RE: Eflight Blanik 4.2m with turbine?
Hi Pablo: I presume the nose wheel is to prevent rash when flying off asphalt and not to increase the angle of incidence of the wing during takeoff. If that is the case, since I would be flying the Blanik 100% off our grass field, I don't think I would need the nose wheel. Right? Tom

RE: Dx18qq 3 step throttle trim and flight modes.
I did the SPM file mod posted by Honda to enable the 3 position throttle trim. Then like Kevin noted above, I set the Throttle trim in the Trim sub-menu in the System Menu to Common Digital. All the other Trim settings remain in Flight Mode, activated by my Flap Switch. A 3 position Throttle trim is maintained. Now when I do my startup, the Flap(F.Mode) switch can be in any position when I go to Trim up for the start as FM0, FM1, and FM2 all follow, no matter what position the switch is in when I go to Trim up for Start. No chance of an unexpected shutdown if one forgets to move the trim back up after a shutdown on the previous flight with the FM switch in the landing position. The opposite pertains when shutting down. All Switch positions will go to Trim down whenever I pull the Trim down for Shutdown. Basically the same as on my 18MZ....... This is on my DX-18......

RE: Spektrum DX18
Right on Goose......I was using the D trim as you can change the step but not as fine as you can on the analog mode......similar to the left side lever trim option vs the throttle trim on the throttle channel.... Thanks for the tip....... Tom

RE: Spektrum DX18
I discovered that using dual rudders in the airplane type menu and setting up the rudder on R rudder and N/G on the L rudder does not allow me to set up a mix to trim the nose wheel and turn off the servo with gear retraction. So I set up a rudder to aux 3 mix (aux 3 is my nose wheel port on my 1221RX). Then on the port assignment menu, select Aux 3 receiver port, and then scroll to channel input config menu and select whatever switch you use to trim the nose wheel for centering (I use the LTrAbutton)......finally on the mix menu, select the gear switch (A) as the Switch and done. Then when done, don't forget to export to SD card[;)] As Goose notes, best to use the analog trim selection LTrA rather than LTrD I originally posted.....

RE: Spektrum DX18
The 1,2,3 settings described by Gary are variable depending on what the exact neutral postion of the flap is, i.e. mid-flap switch setting on switch D or whatever switch you are using for flaps, as well as the overall geometric setup of the flap servo and horns. On my ARF Bandit, I use 1=+125, 2=0 and 3 or Offset is -35 which gives me about 3/8" up aileron with full flaps. If you want a bit of crow with 1/2 landing or takeoff flaps, activate tick 2 as well as tick 3. I do it to help forestall any tip stalling tendency with 1/2 flaps. You can set flap speed on the flap menu, but I set my flap, aileron, and elevator speeds all together on the mix page. 3.0 seconds seems about right. On the aircraft type menu, I set up dual aileron servos, dual flap servos for the wing, dual elevator servos on the stab, and dual rudders on the fin. On a single fin plane like the the BARF or UB, or when dual rudders are Y'd together like on a Boomer, one rudder becomes the true rudder and the other rudder is mated to it, which I use for N/G steeing. This saves another mix. If you want to turn off the N/G or make it adjustable, just like on the 12X, just do a N/G to N/G mix and use the gear switch as a switch and a knob for trimming the N/G for straight tracking.

RE: Spektrum DX18
Hi Bob: Hope things worked after our phone call yesterday...I will be back from MN about 3 PM and will give you a buzz when I have my radio in hand. Crow went in smoothly on my UB and Arf Bandit after figuring out the L Ail quirk and using default channel assignments. There still is a mate and flaperon function like on the 12X, but it is imbedded differently in the firmware and not named as such.

RE: JR 8911 vs 8711
The UltraBandit that I purchased from Kirk Jensen(kirkj) has been operating for now almost 55 flights with 8911HV on all surfaces and 8711HV on the N/G. It initially was powered by two Lipos directly into a 1222 RX. One small JR dual ouput regulator was used for power to the micro brake and retract servos only, since they are JR 351, not designed for 8.4v hot off charge. I have since swapped out the Lipos for dual 2300 A-123 directly into the 1222 and no noticeable change in performance in the 8911HV's, despite the nominal operating voltage dropping from 7.4 for the Lipos to 6.6 for the A123's. I left the regulator in for the 351's since any stalling of those tiny servos with anything above 5.2v will fry them quickly. No HV micro servos are available.

RE: Has the extreme Heat stopped your flying
Definitely not risking my BVM hangar (UB, F-4, F-100)to thermal shutdown. Even when covered with a white towel, just taxiing in my yard, IR cockpit temps reach 155 F, with outside temp yesterday at 105F in the shade. My Titans, P-200SX and 160sx cough and spit on acceleration from idle as well, so just fly my electric helis in my backyard in the shade. One week of UK soggy misery would suit me fine...[;)] TA

First impression I am impressed...ergonomics fit my hand with the rubber grips on the case and scroll wheel...the neck strap is well balanced.....signicantly lighter than the 12X, similar to a 12FGA.....really like the new solid dual diversiy antenna....fits in my old 10X case with a little foam trimming.....as Goose noted, a few software quirks need tweaking, but overall very easy to program... I like it......

RE: Eneloop Batteries - Charging
ORIGINAL: Jgwright The obvious question that no one has asked is why anyone would use Eneloop cells when A123 cells are so much better. They can be charge at 4 amps or even higher so charge in a few minutes, don't appear to false peak, last a very long time, can be run flat and can be revived, run at a nice even voltage and are a protected metal cased cell and do not spontaneously combust. John
The obvious answer to your obvious question is that I can't seem to get them to fit in my 12X or 12 FGA, no matter how much I mash them.....[:D] TA

RE: Range check with PB SRS and 14MZ
Mark Hinton and Mark(Schroedm) can safely log more flights with their Cougar and A-10. The devil is in the details.......>>> For JR, PB Cockpit increments LOST FRAMES only when ALL receivers lose a bit leading to a FRAME LOSS for a period of 20ms. A value of say, 2, indicates no signal for 40 ms, 3 is 60 ms, etc. Individual frame losses on less than ALL the receivers due to a loss of a bit increments as a FADE. For FUT, LOST FRAMES increment when either no signal appears for more than 25ms OR when the receiver loses a bit. The latter is counted as a FADE on JR. The HOLDS are also calculated differently. JR increments a HOLD after 45 consecutive FRAME LOSSES occur. With a frame rate of say 12ms, this would take about 540 ms, or close to a second with an 18ms frame rate. Futaba increments HOLDS if the RX sends a failsafe output to the servos, OR if no signal is present for 25 ms. Futaba also records FAIL-SAFE when a F/S is sent from the RX OR when no signal is present for more than 100ms. So you can see that the FUT setting on my Cockpit is actually recording FADES as FRAME LOSSES, i.e. loss of at least 1 bit of information/frame, which JR setting records as FADES. When doing range checks and post-flight checks with FUT, it still is important to keep FRAME LOSSES to as low as you can get it and definitly investigate HOLDS very carefully. Definitely, any Fail-Safes are not acceptable for a safe flight.

RE: Range check with PB SRS and 14MZ
Good Evening Mark: PB Cockpit has done FUT flyers a favor with their new imbedded flight recorder. Now FUT flyers (I fly both) can rely on something more convincing than "Futaba is better than JR since it only requires one RX with 2 antennas"[;)]
