RE: homelite ?
If you don't already have the water jacket ,Major Smackdown has them for $25 and for $15 will take down the fins and install it on your cylinder. http://slappy.org/~john/macwater.htm If you do have your own a machine shop is your best bet to get it done right.

RE: walbro carb , which fitting is the vent ?
It's called a resonator ,I think.It uses the spitback form the carb and increases your engines rpm,on an engine with a canister muffler or a long one as I made.It's about an 11 oz container with a rubber groumet in it with a 1" brass tube through it .It's also good to have on in case of a flip, to give you more time to shut the engine down and also stop spray from being sucked into the carb.My 30cc Ryobi /Homelite runs better with it on and is more zippy on the water.I got the idea from Larry(Old Slow and In The Way)

RE: walbro carb , which fitting is the vent ?
Check the inside of your cooling cap for corrosion in the cap and on the engine cylinder.Corrosion can hinder the cooling of the cylinder.Clean the corrosion out if there is any and spray with Corrosion X or any good corrosion inhibitor.Drill out the fittings with a 1/8" drill to get more flow if they haven't already been done.If you can't get the cap off,fill the cap with CLR or any calcium, lime and rust remover and let it sit a few hours and drain and flush with water.Do it over a few times till the water comes out clean.I do that with a cap on my 30cc that is sealed on at the end of the running season and spray Corrosion X inside the cap.If your water pump is mounted lower than the pulse fittings on the engine, you may see oil in the line.Just mount it higher than the fitting and it should fix that.

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics & tips {Agnew Model Propulsion Systems}
That type of outdrive doesn't belong on a thunderboat whether it's a classic r/c or the real thing.As far as he knows it's the real thing,but can it be documented.A lot of guys including myself have built the r/c classic thunderboats and try to keep to scale and that outdrive isn't it for that boat.

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics
specialk1,In post #580 on this page http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7065963/mpage_24/key_/tm.htm you have pics of the formula 409.I see the back of the hatch is cut out to let air out ,but I don't see anywhere where air is coming into the hull.I'll be running a full mod Homelite 25cc full crank engine in it with a tuned pipe, so I need to let air in and out.I found some scoops to put over the area where the two front simulated vents are on top of the hatch or a larger one in the yellow area on the pic of my hatch.I also found aluminum vents on CC Racing's site to let air out.Just wondered if that boat had any places for air to get in that is hard to see in the pic.

I get my plywood and spruce stringers from Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/wppages/finnishbirch.php The half sheets are 24"x48" and the full sheets are 48" x48".I've found they have the best prices.Their eastern location is in Georgia and the shipping shouldn't be too bad for you.

3M Vinyl Tape
Has anyone ever used Scotch 3M professional grade vinyl tape for painting stripes or designs on hulls?It's thin .007" or .177mm and sticks well but doesn't leave a residue.I put a piece on the paint on my hull and left it on for 15 minutes and no sticky stuff left behind.I wanted to tape over the design on my hull and cut the outside edges and leave the tape into the design,then peel off right after painting.The colors on this hull were painted on first ,then a design template(if thats the right word) was put on over the colors and the black main color was then sprayed on and the template was taken off leaving the design. Also has anyone used Duplicolor 500 deg high gloss engine enamel with ceramic as a paint on a hull?I have some and it says it's oil and gas resistant.The clear is also ceramic and gas resistant.It says to scuff up the exhisting paint with a red Scotchbrite pad ,clean it off and paint.Think I'll try it on something other than my boat first and see if it sticks and is gas resistant.

RE: Walbro Carbs - Which One?
A good carb for a stock Homelite would be a WA-167 with a 11.11 venturi.The two Walbro carbs you have are a WT-458 with a 7.94 venturi and a WY-18 with a 10.5 If you have to use one of the two for now use the Wy-18.You may find a good used WA-167 from someone on the forums that has one and isn't going to use it .New ones are available if you can't find one.

Pittman 9234 motors
I'm hopefully getting a NIB Dumas American Beauty with the fiberglass hull,next week and wondered if a pair of these motors might work in this boat and what other electrical parts I need to run a pair of motors.I know I need the drive parts and thought I could buy them somewhere other than Dumas or even make some of them.Might buy the deck fittings kit from them but the drive kit is expensive.Need to know what parts to look for maybe on RCU or ebay.Maybe if I knew what I need I could ask if anyone had them to sell.Completely new at this scale electric.I've been into gas powered boats,but need something slower to enjoy ,instead of being on edge every second running a fast boat.Maybe later I'll build some barges to push around,like the Springers do.

specialk1,I'm going to use some Octura hardware that I have for now.It's an inline setup,but I'm cutting down the bracket and using the strut blade.It will be surface drive with an offset rudder.I'm going to try a couple of aluminum props that I got from Zippkits.A X478 and an X 678.I figured the full crank Homey that's going into it will be able to turn those props.Probably won't have it in the water till spring,working on it at a slow pace.

RE: Building a Crackerbox step by step with lots of pics!
I had a hard tank and later changed to an IV bag setup and had both on the carb side between the engine rail and the side of the boat.I made a tank tray out of plywood and sealed it with 2 part epoxy and attached industrial strength velcro straps to the ply to wrap over the tank or IV bag to hold it in place.I found a place to hook the end of the IV bag that has the hanger hole in it ,to elevate it.

RE: Building a Crackerbox step by step with lots of pics!
Don't try to do the deck in one piece.It's easier to do the front in two pieces and lets you have the center to use some clamps.Then do the side decks,center strip and the rear deck in seperate pieces.Should be patterns for them if you're using Dunlap plans whether the paper plans or the downloaded ones.Use clamps or weight where ever you can.You could have done the sides by positioning the sides on the frame and starting at the third frame from the bow,dribble a little thin CA glue down the frame and apply pressure,till it is set.Doesn't take long.Check to make sure the side is going to cover the frame to the bow and back to the transom.Do this at each frame forward and back till all are tacked on.Then go back and put some CA along the length of the chine 3" at a time and applying pressure.After the sides are tacked on epoxy every area inside the hull where the frames and stringers touch the sheathing.Oxford County Crackerboxes sites building section has lots of pics for doing the frames and sheathing. http://occrackers.multiply.com/photos/album/7/Building Here's a couple of pics when I was building mine.

specialk1,Did you ever find the sheets on the 54" International Hobbies Formula 409 hull.Wanted to find out if not using an outdrive like the Amps ones and wanting a surface drive setup,where would the stuffing tube exit the transom.Tony at WHH sugested 1/2" above the flat on the transom and centered,not offset as a lot of guys do.Whats your idea on this?

RE: All Pro Shipping
Was going to use this site today to ship an r/c plane to a customer and put in the weight and size of the package and came up with a quote .It's the same shipping price I gave the guy whose going to buy it a couple of days ago.I proceeded to fill in the shipping info and was ready to ship when it came up with an additional service charge of $8.00,making the shipping a little more.I went to the UPS site and ran the package and came up over $42.00.I had already quoted the customer the the All Pro price and now I have to eat another $8.00.I went to Fedex site and ran it with my account number and came up cheaper,so I used Fedex.Earlier in the week I called All Pro and asked them if after the quote if there would be any surprises like a hidden fee and they said no.They said they get a higher discount from UPS and thats how they make their money.If you try them go through the shipping process to get what it will really cost.Don't rely on the first quote to let a buyer know what the shipping is.They're cheaper than the UPS site if you don't have a commercial account ,but not cheaper than Fedex with an account.I didn't use them because the guy I talked to lied or missled me.

RE: wet sanding
Now I'm divorced,so don't try this if your happily married.I put plastic on the sides and bottom of my bath tub and turn on the shower to get a light spray and do my wet sanding in the tub.The dust is washed off and the sand paper gets cleaned off as you sand.A little may get onto the shower walls ,but is easily wiped off. I then dry the hull,inside and out and then wipe it down with a soft cloth with isopropyl alcohol on it and it's ready for the next step.

RE: Engine Mount question
Stackeddeck,Don't feel too bad I stripped the screws on my 260 too.I started with a philips head screw driver and couldn't get them loose,so I tried my 18volt drill and stripped a couple of them.I then tried a philips tip and used a small wrench on it and snapped the head off that one.I'll probably have to take it to a machine shop and get them drilled out and rethreaded or get an airplane cylinder,prop hub,and take the recoil started off and turn it into an airplane engine.I wondered why they were so tight.Thought maybe they put something on them at the factury.

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics & tips {Agnew Model Propulsion Systems}
No,there wasn't any outdrive with it .Did it come with one when they were sold?It had never been built.No rails,no wood in the transom.But someone put on some homade hardware before reinforcing the transom.Only thing that was holding it on was the fiberglass.I had to patch alot of holes from that.Now I have to mask off and paint black and white stripes on the transom.Was that a special paint job that International Hobbies did to boats special ordered from them,seeing that it was done with the graphic colors under the main color of black?It also had some hatch hold downs that I've never seen before.They were mounted on a piece of aluminum on the rear of the hatch opening,but there wasn't anything to hook into them when the canopy was on.Was that planing surface on all their mono hulls?

RE: Help me find a manifold for a Homelite
I've bought from John at Major Smackdowm and he's a great guy to deal with.See if he can make you a water cooled manifold like he makes for the Zenoah.The Homelite ones aren't water cooled.On the site it's sold as a package with the header,but I asked him about it a while back and he said he'd sell just a manifold without the header.Would probably only have a difference in the bolt holes.I think he only charges like $5.00 shipping on small items. http://slappy.org/~john/zenoahcncexhaust.htm

RE: AMPS hulls & outboards pics & tips {Agnew Model Propulsion Systems}
Ken,(specialk1) I sent you an email through here ,but didn't know if it went through.I was asking about the deep vee hull in post #580.I bought one cheap that is I believe the same boat except for the paint job.It was never in water and never had engine rails,stuffing tube or wood to reinforce the transom.I put 1/4" in the transom,put in rails and am now touching up the paint .It got nicked up a lot moving it around by the two previous owners.The graphics aren't decals but the accent colors were painted on first then the black ,somehow to form the design.It will be powered by a 25cc full mod Homelite that was made into a full crank by a guy on JRCBD.Plenty of rpm and torque.Not the average full mod Homey.I wanted to know if you know the name of this boat and how to set it up with this engine.I do know it's 12-13" wide and 54" long and has a planing surface on the bottom as shown in the pic with the blue tape.

54 Deep Vee
I've been working slowly on this 54"x12" fiberglass hull I got cheap.It's never had an engine in it and didn't have engine rails when I got it.The first owner made some homade hardware and put it on the transom ,but didn't reinforce the transom with wood, leaving only the fiberglass to hold it.I reinforced it with 1/4" plywood and put in some rails.The hull was scratched and nicked from storing and moving it around and needs some repainting in places.The hull has a planning surface on the bottom starting at a point 14" from the transom and 1 3/8 " wide at the transom.I put the tape on to see the area better.The colors you see on the hull aren't stick on graphics.The hull was painted with the accent colors,then some way was masked off in the design then painted with the black. I'm putting in a full mod ,full crank 25cc Homelite and putting a Marine Specialities Pro clutch on it.It looks like a regular clutch but has metal shoes,not the flat Homelite ones.I ran a big boat before and had a hard time launching it without a clutch,so I figured I'd try this one.Hoping to get it on the water before the water freezes
