RE: omp katana v2 46 help
ORIGINAL: Murdoc Hey guys! I just finnished the assembly of my new katana v2 46 arf. In the package, I did not find a manual. So I wondered if anyone can help me with the cg location on this model? Also, on the box it says rtf weight is 1850 grams, my ended up on 2156 grams. Will My 46 2stroke be powerfull enough to hover this plane?
Use a Xoar 12x4 on that 46. Should hover with some pullout. Start at 33% of wing cord including the ailerons for CG. Trim for level flight then invert. If it dives, nose heavy, if it climbs it's tail heavy.

Xoar 13x4 or MAS 13x5 for YS63 on any 40 size profile is a good combo.

RE: YS .63 4 stroke with larger props
I was not guessing. And Jerry, properly propped the YS63 and Saito 82 make the same amount of usable power but the Saito should have a bigger prop like you said. Here are the results of a test I did a year ago picking the best prop for each motor. Same fuel, same day. Get the right prop on the motor and then if it won't run right there is another problem. RE: YS .63 4 stroke with larger props
Use a 13x5 MAS-K or 13x4 Xoar. Anything bigger is too much load. The 63 is a revver. this motor should spin those at approx 11K static using 30% fuel. i am presuming that since you posted in this area that it isn't for a speed plane. These are the best for sport/3D.
That is a POS Chinese ARF knockoff of a pattern plane. It's a great way to waste money and get a bad taste for 3D. Do yourself a favor and get an OMP Fusion if you like that style and the Fusion will 3D great as well as pattern.
ORIGINAL: millertym2000 I am new to 3D, I've been flying my 50cc yak, but I still like to stay around 40 ft or higher. I still cant hold a hover for to long with out either climbing or the nose wanting to fall over. Will the 46 pull it straight up out of a hover or do you have to drop the nose to pull out?
The 46 will pull you out of a hover. The 55 will rip you out.

RE: looking at getting a OMP PRO YAK
If you are a 3D beginner, you will want the extra power of a 55AX to get you out of trouble. I've flown both and it really is a noticeable difference.

RE: looking at getting a OMP PRO YAK
The 46AX is a good motor for it with a 12x4 Xoar or 12.25x3.75 APC. The 55AX is a great! motor for it with a 13x4 Xoar or APC sport.

RE: OS 91 for the 47 Edge 540 V3 ARF
It's not too much power. Too much weight. Saito 82's are on sale from Horizon for $229 right now. That or an OS55AX would be top choice.

RE: Good Foamy 3D electric
Thinner wings cut through the wind better. You need weight to overcome winds effects on 3D. Not too many foamies are great in the wind because they are light. [link]http://www.mscomposit.com/airplanes/electric_65/aerobatic.htm[/link] The EPP Tuf stuff is very hard to beat for durability. Very good 3D birds. Can be electrified or glow. RE: Help Me Retrain My 52
Does it have loose hinges? Too much space between the elevator and horizontal stabilizer will cause that symptom with CA hinges.

RE: 80
Ailerons count in the wing cord. I'd use the 8.5" starting point. When you are done, fly it and roll inverted after trimming it. Should maintain attitude inverted.

RE: Edge 540 help
Everyone has their own opinion but I don't use dual rates for 3D. Low rates can get you in trouble when you need high rates to get out. I set all my expo at 20% with as much throw as the airframe will allow. Usually 45 degrees on ailerons each way and 50 degrees each way on the elevator and as much rudder as the elevator will allow.

Sounds like a tooth missing on the elevator servo or a loose control horn on the elevator.

RE: Edge 540 help
How is the lateral balance? There should be NO down thrust and maybe just a little right thrust. You will need a little throttle in the elevator to have air moving over the surfaces so you can control the descent. They don't go perfectly straight down like on the sim, you'll need just a little forward motion. Hovering: Get the expo down below 25% on the tail. Don't try to hold the throttle still. You will find it easier bobbing the throttle a bit. You probably need to lean it back a little more than you think to get it locked in. If the wind is present, lit it drift with the wind at first because it will keep you in a slight harrier if you hold the position. Burn lots of fuel. This stuff takes practice.

I was at said event for 3 days and nights. I did not see one guy drink and fly. It would not be allowed to happen. Way too much assuming going on here. Is it impossible to have fun without beer? Why do you assume someone having fun must be drunk? Really some irresponsible posting in this thread. Are you posting under the influence? Some finished flying for the day and opened beers for sure but none were flying drunk.

RE: Using 6V AAA NiMh Packs ?
If you don't have any binding in the linkage, a 40 size bird will use from 80-120 mAh per 10-12 minute flight. The pack does have to be able to deliver short bursts of higher current and I would not trust "AAA" NiMh especially with Spektrum. Any dip below 4V will risk a lockout. If you want the lightest setup use an 800-1000 mAh LiPo and a 3A regulator. That is what I run in my MoJo and ChYak.

RE: Which Engine for my OMP Edge 540 47
55AX is ballistic on the 40 size profiles. So is a Saito 82. I have both and the 55AX will win the vertical drag race with a 13x4 Xoar. The quickness out of a hover is better with the Saito 82 and a 14x6 Xoar.

RE: Sig ultimate biplane
If you want a plane that will do the circle pattern or be happy 3D'ing then you might want to check out the OMP Fusion. They are VERY good at 3D and actually make pretty excellent pattern planes on low rates.
