For an excellent short kit www.lasershortkits.com Follows the old original Jensen plans with a couple great modifications, better wing spar, bolt down wing, etc.

Hi, a couple of guys who have built the Double Impact short kit I supply, have told me they were going electric. Maybe we should reach out and ask for some feed back. I also short kit the Twin Lizzy which is electric or gas. www.lasershortkits.com

I need some advise on ESC for boat
I bought a Lucky IX tug boat at the WRAM show in New York. I would like to power it with a sealed 12 volt 7 amp battery (the kind you see in field boxes) It needs weight in the hull anyway as it seems top heavy. These sealed batteries weigh about 5lbs. My question is, the boat came with a Chinese ESC and a cheap 4 channel reciever. Will the ESC work with a 12 volt battery or do I need to buy a new ESC for the increased amperage? Will the ESC maintain 4.8 volts to the reciever if I run 12 volts? Seems like a lot of questions, but I'm sure someone out there can help with a part number or system that will work.

I include the 5/32" holes in the ribs when I supply laser short kits. There are still a lot of adjust-o-jigs out there and they are a pleasure to use, especially when you don't have to drill all the ribs with the jig.

RE: Scratch Built Twin
Just a couple notes here, I built my twin in 1997 and it has close to 100 flights. (The one with the Stars and stripes) Never (knock on wood) had a mishap. Epoxy dries out and gets brittle, I try to use the foaming gorila glue as much as I can, it doesn't seem to give out, it's fuel proof and it actually forms nice fillets around the surrounding wood that locks everything in place.

Nice twin! I have built and laser cut a few twins and I prefer tail draggers. At least for me they are easier to handle on the ground. Check out www.lasershortkits.com If you need custom lettering for you plane let me know, I did these in my sign shop.

RE: plans to kit
I have cut custom short kits for people using corel 13. I take a set of plans and scan just the really hard to cut parts like tapered wing ribs and fuse formers. The program has a tracing feature that actually works quite well. I true up the slots to fit the spars nice and snug then convert the outline to a vector. www.lasershortkits.com

Laser cut kits
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a real popular kit to short kit. I cut kits for Flying Models plans now and they advertise a couple of my kits in the plans section of the magazine. Do you think a short kit of the Ringmaster Sportster C/L would be a good choice? I would have to make sure there are not any copyright conflicts.

RE: Magnum 80 build
Vertical webbing can't hurt. Are you going to use hardwood spars? I like to use poplar, the extra weight is not a problem with that much power and the extra strength is a bonus.

RE: Magnum 80 build
I cut the parts by tracing Dick Sarpolus's parts directly from the plans. Yes there are some discrepencies. The spars should be placed and glued and then take a long straight sander and trim the longer ribs to the shorter ones. Don't worry you won't make much difference in the wing cofiguration. The long straight edge sander will even out all the minor misses. Don't forget there are cap strips and sheeting to be applied that will even out all the lumps and bumps after sanding. Imagine what you would be seeing if you scroll sawed all the parts by hand!

RE: Magnum 80 build
You will find the jig to be invaluable when you are constructing the wing. The retract installation, throttle servo and cables will be a breeze when you do the entire wing and dihedral all at the same time.

Bill, as you get further along with the retract installation, make me some drawings of the parts and modifications, I could include them with future kits for the guys who want retracts.
