ORIGINAL: barchiola so wouldn't it be sacrilege for TOM to associate with someone who profited from the deliberate copying of an American manufacturer's product? The Chinese didn't exactly rely on their own self initiative by designing a clone of another product. there's a lot of contradiction going on here and quite a bit of hypocrisy. FWIW, there's an entire community here of people that are doing things successfully which means there's still plenty of help to go around.
You might save some of those stones and throw them at DA for copying the early 3W engines.... Rick

RE: Three line fuel system
For everyone giving the negatives of why the "T" style 2 line system is bad here are some positives: a) Very simple to plumb and get into the stopper. b) No chance of the engine clunk getting tangled with the fueler clunk. c)When defueling you can watch the fuel line for bubbles to check the integrity of the supply side of the fuel system.
ORIGINAL: cap10b TOM mentioning 3W is not a high RPM motor is correct, Gehard finds out somebody runs a 55 CS at over 7400 better be ducking when he comes around. Good Luck JDS
I have seen this response now several times.. The engine has a 23X8 Xoar Laminate prop.. I have run a Menz S 24X8 on it as well to the tune of 7350 or so on the ground.. The engine has seen a Xoar 24X10 on it as well and it turned it right at 6850 .. Why is it that people jump to the "No 3W is a high RPM engine"... That seems like a very generalized statement to be making by some people that have not run this engine.. Has anyone gone to Pe's prop to HP chart to see how much power the engine is making with this prop combo? It looks to me like the 23X8 @ 7700 versus the 24X8 Menz @ 7350 they are both absorbing the same HP and produce about the same thrust.. Difference is the 23X8 is much much better flying and the throttle response is much crisper as well as running cooler.. Everyone is looking to get something a little different from their combo and for me , I am very pleased with mine.. It just gets me that such generalized statements are made with no facts to back them up.. Rick

RE: DLE 30 dies when upright
Get a friend to hold the plane inverted and suck out the fuel observing the fuel line for bubbles or inconsistant flow. If that checks out then the issue has to be either diaphragm venting or needle settings.. Also check all your ignition wiring to be sure thhere is no wires flopping about that might be giving you intermittant ignition voltage.. Rick

RE: Soldering woes
Just another point of interest.. At full travel you will be inducing uneven elevator travel with the servo mounted as it is. As the servo arm moves through it's arc of motion it will put more travel into one pushrod than the other.. If you lay the servo arm on it's side then it will be on the same axis as the elevator and will retain even travel through it's arc.. Rick

RE: DA50 and Bel-Ray H1R oil?
Far as oil goes... I have an old Echo Line trimmer 21cc from around 1994ish.. It runs WOT wit hthe line fully extended without being in the weeds it is in a slight 4 cycle run that goes clean while cutting.. While running WOT it runs around 300-310*F free running and never checked while workign it.. It has run on everything from Coleman fuel to super unleaded with oils ranging from 32:1 Stihl Ultra all the way through Bel Ray, Lawnboy and even many tanks of SAE 30wt@ 32:1... Still runs flawless and the piston throughthe exhaust port looks new still... As TOM and others have stated.. Buy an oil that you can readily get, mix it in gas that is readily available and go fly.. Repeat as often as possible... Rick

Props to date: Menz S 24X8 7350 rpm Xoar 23X10 Eagle nose 7550rpm Xoar 23X8 laminate 7700rpm I really like the Laminate 23X8 best.. If anyone is looking for a Sierra Gear for the Gee Bee I have one for sale.. I know this is not the right category for selling items but it being a GeeBee specific item and all, if someone needs one i have it.. Here is the comparison side by side to the C-Arf.. PS>> IT appears that this gear has been shortened to fit the C-Arf parameters.. The gear could be lengthend by putting a 1/4" music wire joiner to lengthen the tubes back out.. Because of the alteration and not having any wheels I will let them go cheap compared to what Sierra gets for them.. PM me for more info... Rick
ORIGINAL: Tired Old Man I do get a kick out of those that mention being on a budget. Any hobby is afforded through ''disposable'' income. At least that's the way it should be. To have a hobby budget, or budget specifically in order to afford any hobby, casts a dim light on the comprehension of basic economics. Any hobby is an option, not a requirement. To try and make it a requirement is ludricous. We need to keep this sruff in better perspective. We do this stuff because we want to, not because we have or need to.
Good points..
