RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
Yeah I saw that. I just didn't know if his thread got high jacked by more advanced builder. Builders that didn't need the thread to build their plane but to modify it. Forgive me if I came off, or am coming of, as whining or complaining. I love reading about all the addon and look forward to reading more I just don't have the knowledge base to build this plane without a bunch of mistakes. I use Papajeff's detailed threads as my "RC Planes for Idiots." This and one other plane are the only two planes I'm really interest in. That is, of course, until Aerosight starts selling the Hawk. I guess the only reason I even started posting on here again is I'm having a really hard time with this pull-pull set up. I've broken several clevises and run through a bunch of wire. I cannot get it tight enough to work well or I break one of those little dudes trying to put one on too tight. Lol I guess I should just ask for help with that part of the build. Lol I guess I should stop b*^ching. I'm just getting so frustrated and a trip to the hobby store is almost a 2 hour round trip. Grrr lol I thought this hobby was supposed to claim me down. Lol Pictures help me out a ton. Thanks.

RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
There are a lot of great modification ideas on this thread. Yet, what happen to Papajeff's build thread? Did he move it or am I in the wrong place? My experience with rc planes is very minimal so I rely on people like y'all to show people like me the ropes. I'm salivating over the ideas y'all have been posting. Wanting to minimize my mistakes I'm slowly building my Raven in hopes that the thread picks up again. I feel I need to finish the initial build before I start on all the great modification y'all have posted. Is there another build thread for the RQ-11 that is as detail as the ones Papajeff does?

RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
Wow, thanks for the heads up! I'm thinking about buying another one and putting it away for a few months. After all the great mod ideas start to become available I'll put most of them on that one. I'm also very imterested in seeing a build thread for putting ailerons on this bad boy. I don't know the first thing on how to do that. Y'all are all great builders. Please keep up the great postings.

RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
papajeff, You had a great idea for making the wings removable on the RQ-1 Predator. You have any plans for breaking down the RQ-11 Raven wings? I drive a 2010 Tundra so transporting my Raven fully assembled isn't a problem. Yet, I like the idea of being able to break it down so I can put both the plane and ground station in the same pelican case.

RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
That is one of the best ideas I have seen. I'd like to see how you got the pod to lower, pan, and tilt. I don't really see the need for cargo tabs on the wing joints but it's still a nice mod. I looked into the idea of vacuum forming a nose cone. I started thinking about how the conical shaped nose would deform the camera picture. I was thinking of having the camera mounted on the bottom of the plane and mod a way to lower landing skids before I touch down. I like the way AeroVironment (www.avinc.com) has their rq-11b stall just before landing. It’s designed to break apart when it hits the ground.

RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
Papajeff, I have been rubbing my hands together patiently waiting to hear what you suggest. I ordered and I'm waiting on a Hacker A30-12L V2 Brushless Outrunner RC Motor, 143g, 500W, 1000 RPM/Volt with the Hacker X-40 SB Pro Brushless Motor Speed Controller ESC 40A to power my Raven. I tried to figure out what I needed to get this baby off the ground. What size propeller are you using? I have tried to crunch the numbers and I believe a 9x6 prop pitchspeed is 27 MPH and would run for around 30 minutes. A 9x7.5 prop pitchspeed would be around 33mph and run for a few minutes less. Are these the best props to use or can I bump it up to a 10x? proppeller? I know we are limited on propeller size due to the black tail boom.

RE: Nitroplanes RQ11 Raven
i have been following your forum for the RQ-1 Predator 63" for a couple of years. I have to say you come up with some really good mods. What exactly did you use for the tubing for the cable guides? I'm more interested in the details on the tubes diameter, wall thickness, and possibly where you bought it?

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Thank you for the responses. PLEASE, keep them coming. I have learned so much from this thread and want to learn more. If anyone knows of a better place to fly in the San Antonio, Tx area than the newly built subdivision near by me, let me know. Again, thank you for the comments and you have any more ideas throw them my way. I'm going to be doing research on the items mentioned above and will get back to the thread with what I have picked later. EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!!

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
I have been looking over items to put into my pred. to make it more beefy. the reason is, I'm wanting to put a video camera, HUD chip w/ GPS, and and a servo kit that moves the camera around. with the added weight I'm going to need a stronger system. Does anyone have any suggestions or do all of you think these items are my best choice? I'm also looking into switching to a 2.4 system. Price is an issue but I do want to get something I can rely on. Any suggestion there too? I wwas thinking about putting on bigger tires so I can put on a bigger prop and maybe get more torque. What do y'all think? I'm still new in the rc plane scene but I'm a quick study. Thank you in advance for all of your responses. RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Thank geebee7676 for the email Thank you papajeff for your response in the tread, I never thought about the idea of steerable nose wheel but decided against it to save weight for something else. There has been a little snag in my plane building schedule. I just passed the Logical Reasoning and Artificial Language Exam for the Border Patrol. If anyone has read this thread enough they are probably familiar with the phrase, OHHHHHHHH............YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I will be keeping up with the thread and I'm still building the Pred. I will just be moving slower than I was originally planned. I know it sounds lame but I daydream about this thing and the implications of it's use around my subdivision and with the local police department. Keep up the great advise and anything that could help me in the future. Anyone have a great idea about a paint scheme? I hear when this this flies it's really hard to see.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
To all with knowledge about the Predator RQ-1B, I address the below to the knowledgeable Papajeff but I would love anyone's input. I'm a 30 y/o Criminal Justice student with a work history in the military (Airborne Infantry) and in law enforcement. I'm a smart, have plenty of patience, and no time limit to build this. I want to put a camera (with both horizontal and vertical movement) with a video transmitter and a Range Video OSD (http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=49&products_id=135) with the regular equipment. With all that said: Papajeff, It is because of your great thread that I bought the Predator as my first plane. I may have overstepped my limits but I wanted to get one before they stop selling them. I want to build it strong, both physically and mechanically, plane that will be able to carry all the required equipment and a few others. What would you put on the plane, now that you have had it for almost two years? I'm speaking mechanically. Would it be a more powerful motor, a stronger receiver, or a better whatever? Please help me with this. I want to do this right the first time through. I'm not looking for the best stuff, I'm looking for the right stuff. No pun intended. I'm coming to this thread with with an open minded and a warm heart. Thank you, Willis
