RE: is it really that good? u can do
No. It's a decent roller/hover trainer. Good entry level. It's not great at 3D.

RE: OS 120 AX Problem ?
Often the Pitts style mufflers do not create enough back-pressure. The usual solution is to plug up to 1/2 of the port area. Completely block one or 1/2 block both.

RE: The real story with CG
None will just 'hang' there, regardless of CG position. You have to fly it all the time making minor corrections.

RE: The real story with CG
A proper CG for 3D puts the plane upright and inverted flying level with no elevator input. Most people think you need tail heavy but you don't, it just gets squirrely. To most it's more tail heavy than they are used to when it's actually neutral.

RE: OS MAX 40FP low speed needle tunning
It's an air bleed so in (clockwise) is richer, and out is leaner. Sounds like you may be on the lean side. Another way to check is at idle with the glow igniter attached it runs, then cuts out when removed it is rich.

RE: How to rejuvenate a long stored OS 1.08 ?
Put it in the oven for an hour at 200 degrees. That sometimes helps. Then put in the ATF or Marvel Mystery oil.

Sounds like you need a new diaphragm and/or plunger. They are regular maintenance item. Any time you get more than a turn from flush, it's time to replace.

RE: When to adjust valves
I usually adjust them after a couple gallons and then just check them after each season when adding oil to the pushrod tubes for winter storage. Normally, they only need that first adjustment and then it's many gallons before another adjustment is necessary.

No sealant or gasket required. The next time it gets re-built, you won't want sealant in there.

RE: 120AX Special High performance mod
The AX 'special' is a high revving engine, not high torque like the regular 120AX. From osengines website, Experience up to 8% more power in the same displacement with the 120AX Special! Crankshaft port timing has been modified to increase power at high rpm. Velocity Stack on the carb adds acceleration at high rpm. A 0.1 mm head gasket increases compression ratio for more power. RE: Mac's scotsman mufflers?
The Scotsman in an unpainted, un-baffled one-piece muffler. They are significantly louder than the regular MACS or stock muffler. The regular macs does increase power over stock. Not as much as a tunable pipe would but a respectable amount over a stock muffler. You are mis-informed if you believe the macs regular mufflers cause a loss of power.

RE: Need a 3D plane for my OS 110 FS
No one makes a great ARF along the lines of a Primo or MoJo. It's worth the effort. There is the Sabre ARF from valuehobby and it flies great but isn't quite as durable as a kit built profile.

RE: Who makes the powerhouse engine these days?
ORIGINAL: Sport_Pilot
ORIGINAL: ThumbSkull At the very top of the list of 4-strokes, the YS70 is leaps ahead of everyone else in that size category. I'd second that Jett has the top spot in two-stroke land.
We mentioned two stroke engines for a reason.  YS does not come close to a Jett for top power and speed.  But for pulling a slower plane straight up

RE: What glow engine would you choose
YS FZ70. It will run any prop from 10x10 to 15x4 well and it's power/weight ratio is excellent. I have experience with quite a few engines and this is my favorite. [image]http://www.smilexpress.net/temp/engines.jpg[/image]

Don't believe HP numbers ANY manufacturer publishes. Even taken verbatim, the HP rating is usually made using a ridiculously high RPM number.

RE: Setting valves
In their location, the pushrods do not get hot until the engine is shut off.

RE: Setting valves
The head is aluminum, the pushrods, etc are steel and cooled in the propwash. The aluminum head expands while the pushrods do not. As engine temp goes up, the gap increases, not much but some. Remember we use silicone exhaust diverters on glow engines and they are good to around 500 degrees, and that's well under any temp that a valve would burn at or even glow hot. As long as you have some actual gap, it will be fine.

RE: Glow motor backplate
Yeah, it serves the purpose of holding the connecting rod on as well as lessening the volume under the piston creating better vacuum for pulling in fresh air/fuel mixture.

RE: YS 70FZ 16-6 Prop?
I have one and the prop that gives me the fastest upline is a 13x6. 15x6 is the largest I'd run on it. I only got 9200 on a 15x6. I use Xoar props and it's going to get less RPM on good props. I think the test you are referring to was by Mike Hoffman using a MAS 15x6. 16x6 is the prop size for the YS115.
