RE: I need a metal 37mm barrel 1/16
Mike, Possibly contact Juckenberg to see if they'd just sell you a 37mm barrel. http://www.store-juckenburg.de/index.php?id_product=14&controller=product

RE: Painting Infared Apple?
I'm pretty much against painting apples since it's an unfair advantage. You'll never get people to consistantly paint their apples the same way. I'll go as far as to paint the top cover on a Tammy apple and that's it. Don't paint the gills, fins, whatever you wanna call them and also don't want to get any paint on the ring beneath the fins, on a Tammy apple you can see that the area below the fins is still glossy black and reflects the incoming IR into the prism. Some people may tell you that this doesn't affect getting hit but their wrong, they've only done hit confirmation at 10-15' and not beyond. In the early days I completely painted a couple Tammy apples and it took hits up to 30', then it was impenatrable at all angle's. None of this is scientifically proven, just things I've noticed over the years.

RE: South East PA Battlefield/Workshop
Some updated pics. Blower fan for the paint booth is completely installed. Added a dimmer switch to have variable speeds. Just pull the chain to open and close the spring loaded door on the back of the shop to vent. Also a pic from the r/c area. In the foreground is the gum tree just removed for turn 1. You can kinda make out the 2 straight aways that will be coming into the corner from the left and right.

RE: T-34/76 & T-34/85 Showcase
Here's my T-34/85 with bed spring applique making hamburger out of a Tiger and....... a cow. These pics were taken in 2005 when I was fortunate enough to battle with the guys in the San Francisco area at Jacques Littlefield's ranch. Got to tour his entire collection which was absolutely amazing.

RE: South East PA Battlefield/Workshop
Yup, it's getting there. Having a 70ft gum tree taken out today that is in middle of turn 1. Next will be stump grinding, then have a couple loads of dirt brought in to build up banked turns.

RE: Rubber band tracks.
Hobby Engine Abrams comes with rubber tracks and they are complete crap. Mainly due to the connection point on the tracks which are just two rubber studs that go through the opposite end.

RE: Lets talk about Halftracks
Thinking you could use the turret channel for front steering unless your planning on having a PaK with travese/elevation on it. Then you may have to look into using a 6 Ch TX. I'm only going by my experience with Tammy electronics, the newer generation of electronics may have different options or mixes you could use.

RE: Lets talk about Halftracks
I had an old club member do the conversion and I believe he used the front end components from the radio shack xmod r/c cars to rebuild a working front end then install steering rod and micro servo. They've since been discontinued but you can still get all the parts and upgraded aluminum parts on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=radio+shack+xmod&_sacat=0&_odkw=radio+shack+mini&_osacat=0
ORIGINAL: mustclime How about setting your backyard like this.....It would be nice to battle on something with a little hill here and there...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pyvZLNEQQI
That's fantastic! Don't think the rain here on the east coast would be helpful though. Gonna have a couple banked turns, jumps, and woops. Also thinking the track on the outside of the battlefield could be used as a kind of Autobahn during battles. We'll see.

Another route is to grab a 21st century toys 1/18 and use tamiya or academy r/c 1/25 track/sprocket and gearboxes from their panther kit. All depends on the detail your looking for or just a r/c runner. [/quote

RE: South East PA Battlefield/Workshop
ORIGINAL: ausf That set up is beautiful. I just want to throw this out there, I'm not some safety nazi, nor do I want to criticize your shop in anyway, just be careful with what you vent using that fan. Since the motor is in the airstream, it can easily be a source of ignition if you are using volatile material. Acrylics and such are fine, but please be careful with harder stuff. Squirrel cage fans are a good alternative to the ridiculous price of explosion proof motors if you need to vent turps or MEK or something since the motor and airstream are separate. I had a friend back in the day who used acetone to clean stubborn clay stains off his shop floor. The fumes, being heavier than air, drifted along the floor, down the stairs to the water heater pilot and flashed over. He was lucky only to lose his eyebrows and the front of his hair, not his house. That was just fumes from one rag, a fan compresses the air while venting it, especially if it's atomized through an airbrush. Again, I'm not out to assume, alarm or rain on your shop in anyway, I love it.
Ausf, your absolutely correct. I'll mainly be doing airbrush work, so nothing too heavy. Good idea on watching the heavier stuff though.

RE: South East PA Battlefield/Workshop
Some more progress on the r/c area and workshop. Cleared some more ground cover and saplings. Marked stumps for removal, and am getting ready to move the old dead timber on the ground. As for the workshop, got the tv hung, 5 coats of polyacrylic on the workbenches, shelf put in for a charging station, and started installing the 470 cfn fan for the paint booth. The fan has a chain connect to an external metal door that opens when you release the chain, it also turns the fan motor on at the same time. Fan motor will be connected to a fan dimmer switch to have variable speeds. Also moved in some free standing shelves and toys to see how it's all gonna fit. Next will be to finish off the fan install and mount plexiglass as well as putting up some peg board.

RE: AMERICANS IN WARTIME MUSEUM
Yea, been a couple times. It's a great place to see some armor in action. Also they do demo's of infantry actions including a trench and bunker clearing with a flamethrower. They have raffles to ride in various afv's and apc's too, and helicopter rides for $100 a ticket. Also all the armor is out in the open air so you can get some great pics and get close. Ususally very hot and not much shade so bring your sunscreen.

RE: Ambassadors to the hobby.
Yea guys!! Nice motivation on expanding the hobby. One simple thing to do as well is just make a flyer and ask your local hobby shop if you can post it by their mag's or consignment area. I finally have a R/C hobby shop down the road since moving and intend to do it, that way even when your not battling in front of Crusin r/c there is something for people to come across.

RE: Planning a trip to Fort Lee, VA
Was at Aberdeen last summer and I'd say about half to 3/4 of the collection has been moved including all the restored piece's. Still have some stuff to look at but not worth the 5-6 hr trip if your coming from N.C. Danny. Don't know if the tanks that have been moved to Ft. Lee are on display yet.
