RE: Kevlar pull pull for elevators ?
I'm thinking of doing something similar myself, but with Kevalr pull-pull onto a belcrank in the tail. Stiff rods from the belcrank to the elevator halves. Any thoughts? Of course, I'll have the kevlar in sleeves to avoid snagging. I'm having a hard time finding a belcrank with a dual horn in center though... Want to use the MK-version (incl. ball bearings).

After reading most of the threads, I was excited to get started, that is until I got to yours. Your thread stated that no matter where you located the ''CG'', the plane dives towards the ground while inverted. Are you still having this issue

RE: Hitec mini Hs-5085 mg for elevator
Don't know about the 5085, but I've tried the 5245's on ailerons on a 50-size.. After trying to set the centering to max accuracy using their servo programmer, the servos still would not center properly. Ended up with selling them cheap! Probably OK for throttle. Jon Wold is the only person I know is using Hitech servos for F3A: http://www.aerowold.com/

RE: Kyosho Osmose 70, Sort of build thread (slow..)
Sorry for not updating this thread.. The Osmose has been hanging on the wall since the spring/summer finally arrived. Summer time is competition time, hence not "playing around with 50-size toys"-time :) Maybe I'll take it out for a spin someday.. It is a really nice, little plane! I have flown the Osmose approx 15-20 flights total, and done a few minor things: - Set the rudder deflection down to an absolute minimum in normal flight mode (really helps smoothen the flight!) - Altered the wing incidence (unfortunately not test-flown after this..) I found that however much I altered the CG, the plane still dove drastically inverted. Trying to fix this by altering the wing incidence a bit. I've also bought 200L of Methanol, so fuel will not be an issue the coming year(s)... Really nice to see other Osmoses coming together as well!

Seeing the all new Azyre on Narukes' web site (http://homepage3.nifty.com/naru/azura.htm), I got a bit puzzled when visiting Masahiro's nice F3A-pages (http://f3a.sakura.ne.jp/radiocontroll/event/ex20090802_noguchiya/ex2009080203_noguchiya.html). Any story on this double Aries?

RE: Asano exhausts
In my case, the pop rivets vibrated loose so the inner baffle also came loose. This became visable as the pipe started to leak. When these rivets start to vibrate, they create a much larger hole in the outer carbon lining. I put in slightly larger pop rivets and sealed them off using high-temp silicone, but I could not fix the inner damages to the baffle... My guess is that the holes in the inner baffle flange has been ripped open. It is too bad really, as I really like the sound and looks of these pipes! I've ordered a few Asano pipes and manifolds from Harada (http://www5f.biglobe.ne.jp/~aircraft/index.html). Painfree and fast! For trouble-free shopping from Japan, try RCJapan; https://www.rcjapan.org/Home_.html - Always great service!

RE: XIGRIS name of new ZN Line Plane
ORIGINAL: can773 On the left side of the fuselage you can see if you look very closely the stab and wing centerlines.
Nice pic of the two sisters :) We were 4 F3A-pilots having a really close look at the Xigris the other night, and none of us found the stab-line mentioned. I did however find two centerline marks (one in front and one aft of the wing), so now I have the main centerline. I'll take it from there and measure my way to the back! I'm guessing a few more Xigris-orders were made after our little F3A get-together at Jon Wold's house! They will swirm next summer!!

RE: Designing a new pattern model
Very nice indeed... If You're using SolidWorks2009 with PhotoView360, try using surface properties - metal - Chrome for those silver lines... Should work :) Flow analysis could be hard in SW, but if you master Ansys, they have a nice fluid dynamics-program if I'm not mistaken. Model should be quite easy to import. I liked the colours! Sligthly Fliton-ish, and I've always liked those scemes.
ORIGINAL: can773 Hi Thinn The fuse has no kevlar in it, its glass/herex sandwich I believe. No issue with canopy and chin being from glass only, I think its better since they are very stiff and more robust than a lot of canopy and chins that are made very light. Trailing edges have never been included as part of the ZN kits that I have had, LE should have been included though. On the left

RE: XIGRIS name of new ZN Line Plane
Great news... I collected my Xigris yesturday evening!! And WOW.. What an amazing plane! The fuse weight is unbelivable!! I did not have time to go through the plane in great detail, but did find a few "minor" things. - All fuse is made from Aramid/carbon. Canopy and belly are made of plane glass.. (Sure, nothing to worry about, just a bitt odd?) - Wing leading- and trailing edge were missing. Probably just missed in transit - No instructions what so ever :) - No indications of stab position (bet it all comes together when tail formers are assembled) Excellent quality on wings and stab. Really funny looking rudder.. I'm really looking forward to this build. I'm planning on using the entire winter-season on this, so I'm guessing no build thread. Yet..

RE: XIGRIS name of new ZN Line Plane
Yeiihaaa... My plane has arrived!! (After just 4months from ordering..... RC-Sweden tried as hard as they could to push the delivery time.. -No Xigris for me this season :( But`I`m still happy! I guess that is how it is with new models?). I still haven`t seen it myself, as it was delivered to a fellow F3A pilot now gone for the Nordic championship... But I do have the weights!! Fuse: 665g Wing: 230g Stab: 57g / half :) I got a few messaseges from Kjell Tore (collecting it for me during my vacation) that it was one of the cooles planes ZN had provided... Can`t wait to see it with my own eyes! I`m planning on using an Ys170 (standard, as I still fly on 35MHz), Asano header and an Hattori short pipe (have already blown one Asano shortie...). Also planning to try the new JR DS 8355`s for elevator/rudder. Possibly DS 9411SA for ailerons. Something small, light and digital for throttle management. I`ll check the hardware (or, with the guidence of Mr. Ola Fremming that is..) and see if I'll go for PBG stab tube. Maybe buy some adjusters from Ola if he is in the selling mood ;) Best regards, One happy, impatient X-gris owner!

RE: Auto Darkening glasses? Pro's vs Con's
I do have "auto darkening" glasses, and I'm pretty pleased with them... I also have dark sunglasses with the correct strength for those really sunny days. You don`t get auto darkening glasses to be really dark... The auto darkening glasses will get "tinted" over time - they will not go back to being untinted... But this only happens after a couple of years. My auto darkening glasses are the ones I use every day. Indoors as well as outdoors. The opics are much better in these glasses compared to my sunglasses. This is due to the curvature of the glass (sunglasses tend to have more curvature than normal "everyday" glasses, and it is limited how much strength you can have on curved glass). You could of course get "normal" sunglasses with less curvature, but I like to get rid of sun from the sides as well. the sunglasses are expensive, so an alternative is of course to buy a pair of Zürich sunglasses (the really big, chick-magnet ones....) and place them over your regular glasses. Works quite well. One bad thing having them both, is if you`re wearing the sunglasses and go indoors, you have to take them off to see... And of course, you don`t... I always tend to forget to bring them both!

RE: Glow vs. Electric. Let the discussion begin.
Great discussion! I'm a glow-person myself, but can absolutely see the advantages in electrics.. Many, if not all, points has been listed in prevous posts. (Servo current drain/flight..?). But for me, the sound, smell and smoke is in itself priceless.... Sure my engines have stopped in the middle of a competition once i a while, but that's competition for you... I've seen electric guys land premeturely as well, unknown the cause. There is one issue not yet covered - flight time.. And not minutes per flight, but total "in-air" time once on the field. Until recently, LiPo packs took hours to charge... If one wanted a good 4-5 practice flights, he had to spend a fortune in 4-5 battery packs. (Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm a novice in electrics.. - These are my observations only). With glow, you can fly as many flights you want as long as you have fuel and radio batery. Fuel is of course...free...? Using a NiCd-pack, you can charge these batteries in a blink of an eye. (I threw out my LiPo and Li-Ion reciever packs due to long charging times...). I know however, that there has been great development recently on the battery side, and charging times are probably down. So maybe, just maybe, one day.... My next project is already planned fitted with noisy, smelly, smoky and lovely YS power :)

Sorry for the slight off-topic post here. Here are the weights of my Suxess (using my wifes' small kitchen weight): - Bottom wing (all included) : 577g - Top wing (all included) : 637g - Wing supports : 63g - Belly pan : 144g - Fuse (all inclded) : 3560g - Wing bolts (all 16 of them..) : 20g All up weight : 5001g! (Gotta check that weight...) Compared to my Oxalys, it's a heavy plane.. The total weight there is 4520g (Ys 160 w/Asano short pipe). (I'm using an Ola Fremming modified wing of 964g. The original ZN Wing weighs 763g empty). Ola Fremming knows how to build his planes light! - My Oxalys being bought from him last year and converted to YS Power..

RE: One wing or two
Hello, There are quite a few F3A-biplanes around these days, as the F3A-final programs (F-09 etc) gets more demanding (and bipes are just cool.. ;) ). (Oxai: Adventure, Euphoria, Miss Wind (Sebart), Amethyst, ZN Suxess, CA Scandalous, Harada Meister (http://www5f.biglobe.ne.jp/~aircraft/meister_2008.htm), Kanno Progress (http://www.mercury.sannet.ne.jp/kanno-rc-model/newmoderu.html), Kanno Bambino (http://www.mercury.sannet.ne.jp/kanno-rc-model/banbino90.html) , etc etc...) In my mind, the biplanes has the "edge" only in the final rounds, where there are more knife-edge manouvers (rolling loops etc..). I just have experience with the ZN Suxess, but I would guess some of the characteristics are similar on other bipes. I must admit I'm not "up there" among the finalists (way short actually..), so I'm just playing around with P-09. Tried out the Nordic-N-09 schedule with my Suxess last weekend with mixed luck.. Plenty of straight lines and gentle manouvers. One "problem" is the way biplanes track.. And of cource the wind issues! Compared to my Oxalys, the Suxess needs way more corrective rudder and aileron through looping manouvers. And it really drifts in strong winds! But the rolling is exeptional! Of course, knife edge-manouvers are plane laughs as well! Weight seems to be an issue with bipes, so be aware... I have stil not flown the Suxess in an F3A-competition, but maybe this summer (just moved up to F3A last season). As a little fun"fact", more 110-size F3A-bipes are now emerging... Take the Hirobo Adventure 110 or the Sebart Miss Wind 110.. Great fun! ("And it even fits under you bed....") :)

I just have to join in to thank Ola for his help and guidence... Last weekend (2 days prior to the Israel trip...) he and fellow modeller Lars Semb attended a 2-day F3A-training weekend here i Norway. They spend 2 whole days just helping and guiding fellow modellers! Both practical flying and theory sessions were on the agenda. A huge thanks to a great resourse person and a true diving force in the F3A-community, being national or international! RE: hatch latches
A great, slop-free, no hazzle way is to simply bend a piano wire and lock it between two bolts using the tension in the wire... To my knowledge originally designed in the mid/late 70's by fellow pilot Tore Jemtegaard. It is widely used here in Norway. Although not looking too slick, nor scoring high on "bling-bling" factor, it is bullet proof, easy and light! Picture showing my "old" ZN Synergy, built by Knut Frantzen. (I've got the same belly-lock on my Oxalys and Sux..).

Snap question
I had a perfect evening last night with blue skies and abolutely no winds.. Ideal for trimming my models! I found one rather irritating feature when pulling my Suxess through positive and negative snaps, and hope to get some enlightening answers here. Basically, it snaps WAY faster negative (45deg downline inverted) than positive (from stall turn). Any ideas on why..? Is it simply "just the way it is" with biplanes?? My Oxalys has basically the same snap-speed either way, so I find this a bit puzzeling....
