RE: HDR photography
You may want to check into the Nikon D200 since it can bracket exposure, white balance, and so on. Although I purchased my D200 new, some good deals can be found on both new and used D200s as a result of the release of the D300 and the D700. Just note that the D200's high ISO noise performance is not as high quality as the newer Nikons.
ORIGINAL: So Cal Nitro Basher Well I have too many to post...
I know how that goes since I just deleted 200GB worth of photos and just purchased a 1TB hard drive. Of course, I haven't updated my website in ages and only put up a sampling on Flickr. Here's a few that were mostly taken in November and December. One particular photo is older than that but I finally got around to looking at it when I was trashing all those other photos.

RE: What's The Most You'll Spend...
Several years ago, I spent $500.00 for a specific Movado (square instead of round) when it came out at a jewelry trade show for a watch that retailed for 2x that or $1,000.00. Most of the watches I saw were marked up between 2x-4x at retail. This also included brands such as Rolex. Most Rolex's I've seen don't keep all that great of time and are more of a status symbol than anything else. Before anyone writes anything, the watches at the trade show also weren't "knock offs" but the real thing since the trade show is where retailers go to purchase the jewelry before they sell them at retail price. The bottom line is when it comes to purchasing another watch, I'm going to hit the trade show again. I've also made a few decent deals at other trade shows as well, including camera equipment and R/Cs. Lately, I've received price quotes on a 2009 Lincoln MKS at manufacturer "employee" cost. [:D]

RE: Photography - Post your best pictures
ORIGINAL: st_dragn_wagen setting the camera on the ground works, but my personal opinion is that its to low for most cars. height of the camera should be dictated by the height of the car. my personal general rule is keep the camera as level to the center point of nearest wheel as possible. i get better results doing that
That appears to be pretty good general rule. [;)] For me, it also depends on the type of car since if the automobile is "dropped", I won't even consider the center point of the wheel if I am trying to show how low the car is to the ground. I also find myself considering the type of fenders, lighting, and so on or basically where I want to try and place focus on since to me some automobiles appear to look better at certain angles because of certain body parts much like certain autos look better with certain color paint. For me the background is also a consideration. For example, in the Corvette photo I took above, I wanted the Corvette to actually help direct focus to the jets in the background in order to give a sense of the area surroundings of the event. The same with the drift car photo with the jets in the background. After all, I have "drift" photos as well, but I wanted to tie everything together. A personal preference. Of course, a fisheye lens should capture the entire car, a wide or semi-wide angle lens will get most everything without having to back up, and a telephoto will usually require some backward movement (I used three different lenses for those drift photos). Then again, I don't even follow the rule of thirds all the time. [:D] If you are coming down for SEMA (11/4/08-11/7/08), let me know since I will be there taking photos. http://www.semashow.com
ORIGINAL: Safety Hawk Thanks TNB. It looks like you have lots of photo ops living in Vegas. I don't think I'd be able to get any work done there.
Here, it would be very easy to spend every day and night taking photos. However, I usually avoid Las Vegas Blvd and Downtown during the weekend unless I am meeting someone who is visiting, attending a convention, or something really catches my attention like the tiger cubs. About a week or two before I took this weekend's photos from the Rio, I was also up on the Paris-Las Vegas Hotel & Casino Eiffel Tower with someone taking photos though I didn't even bother to go through those photos since I already knew I had better photos. The trip itself was just to take someone up there with a camera who had never been. Sometimes, I don't mind playing tour guide when the company is good.

I was also curious about how well the "car" would learn one's speech based on some older recognition programs I used to own. However, the Lincoln representative programed it while I was in the car and it worked quite well. I was surprised since the older "programs" required the reading of certain pages of text into the computer.
