RE: Eflight Pitts 12 15e
I am VERY interested in seeing how this goes. I have a Saito 40 Four-stroke that I would love to put on this plane.

DX7 and AR600 Rx - Flap Programming
I am trying to program flaps for an E-Flite Mini Ultra Stick. I have installed the servos, 2 per side, and am wondering what the best way to program is. I am thinking using the outer servos (ailerons) on a Y-harness (limited to number of channels), and then have the both inner servos on their own channel and mixing them. Can someone give me hand? Thanks!

Fuel Clunk Line too rigid?
How do you keep the fuel clunk line from getting rigid? Does it just need to be replaced every once in a while? I assume this is an effect of it being in gas? Thanks!

RE: H9 Sundowner 36
Mine has the OS50SX with the Jett Pipe. About a month ago I had a buddy help me withe some radar gun runs. I was flying flat and level downwind with about a 5-6mph breeze. Fastest speed was 129mph after several runs and then engine had leaned out in the air a bit. I can put it in a full throttle shallow dive and then do a full-pull bank and yank and nothing has failed yet. I really don't think that you are going to need to add any strength to the wing. I feel that it is a strong design. I just think that my buddy's wing wasn't glued together as well as it should have been. Having said that, we are overpowering these planes, and failures are part of the game.

Shalom, Moshiko! Your plane is set up almost exactly like mine! Awesome. I am going to try the 9x9 prop. Do have any idea how fast it was going? Best Regards.

RE: Seagull Yak?
I have had this one about a month. Put a DLE-30 gasser in it with Hitec 645s all around. Weighed around 10.5. Maidened it last Friday, four flights, and WOW! Flew great! Engine was running a little fast, but I assume that was becuase of it beng new. Rolls were very clean and quick. Landing was a breeze. Then, depression set in. Took it out yesterday for another day. Coudln't get the engine to run right. I had installed a Smart-fly kill switch. Engine cranked right up, but wouldn't idle very well. Deadsticked after about a minute, landed no problems. Fiddled with the engine and thought I had it. Deadsticked on second flight about 1.5 mins into it. Had plenty of Alt and Airspeed, but with a stiff 10mph headwind I wasn't trying to get it back on the runway since there was good grass all around. Unfortunately I brought here down pretty fast and the LG got ripped off in a pothole I couldn't see. The plate the LG is fixed to is glued to the secondary and primary firewalls, so they let go and casued a lot of damage. Not too upset because it was just bad luck going into the hole. SHe probably would have been fine on smooth grass. I ordered a new fuse from my LHS within five minutes of recovering the pieces. I am a little concerned about the engine not seeming to run right with the Smart-fly switch. I should have removed it and used the manual switch instead. This was my first gasser (10+ years experience with glow) and I was really having a ball flying her. Oh well. A new fuselage costs $80 on horizon. Shouldn't take too long to repair/rebuild and try again. For the price of the kit, it's worth it.

RE: ARF Bashed GP 15-25 Combat Mustang
MUST GET JETT MUFFLER!!!! World of difference in RPM. All of our GP warbirds (me and my buddies have them all!) use the Jett pipe. Thunder Tiger .36 is a great engine. I have one in my P47 with a (say it with me) Jett muffler and it will MOVE OUT! I can get really close to 17k rpm with a 8x7 prop. The Spitfire had a .32SX with a (you guessed it) Jett muffler and it was a bit faster than the P47. But its a smaller, lighter aircraft. I think that the P40 and the Spitfire are the fastest of the "new" GP Combats, but the Mustang was really competitive.
ORIGINAL: wpvrtis They said it shouldn't be done. I put my favorite engine with a Jett muffler in the SD36. I've seen where people are putting .90's in the SD50, so I decided to put my O.S. 50SX in the SD36. I put this motor in a Kobra (the little one), which has less wing area, and it flew great (until pilot error). I was able to correctly balance it.
Another OS 50 with a Jett pipe ready to install. A few more hours and she should be ready to rock.

Getting into Gassers?
Greetings, I have been flying off and on for around 5-6 years. I finally flew a buddies gas Cub and I loved it. It was in the 30-40cc size. I am an accomplished RC pilot and I really want something that I will really enjoy flying. I have been looking at the GP 30-40cc size aerobats, but I wanted some opinions on good planes. Please give me your thoughts. THanks

RE: Best Racing Engine for .40 size
Gents, First of all, thanks so much for all of your help. I just got back from a year deployment in Iraq and am ready to start flying again. I have been flying off and on for about twenty years, but I have a lot of holes in my experience. My initial idea is this: A Mini Reno Air Race. With the introduction of 25 size warbirds from Great Planes, I have been interested in using these models as a class for racing. Two of my friends have been messing around at Scobee with the Spitfire, Mustang and P40. We have been having a great time and I was thinking that it would be a great way to get some other flyers involved for a pretty small initial cost.

Best Racing Engine for .40 size
Howdy all. I am looking for a good solid 40 size engine to start racing at my club with. We are trying to get a local racing league in Houston and we are trying to get some equipment standards set. I have heard good things about the Tower Hobbies engines, as well as the Thunder Tigers as well. Please share your thoughts. Thanks!

RE: Sportster 60 power
That much weight that far forward is going to demand that you move the battery way back, at least. The great things about the SS is that it does great aerobatics, and lands like a trainer. If you add a lot of weight, it loses a lot benefit of the design of the plane. I think that you will be very happy with what you have. Try and save as much weight as you can. Even a few ounces in the right places can make a big difference.

.40 sized engine for Hyperion P51?
I have a Hyperion P51 ARF that a buddy gave me to repair after a nose dive. I had a OS 32 in it, but it really needs a bigger engine. I have been looking at .40 sized engines like the Tower Hobbies and Thunder Tiger stuff. I really want an OS 50SX, but they don't make them anymore. I need your recommendations for something lightweight and powerful (a Jett is not an option, too much $). Give me your thoughts.

RE: Does Sig still want to make kits ?
I seem to remember reading on a distributors website (can't remember which one, sorry), that the balsa supplier for SIG sent them a bad batch and it pretty much killed their line for a while. I hope that they get back into it as soon as possible, because they make great stuff. I have at least 4 of their planes in my stable: 3 Kougars, 1 Ultimate Bipe Profile.

RE: Spitfire with an MVVS .45
Too much power? Whaaaaat? I have that exact model spitfire with an OS 35AX and it screams. I can get 133 in a dive, probably 115 level. That engine would require a lot of tail weight, and you might be approaching the airframe max speed, but who knows. Its a great model, me and my buddies have all 5 of them between us.

RE: Sig Kobra(25size) w/32sx
Ditto on the 8x7. Absolutely no comparison in speed for that motor. Several of my buddies and I have been experimenting with 32sx, 35AX, and TT.36, and we have been able to get 135mph in a dive. We are flying the GP Combat Series (P51, P40 and Mustang). If you want even more speed, and you will, buy a Jett muffler for that bad boy and watch it scream.

RE: GP P-47 with Thunder Tiger .36 - Muahahahah!
Mike, I am curious why you would put foam in the belly pan? I have never had any problems in Takeoff/landing with the installed gear. Dubro makes a small tail wheel rig that works perfectly. I have it on my Spitfire and P-47. However, I have used the tail skid and it wasn't an issue at all.

RE: Recovering the GP Combat Series: What to do . . .
Well, I did get it finished, sort of. For my first glassing job, I think it went well. However, when I painted it with glossy automotive paint, the flaws in the glass really stand out, so I am going to repaint it with flat rattle can (Rustoleum is fuel proof, or so I am led to believe). Unfortunately, I have been activated for a year deployment in Iraq, so the paint job will have to wait. Ah, well. I'll post pictures in 13 months!

RE: .15 ENGINE FOR MODELTECH'S ME-109 ARF
I have never used GMS engines, but the 8x7 will give you the best horizontal speed. The 8x7 will definitely run the engine at a higher rpm, but any engine should be able to handle it. I have run 8x7 on my TT .36 without any issues for several dozen flights.
ORIGINAL: BuzzRTC If you have lots of patience, go with the lightweight fibreglass laid up with several coats of the water based Varathane, sand it down, paint it and then top coat again with varathane
Well, I decided to fiberglass it. I am using lightweight cloth with Zpoxy. It was definitily a learning experience. I finally finished the last covering and am in the process of priming and sanding. There are some rough spots, but I think it will look good. I plan on doing an OD Green on top with sky grey on bottom, and then adding Soviet markings (they did have Spits). Using the Zpoxy was pretty easy, but the corners and edges were a challenge. I will post pictures soon.

RE: .15 ENGINE FOR MODELTECH'S ME-109 ARF
For smaller, light planes, the smaller diameter/higher pitch props allow the rpms to stay very high. They won't climb as well, but they will scream in the horizontal. My buddies and I have been racing the GP Combat 25s for the past several months and we have learned a lot about wringing every bit of speed out of smaller engines. We are getting 120+ with OS 32s and 35s with Jett pipes and 8x7 props.

RE: .15 ENGINE FOR MODELTECH'S ME-109 ARF
I flew this several times this weekend (buddy's plane). He had a Magnum .28 with a 9x6 prop. It wasn't very well-powered. I convinced him to run an 8x7 and it made a huge difference. MUCH more power on takeoff and lots more speed. As large as the wingspan is, I wouldn't hesitate to put a 32-36 size engine in it. It is very solidly built and turns like a pylon racer. I am planning on getting one soon to add to my Mini-warbird collection.
