RE: Frozen Tower 60
If the liner is hard to get out, I would say heat it up more...maybe crank the oven up to 450 or 500. I usually take a wooden stick and go up through the back of the crankcase and push up on the bottom of the sleeve.
ORIGINAL: Sport_Pilot
Pop it in a 350 oven for 10 minutes,
Takes that long to preheat the oven.
I guess I assumed you could be doing other things while the oven pre-heated...I don't tend to sit and watch mine heat up. For me it's just a piece of mind thing. I'd rather spend $15 on new bearings than have something fail later. If you have had success not replacing bearings...cool. I've had success replacing mine. I just got back into the hobby after a 4 year break. Replaced the bearings on my Tower 46 (10 years old'ish) and it runs like a top. I've probably replaced bearings in 4-5 engines over my r/c career (25 years or so) and never had to retire one of those engines due to lack of performance, only from lack of "pilot performance".

RE: Frozen Tower 60
Heck, I bet I can take a 2 stroke with locked up bearings apart in less than 15 minutes. If it takes you longer than that....you are doing it wrong!! Head, muffler, carb, backplate...gone in 60 seconds. Slide out the sleeve, pop the piston off the crankshaft...another 60 seconds. Pop it in a 350 oven for 10 minutes, crankshaft and bearings out in 30 seconds. Nothing to it. If you are having major issues then I'd say you aren't heating it up hot enough.

RE: Bashing Laddie's Arrow
Great looking plane! I am just getting back into the hobby and still appreciate folks that build their own airplanes. I like the way your plane looks now...but was thinking it would look really cool with a v-tail as well. Not sure how well a v-tail would work with the flying wing type design, but it would look neat. I would also consider hanging some missiles under the wing for static display...it looks like it wants to shoot someone down. Great job.

RE: Anyone Flying a 20cc Profile ?
Great looking deal...I just hope they build them straighter than the ones in that picture. The top view of the orange fused version sure looks like it has a bit of banana in it.

RE: Indy 400
Does anybody have a copy of the construction article for this plane that they could scan and email to me? I am just getting back into the hobby, and digging through all my old stuff I found a copy of that plans that I had bought from the AMA several years back, however I can't find a copy of the article. I would appreciate if somebody could send it to me. tmorelock71@gmail.com UPDATE: Scott reached out to me and sent me the article...thanks a bunch! I will upload some pics when I get the plane built.

RE: Official HZ Champ!! & Micro Flyers thread
I'm just getting back into the hobby after having been out for several years. Went to my LHS today to buy some fuel and stuff to try running one of my old engines. Started looking at all the electrics and ended up getting a Champ and a couple of extra battery packs. I had a hoot flying this thing from my driveway all evening. I live in a new subdivision and have a lot of empty lots around me, so no problem with space at all. I really enjoyed practicing landings and getting the "feel" back in my thumbs. Nothing like landing at your feet, picking it up and going again. I could get used to this electric bit. On a side note...had a hard time getting my old .46 engine to run right today. Maybe I'll just switch to all electric now!

RE: LOOKING BACK 30 YEARS IN R/C
I'm just getting back in the hobby after being out of it for several years. I'm really surprised to see that it appears most people don't build planes anymore....when I look in magazines or online for planes almost everything is ARF. That's too bad....I think building a plane is more gratifying than an ARF. I'm also pleased to see how far along electrics have come. Really disappointed to see that RC Modeler magazine is no longer in publication. That was a fantastic magazine, I would keep the old copies and read them over and over again.
