. Merry Christmas, Tex

heat activated glues
Neither of them are actually concidered glue.......... but yes you could say that they are heat activated. When you put heat on the fabric ..... it will melt the polyurethane to the wood. Its best to put the fabric and heat on about 2 hours after the application of poly........ or no less than 24 hours. If you wait longer than 24 hrs. just apply another coat. Tex
