RE: Need engine advice for a big-un
You guys are a little crazy with your power requirements! I flew a Top Flite T-34 (16#'s) with an O.S. .91 with power to spare!!!! The guys who says 14-16 # planes need a 50cc engine, what?!?!? I am a scale flyer so maybe the 3D world is different when it come to power requirements but when it comes to flying normal (like make it fly like an AIRPLANE!) then a Saito 1.80 is PLENTY of power..... From Model Airplane News Top Gun 2007: First in Pro-Am Sport went to Sean Curry and his 1/5 scale, 80-inch-span Top Flite T-34 Mentor. It’s powered by an O.S. .91 2-stroke engine and has Robart retracts. (Photo by Palmer Johnson.)

RE: What can I put on this?
If you are willing to make the jump to electirc, check out the Parkzone P-47 setup and duplicate it. All items woudl be from Horizon Hobby: Power 15 motor, 30amp ESC, 3s 2100 Lipo. Your plane should be in the same size class and they have done all of the setup homework! -Sean

RE: Help building first plane
You could use on of these (or similar) v-tail mixers on your "elevons". I think long ago they also use to sell a mechanical device to do the same thing, see pic below. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHHS3 -Sean

RE: Mythbusters
I'm here to disprove a few busted myths (that's a double negative)! These are TRUEisms: 1. Planes with heavier wing loadings do fly better in the wind. Refer to Master Modeller Dave Platt's laws "big planes fly, small models flit" http://www.daveplattmodels.com/ 2. Given enough power, any airfoil will fly. My UMX Beast flys excellent and the wings are made from 1/16 (or so) flat foam! 3. A shorter left wing will turn left faster. Well, kinda sort of... Look at the MAcchi 200/202/205 Italian WWII fighter series. Designed on purpose with a shorter right wing to compensate for torque! 4. Turning downwind downwind is no different than turning upwind. Ask any dead pilot who got too slow in a downwind turn what they think of that statement... -Sean

RE: I Dont Have IT
Don't get discouraged! It will take some time but if you can fly your simulator you WILL be able to fly a real model but as you learned from your experience it is quite different. Remember to throttle back when flying. Your trainer will fly surprising slow so take advantage of that. GOOD LUCK! -Sean PS - I learned to fly (before simulators( with a glider. Mine was a House of Balsa 2 x 4 but any simple 2 channel glider will work. Can't get much slower than that and you get lots of stick time on each flight!! Mine had a little cox .049 with an ounce of fuel to get it up to a few hundred feet but nowadays probably electric is the way to go... -Sean

RE: Those pesky paypal fees
As both a buyer and a seller I am not a fan of the fees. With that said, when selling I do ask the buyer pays the fees if THEY CHOOSE to pay with paypal. If you don't like the fees (like I don't like the fees) just send a check, money order or pay with ca$h! That's the beauty of commerce, Freedom of Choice! -Sean

RE: Recomendation for a car for my 9yr old son
Go Tamiya! A Grasshopper is great and if you want to spend a few more bucks go for a Frog. These kits build EXACTLY like they did when they were released 30+ years ago which to me was a big part of the excitement when I was a kid (and again at 40yo now!). Nine is a little young (I think) to do all of the research to put the comonents together so maybe look for a package deal which should include: car kit, radio w/1 servo and an ESC (this is the only difference from the mechanical unit found in the original version), 2 batteries (2000mah Ni/CDNiMH), a fast charger, paint for car and that's about it. Good luck and enjoy! PS - I also remember the car being a little financial lesson for me as well as my dad made me save for my own radio while I built the car. I shoveled driveways in Upstate NY so adjust accordingly for sunny AZ!

RE: 50cc-ish reasonable $ twin? ISO engine for 12' Tele
FYI...we have a 12' Telemaster ARF we use as a Candy Bomber at Florida Jets, Monster Planes and Top Gun. We initially had an SV 50cc twin (chinese engine formerly offered by TBM) and the plane was very lethargic whenever we actually got the engine to run. We now have a BME 110 twin in it and it brought the plane to life! I know we went overboard with our new power choice but my point is a 50cc twin is definitely marginal.

RE: What Bird is this?
It appears to be a juvenile Cardinal based in the feathers on it's head and the size of it's eyes in relation to it's body. If you are close to it, look around, surely you will see it's parents and may even hear them giving you a hard time! We have several pairs in our yard here in Lakeland, FL. Watch the pesky squirrels, they like to steal these babies!

RE: RC Pilot blamed for Collision w/ Aircraft
Just an FYI as I am not interested in getting too involved in this debate [:D] but... At Top Gun, FL Jets, Monster Planes and the Warbird event (future event slated for December 8-10) Frank Tiano holds at Lakeland Linder airport we are fully coordinated with the FAA on all flying activities. The events are held in a corner of the massive airport (10,000+ foot main runway which we are no where near). The crosswind runway which we are closest too, but not over, is closed with a NOTAM. There is a paid tower man on site at all times who is in communication with the tower at all times. We don't start flying in the morning until he is there and has given us the OK. We stand down when we are asked to do so by the tower immediately and everyone is grounded at the end of the day when the tower person leaves the field. Glad noone was hurt here and hope we all come away with a little more knowledge than we had before the "incident"
