OS FSa 110 valve removal
Hi all, I crashed my little toni,, to low a pass,, touched the wheels! I have a new head and need to get the valves out of the old one. They are different than others that I have removed. The spring keeper and clips will not slide down the valve shaft and the spring seat at the end of the valve will not even move. Does any one have a proceedure for this? TIA Tim

RE: what caused the turbine jet crash??!!!!!
ORIGINAL: Jack Diaz Lenhard: I think you gave us the answer !!!!! A 2000mA NiMH won't be enough juice for four flights. On the conservative side, consider that you use 500mA per flight, and should never go beyond 50% of the battery capacity. You have two safe flights with that battery. Besides, charging NiMH is VERY tricky. Most chargers think that they are full when they are not. Use Li-Po's or 123 or Li-Ion, with a good charger. And redundancy is of utmost importance. Jack
+1 NiMH on digitals is a no go. Well said

I do build and ARF. I do fly my ARF's much more and like they were built in china !! My next build will be a Ziroli B-25. The ARF I am working on now is a Venture Vertigo jet in EDF. Cheers Tim

RE: Biplane Flight Differences
ORIGINAL: JPMacG I find the visual image of my biplanes more difficult to recognize than my monoplanes. The second wing viewed from certain angles presents a confusing image and can cause me to become briefly disoriented. However, with experience you get used to it and learn to pick up on the visual cues. Just avoid the more aggressive aerobatics until you have some stick time with your bipe. No low knife-edge passes or low snap rolls until you have some time on it.
This is my findings as well. I am glad someone else has seen this. Thought I had biplane blindness... I am now over it and can fly the pants off of it but it took about 10 flights. Cheers Tim

RE: Gas RC was a mistake !!!!
ORIGINAL: Jaybird During your fullsize instruction in the C172, you may have noticed the ball in the turn and slip indicator slide over to the inside of the turn direction (slide to the left in a left bank a fair amount and to the right in a right bank not as much) if you left your feet on the floor because the nose of the plane would be yawing away (a.k.a adverse) from the turn dragging the tail to the inside of the turn. The term "step on the ball" during a turn refers to using the rudder pedals to "step" on the side you see the ball sliding towards to control the adverse yaw and so on. Yes, most models don't "require" a lot of rudder to fly coordinated turns, but others (like a Cub) can really benefit from it. Leading the turn with the rudder refers to applying some pressure (not full deflection) on the rudder just before adding in the aileron input. Again, it's very obvious when you are inside the plane and you can feel it "in the seat of your pants" when the nose is swinging away from the turn direction, but it's pretty subtle from 50 to 100 feet away looking up from the ground. The nose yaws away from the turn because the downward moving aileron on the outside of the turn produces more lift and more DRAG than the upward moving aileron on the inside of the turn. That drag way out on the end of the wing holds it back just a bit and the only way to counter it is to use the rudder to yaw the nose back towards the turn. Anyone else want a turn on the soapbox? Jaybird
Very good,, That is how I learned. +1 I have set up planes in the past with more up deflection than down to counter this. But good stick and Rudder is the way to go to learn an airplane. Tim

RE: New 81
ORIGINAL: Doubledog Also, if anyone has a 4 blade 18" Zinger for sale like the gentleman used in post #3178 I'd be much appreciative. Joy & Peace in the coming year, Jamie
Welcome Doubledog, I still have the prop, It has about 5 flights on it. The plane now has 89 flights on it with the rest of them on a Xaor 20x10. The 4 blade looked good but did not perform very well. I thought it was slow . The 20x10 sure woke it up ! What a great flying plane. You are welcome to the prop with a spare blade, for some change or trade. I balanced it with paint,,, what a pain that was.. cheers Tim

RE: Hitec 7955tg servos junk
ORIGINAL: aussiesteve For the people having a good result with the 7955's. I have a question. How are you powering them? What batteries, what chargers are used, what receivers (Brand and frequency) and are you using a powerboard of any type (Eg smartfly etc?) I charge with a Robbe Charger using the BID chip system That question is not intended to start a brand war, it is only asking for facts. Mine used Fromeco Li Ions (6.6v) Futaba 2.4g Receivers and Smartfly EQ10 powerboard with a Smartfly "Turbo Reg" dropping the voltage to 6.0v. for both the 7955's and the 5955's in a couple of differnt airframes.
The first two years on this plane it had two nickle metal batteries (2200mah). One on the radio and one on the ignition. The last two years it has been on two LiFePo4 (2100mah) batteries, one on the radio and one on the ignition. I have a portable charging case that contains 3ea. B6 max chargers that are always charging my radios, igniters, planes and batteries for small electrics. The radio in my Aeroworks Extra 260 100cc is a Jr 9303 FM/PCM 72mHz. I am running a 9 channel PCM receiver in this plane. Never a glitch or problem, and I am not easy on these things ! Cheers Tim

RE: Hitec 7955tg servos junk
ORIGINAL: bob_nj I still don't have something straight in my mind. Are all of the 7955's considered the "G2" version, and the 5955's were considered the "G1" version? Or are there two versions of the 7955 out there? Thanks Bob
There must be. I have 6 7955tg's in my 100cc extra 260 and they have been perfect for the last 4 years. They are still tight and stable. This must be a newer run of the servo that is having all these problems. I watched some youtube vids of them jittering badly. I must have got the last of the good ones. Mine are perfect for now.. Tim

RE: Is there an indestructible jet?
ORIGINAL: DominicM Most amazing flying I've seen was Schui flying an Ultra Bandit at JetPower 2010. Couldn't believe the violent turns the model could take. I was zoomed out and I STILL couldn't keep up with the direction changes. I couldn't keep the camera steady toward the end of the flight because I was laughing so much. Think I heard that it had a specially reinforced wing joiner so it could take the punishment. This one flight was the one moment of inspiration I needed to start flying turbines next year. Can't wait. (one example of hi G turn at 3:23) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAG83ooknDE&list=UUhL7uuTTz_qcgDmeVg-dxiQ
I think that is the most G's I have seen on a model airplane or any plane for that matter. You think it was in the 30, 40 G range? Idono... Impressive flight. I am getting into jets also... What a video !! Cheers Tim

RE: Prop failures
ORIGINAL: jmb52760 And a pic of the Curare, just for fun: The damage to the Curare was amazingly light. There were just nicks in the paint around the engine, and a spot on the wing where the prop blade must have bounced.
Nice planes. Kit built right? I see you had a good spinner gap on the metal one so that was not the problem. I also had about an eighth inch around the good blade so it was not spinner to prop contact. The prop was balanced and was turning 17,750 in the air per the doplar in my phone. Fun Times ! Tim

RE: Prop failures
ORIGINAL: jmb52760 I'm going to give facts here, you can draw your own conclusions. Last week, I was flying my OS .55 AX powered Deception 40 and in a down-line with the engine turning very high rpms, the prop let go. The firewall was ripped from the plane and the cowling was trashed. I brought her back dead-stick and landed with the engine, firewall, and what was left of the cowl hanging from the throttle cable. [/quote Wow, I had the very same landing with my Q500 racer and a APC 9x8. The Magnum .52 was getting 16,500rpm on the ground and this was about the 30th flight on this prop. Well it through a blade on a fast fly by and ripped the firewall from the plane. I landed it just as you did with the engine and pipe hanging from the throttle rod right at my feet. I did repair the plane, put on another APC 9x8 and it now has about 20 more flights. Just thought your landing was interesting as it was just like mine. My APC failure is the second at our field that I have seen. The other was a APC 16x4 on a 3D plane. I have never seen a MA failure in flight yet. Probably will now if they have creases in them now, or have had a bad run. Cheers Tim

RE: So you think your EDF is safer than a turbine
Well I just got some bigger batteries that could probably make a fire. Maybe I should not sleep with these. These are new and have not been charged. I did hook them up to my chargers to check the cells. All 12 of them are 3.85 or 3.86 volts. I guess I will start the break in now. These are going in my new Venture EDF jet,, I hope all goes well!! RE: Is Hobbico Attempting To Monopolize The Hobby Industry?
ORIGINAL: jester_s1 Small brick and mortar businesses are going obsolete in the American economy in all sectors, not just hobby shops. Consumers go for the best perceived value they can get, and that is often from one of the big operations. Most of the LHS's are operating on a '50's business model, and have only survived because there are enough of us who don't want to wait for shipping. For them to stay viable, they'll have to start offering services that modelers want which will bring customers in. If the LHS offers ARF assembly, engine rebuilding and tuning, test flying/plane setup, and repair services that will give them a niche in the market that is immune to the shift to online retailing.
