RE: Tamiya Tamtech Gear Thread
U have a REALLY nice set up. I particularly like the 5 split spoke wheels. :) Hot Fox u have :) Also, what are the weakest parts that will break first and can use a good alum upgrade? Knuckles? C-Hubs? I know u are all decked in alum, but I like to only replace what is really the weakest.

RE: Tamiya Tamtech Gear Thread
Ok, the bug bit me. I am going to get a Hornet and gonna go 2s lipo/brushless with it. I know to upgrade to oil shocks as step 1. Now what wheels are you guys running? I want a street set. I know those are micro RS4 tires.

RE: Where'd all the hobby shops go?
Victor's Hobbies in Newark, Fremont hobbytown is really cool. they support the local RC club. Many ppl like NorCal hobbies in Union City, but I am never stepping foot in there again because the old guy there accused me of returning a dead charger when I tried to return the brand new one I bought from there like 2 days before. He's a jerk, but he's all nice and super friendly when you whip out the credit card. Oh, many nor cal hobbies emps used to work at Hobbytown fmt.

RE: is it true about the 3 speed?
ORIGINAL: PatrickBW Most important thing, don't overtighten the screws into the case.. If anything, the older case was stronger cuz it had fewer seams, so less chance for flex... Course, you had to take the whole truck apart to adjust the gears... Somewhere on the hpi Europe site you can find HPI's recommended 3-speed settings for the K4.6... Not sure, but 1-2 is like 1.5 IN from flush, and 2-3 like 5 or so.. DO NOT quote me on that though - but it is on the website.. I'll see if I can find it...
Haha, I am quoting you! LOL. yeah, I did the install and noticed that it's impossible to adjust the 2-3 shift point. Manual says you have to pull the trans out the case to do so! Not sure how some guys on this thread adjust 2-3 while inside the case????!!!?? And it sucks that they have no updated their manual to give adjustment suggestions for the K4.6. Either way, I don't think there is a way to adjust 2-3.

RE: got my X from e-bay........
ORIGINAL: notman now i'm walkin funny......
Classic. Luckily mine was not so bad. Sure the plastic in the radio that holds the antenna was broken, but $10 for a new radio case was not bad at all. It was horribly out of tune, but that is not a functional issue, an engine can be retuned.

RE: is it true about the 3 speed?
I am too contemplating the 3spd upgrade. I bought a used gearset (no broken teeth) from a local RC club guy. It's already in a non X case, but I want to swap it into my X SS case. I also read that the X trans case is stronger than the pre X, is this right? Any other tips on adjusting it? I actually don't think my 2spd is shifting into 2nd. I never hear it shift. Anyways, this used one is way out of tune and out of wack. Had to make alot of changes and adjustments. All good though, I am learning about this thing.

RE: Nomadio React 2.4GHz Radio
I added an AA battery holder to my react. It's located here [link=http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2121]AA Battery Holder[/link] . It's a tight fit getting it in, but I now can remove and use rechargeable or off the shelf AAs if I need to. I refuse to pay $27 for 4 AA rechargable batteries with a special connector. Seeing as how the connector is just a push-in wiring type, I pulled the wires out of the connector and pushed the ones from the batt holder. Works great!

RE: X SS worth it?
Yeah, I have dropped mine for 5 ft and done running carthwheels with it and nothing has broken. Everything is still in tact. The X is a beast. SS just has some upgraded components.

RE: New Savage X Problem: HELP!!
LOL, after I got my X SS, I fired it up and had the exact opposite! The clutch shoes engaged and all 4 wheel would NOT stop spinning! Scare the sheet out of me. Well, sound like your problem is in the clutch area, not the spur. I think on the X RTRs, the clutchbell support is a plastic washer, so you should check it to make sure it's not shredded. Also, make sure your clutch is centered and can spin freely on the crankshaft. When I got mine, the bearings were toast and I had to replace them. Finally, look @ your clutch shoes to make sure they are still engaging the clutchbell.

Hmmm, I didn't see the part about the 17mm washers. I will have to put them on then. I use the 17mm stock hexes and the corresponding flange nuts.

You have to buy the sensors separately. The radio kit comes with radio, battery, receiver and usb cable.

RE: Great....now what should I do?
I wonder why HPI just doesn't do away with the X and just package an X SS kit and an X SS RTR? Kinda silly to just drop a 4.6 into an RTR and not offer any of the other upgrades that the X SS has.

wabash are very light. Much lighter than the axial beadlocks. I was going to dye mine black too! It would look pretty cool.

RE: Great....now what should I do?
Yeah, the X SS still comes with upgrades you would want anyways. Steel spur gear, racing clutchbell, disk brakes, alot of that stuff is easy to replace, but why go through the hassle? Get the better one to begin with.

RE: Getting frustrated....
All, Thanks for all your advice and tips. It's running now. I did the OFNA throttle mod and made sure the carb was fully closed on neutral. I had help from the LHS on tuning and he tought me tips on tuning it. He says if I richen the HSN, I have to lean the LSN since the LSN will also slightly become more rich. Same if it leans it, I have to richen the LSN. It runs good, but I'm not sure if it's shifting into 2nd. Should I be able to hear the RPMs drop if it shifts? BTW, the clutch shoes are installed properly, etc.

RE: Getting frustrated....
Thanks guys. I have read both the instruction manual and engine manual front to back multiple times. So factory settings are very rich. Tuning is to optimize it. What about the clutch engaging? It seems to idle very high. With the idle screw flush, should the carb make full contact? Because if I keep my finger on the LSN part, and adjust the idle, i can feel it move. Is that where the carb is supposed to be? I am currently fighting with: 1. clutch engaging @ idle. 2. trying to keep the thing idling. It dies out really quickly.

Getting frustrated....
Ok, so I set the screws to stock settings. LSN, Idle and MSN to FLUSH. HSN is set to touch the groove on the brass jacket. When I fire it up, clutch immediately engages and wheels spin like crazy. When I put in the alum clutch shoes, the clutchbell spun freely. No irregular engagement. When I start it, i have some fuel coming out of the exhaust tip. I would say 5-7 drops. It's pretty significant. Is this normal or is one of my needles set too rich? UGRRRR, I really wanna get this thing running so I can PLAY!

Which is stronger, billet or cast? Also Integy uses 6061 alloy stock for most of their parts, right? Does anyone make a billet alum diff case out of 7075 grade?

RE: official mini quake thread
I have an idea, what if you mod the MQ upper arms to be like the Vendetta's? Cut out the middle weak plastic section and use a threaded steel rod and thread it into the arms? HMMMM, has me thinking now. Also, I ordered the Atomic steel outdrives and CVDs.

RE: Spektrum/expensice radios??
If you're willing to shell out the bux for a DX3, you should also consider a Nomadio react. It looks funky, but it is packed with features. PC/USB programmable, fail-safe built-in that works with ANY servo, digital or analog, 40 model memory, add-ons like temp sensor that will display on the radio. It's really cool stuff.
