RE: My NB Jeep Rubicon Crawler
good to see the project is still alive! Mines been shelved due to my RS10-XT showing up. So much fun! I'm just waiting on some new electronics to come my way, so I can do like yours with hobby esc and such. But it will Probably be awhile. I'll keep checking up on ya and live new-bright vicariously!

RE: Not So New Bright Rock Crawler (red rubi-con)
So, I've got a few other vehicles running on 9.6vbut in 2 wheel drive with bigger motors. new bright and radio shack stuff. I wonder if any of the electronics could run the 2 smaller motors wired in parralel, or even in series, to do the 4 wheel drive. I just gotta decide what vehicle to sacrifice to test this, given the risk of frying the electrics. I don't have anything with proportional steering though.

RE: My NB Jeep Rubicon Crawler
thats max efficiency. The max amp draw at motor "stall" is way higher, but I dout they will list that number Just for example, i just did some quick and UNRELIABLE research a moment ago. a certain "lathe 55t" crawler motor ran at no load at .66A, torque tested at 4.9oz/in@10A , and at stall was drawing 90A. I have no idea how that relates to our motors, I just found it very interesting.

RE: My NB Jeep Rubicon Crawler
from my understanding, the hobby grade stuff is able to crank out more amps when called for, so they should have no problem wired to 2 of your stock motors. Even your upgrade motors should work, in both parallel and series wiring. I've heard of guys running 2 motors on the axial, both mounted INSIDE the chassis with drive shafts to get a "DIG". As with anything, monitor the esc for overheating afterwards just to be sure. but it shouldn't be a problem till you start getting into high draw, 540 size, etc, motors.

RE: My NB Jeep Rubicon Crawler
The transmitter I bought off of "Mud Puppy" seems to do that if I turn it on. But my original transmitter works fine, so I never bothered to troubleshoot it. Mind you, the truck stopped after I turned the Tx off. After I cleaned up my wiring, and took out the crimped connectors in favour of direct solder, my Glitching completely went away. That would be a place to start looking. I haven't had the same issues as you with my newbright axles. I was planning on building my "hobby grade" elecs and chassis around the stock NB moa's, so I could still call it a toy grade abomination. I wonder how the axles like water? I want to use waterproof box for my battery and elecs in my chassis build.

RE: My NB Jeep Rubicon Crawler
My RS10-xt should get here next friday. I researched the weak points, and I also ordered 2 high torque metel gear servos, and metal gear sets for the diffs from the same company. And the XT version has allready ironed out the kinks the original had, after following what most ppl modded on them anyway. I'll swap the tires with the proline chisels I put on my NB. I think it should be a good platform now to start. My imagination is running wild with modds, and I haven't even touched one yet. Thanks for the pics guys. it helps give me an Idea what it might look like with the dropped jeep body. K spike, you can have your thread back now!

Nice work bud. You got alot of work into that chassis. It looks like I'm crossing over.........and going HG. I'm gonna get an RS10-xt. HOWEVER, As I upgrade the RS, all it's stock parts will trickle into Red Rubicon, and I too will try building a FULL custom chassis. I've just gone as far as I can go with these stock elec. boards. I should have gone 4th gear like you guys.

I've got a few around. bodies mostly. I've got plans (more like hopes and dreams) for most of the axles and such. Not sure which ones I'm going to use for builds yet, but I'll give it some thought. I am however looking for a Humvee body in 1/10. Thats the H1. Not the H2, and I allready have the newbright 1/10 H3. bodies right now; 1/10 almost dodge ram with spoiler and broken roof. 13" Click to see fullsize image. 1/12 or 1/15 dodge ram, closed box, 11" 1/15 or less escalade, working, 6volt, 11" 1/12 or 1/15 tyco mutator.
ORIGINAL: Spiike hows it run!?!? you said its not a recommended mod, why?
Runs just like normal. Actually no glitching at all, much to my surprise. However, the CLOD STALL was maybe even a little worse. I don't, however, reccamend the mod, if it's not necessary. You really don't gain anything from it if your stock board still works (mine didn't) I think the boards just don't like the motors I'm using. They are stronger and faster, but in hindsight, that 4th gear mod is probably the better direction to take.

RE: My NB Jeep Rubicon Crawler
copper is pliable and could be forced onto the axles and take on the hex shape. Brass is stronger, but you would probably have to cut the hex shape into it first. I say use copper. But I'm a plumber by trade. Copper is something I know how to work with!

RE: Not So New Bright Rock Crawler (red rubi-con)
Heres the details on the second stock board install. This is not a reccamended mod, I just had 2 boards with a shot axle. I set the second battery, a flat pack 1000mah, inside the chassis just in front of the stock board. slides in perfectly. A couple hits with the glue gun to keep it in place. the tamiya connector can be pulled out through the driver side front fender for charging and connecting to the truck. this battery stays in place and I charge it in the truck I removed the 2nd elec board from it's newbright battery tray. I used the mounting posts from the tray, put them on the top side of the board, then glued these posts to the underside of the hood on the body. I left the connecting wires long enough that I could remove the body and sit it beside the jeep, for ease of working on it. The front motor and the steering servo are connected to the main board in it's stock location. The rear motor is connected to the (front) terminal on the second board under the hood. This also leaves the option for a future 4wheel stear. I could have used the stock tamiya battery terminal on the 2nd board, cuz it's right on top of the battery, but I oppted to use a corded connector for ease of disconnecting/reconnecting. Like I said above, there is a jumper between the battery terminals connecting the 2 boards. both run on BOTH batteries. Note the location of the on/off switch. Easily accessible under the passenger side fender.

RE: Not So New Bright Rock Crawler (red rubi-con)
Just Finished installing the second board. did a quick test run. This monstrosity actually flippin works! haha. This thing is running on 2 seperate recievers. its rediculous. A last ditch effort before stuff'n it with hobby grade (priced that out today too) figured this was a good time to install a second battery too. One per board. BUT, then I ran a jumper from one board to the other, now they share the same power supply. I can run the whole truck on 1 battery or 2. Hopefully I can take it out tomorrow and get some video..........before I blow up another board. hehehe More pics tomorrow. it's 4am. Peace out.

Yeah, thats where I'm at with this too. I pulled the axles out, and I'm planning on building a torsion rig based around the solid drive shaft. I also robbed the servo to put in my newbright jeep. It has 4 gears instead of 3 and stays wherever you point it. This was my visualizing. lol.

Hey texx. I grabbed one of these from the thrift store. No controller though. Seems like it could have been a pretty good rig, except for the shotty suspension setup. I've been robbing parts from this thing, but would love to find a controller and put these sweet electronics to work. Seen any spairs? Click to see fullsize image.
ORIGINAL: Spiike did you solder anything to the board or do any repairs, maybe there is a wire that is touching something on the circuit board, or solder that is touching other solder. the other circuit board you got for free, you said it didn't work, what is wrong with that one? maybe its fixable that you can fix it and use it?
The original board was definitly my fault. Hooked up a losi 280 to it. = lost forward on that axle, in 30secs. Had the board tested, and found three components cooked. Very tricky to unsolder and resolder those parts, due to size. The second board came from a used jeep I bought with a busted body. it was an older model and used different connectors on the motor wires, but it worked just fine.
cobra69 Double check your wiring,...Sounds like there my be a short somewhere ,that is causing the FETS to burn out
I never took the cover off the second board before this issue came up. I connected the wires to the existing leads on my Motors (tyco) with crimp connectors. This worked, except for the bit of feedback noise. ran it for a week. Maybe there was some arcing in the connectors? I have since cut the connectors out, and soldered the wires from the board directly to the motors, capacitors intact (1 per motor). I had full use, then lost forward (rear axle) it came back intermittantly, and then lost it alltogether. I haven't found any possibilities for shorting on the wires or the board.

It's the circuit board. I tested the motors on other circuits, and tried the stock motors as well. No VISIBLE damage on the board, but that doesn't tell me anything. This thing ran great for a week, aside from the slight run-on, which was fixed when I cleaned up my wiring.

DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Second set of stock electronics fried! Same thing as last time. Lost forward on the rear axle! Still goes in reverse, and the front axle is running fine. WHAT THE HECK AM I DOIN WRONG? These were what I believed to be two 280 sized motors. They came from a Tyco mutator running on 9.6v. One motor for the left side, and one for the right. Just like a tank. I ran these for about a week before this. I'm a disgruntled little bunny. Gonna go play with my maisto and have a pout.

I chopped the mounting posts on mine and shaved some of the plastic on the chassis, and got the body as low as I could without cutting out the floor. I wanted to keep the seats in place. it really only dropped about 3/4 inch. I bought another jeep for spare parts, so I have a spare body, in Really rough shape. I hope to chop it, kinda like yellow crawler, and build an exo-frame around it. See which one like more .......or just change em with my mood.
