RE: where
Hi Kevin: According to James, the cockpit kits should arrive just about the time the F-86 arrives if all goes according to plans..... I also asked him if the factory could put hard points in the wings for the tank pylons during layup.....much easier than jerry-rigging them in later. I always find that if I put a dowel or block in and make it really stable by running it up to the top skin, with the ever present glue shrinkage, I can always see a dimple on the top surface. He will be talking with the factory about this. Like Malcom noted, gotta have tanks on Sabers and Huns. Look naked without them.

RE: KingCat Flaps and Matchbox.
You can either run a reverse servo OR a matchbox.....or if you have enough channels, like on the 12X, you can run flaps on separate channels, and reverse it in the TX, and forget about the matchbox and reversed servo. In my 4 y/o KC/Wren 160, with a 12X and 1221, I run no matchboxes or reverse servo. I also run 8411's all around. Haven't touced them since I installed them...... 500+ flights. Take care setting up the flaps with 8411's. They will draw mucho juice if you stall them. Use an inline ammeter for safety.

RE: Who's using Mobil DTE light oil?
Hi Vin: The DTE Light 5 gallon jug has a NASCAR seal of approval on it. As with Mobil 1, not sure what they use it for. I have been using DTE Light, now in my second season. I run it in my Wren 160's, 54SS, Rhino, P-70, and this season in my Pegasus HPNL, all at 5% dilution. So far no problems. I did pop the can off one of my Wren 160's when I installed the upgraded tail cone. Totally clean combustor. No bearing problems so far in any of my motors, but still low time on them. I will be popping off the 160 cans at the end of the season again. Should have about 30 hrs hours on at least one of them. I do have a P-180, Titan SE, and 160SX, but none is in a flyable bird right now, so no experience with the bigger JC motors yet.

I agree, the AD and the SJ are still some of the best designs ever to be kitted.....I still have my SJ......smokes with a P-120.... Only gripe has been to get easily accesible 120 oz fuel tank capacity in either one. That is where Avonds and the Chinese have done a better job. Tom

RE: What spectrum 2.4 receiver and power combo?
Hi Chad: I also like the 9100 and 1222, not only for the hefty current carrying capacity with the heavy input leads and EC-3 connectors, but also the 4 remotes, rather than having one of the antennas on the RX itself like the 1221. With my F-100, I still have the 1221 RX close to the sidewall of the Presto-covered fuse, as it would be very difficult to re-locate without tearing the guts out and starting over, and it shows 50-75 fades, whereas the other three RX's in the cockpit area show 0-10 fades. The failsafe switch is also a nice feature. On my Kingcat, I have one of your original A123 bats that I re-wired to 18 ga output to a Deans plug and a JR plug for direct charging. Then into a Smart-Fly Regulator via 18 ga wires with (2) JR outputs into the 1221 via (2) ED HD switches. That setup was my first 2.4 in a jet and is now well into it's second season approaching 150 flights with that setup. Once again 8411's all around. Uses about 350 maH/9 minute flight. Re-charge after every flight in about 3-4 minutes at 4A with a CellPro Multi 4.

RE: What spectrum 2.4 receiver and power combo?
In my BVM F-100D, when I converted it to 2.4, I went with dual Electrodynamics 2300 A123 with one JR lead output and one JR lead for direct charging on each battery. Those go into dual ED HD switches, and then into an ED Bat Backer with dual inputs and outputs. That not only isolates both bats including the ground line so I can use my CellPro 10S dual charger and charge both bats simultaneouly without a ground fault error, but since it does have a silicon component in line, it also has the mandatory 0.7v drop so the outputs runs 5.9v, rather than 6.6v.....never any proplems that way with small servos or gyros. The outputs of the Bat Backer go directly into the 1221 dual inputs. Each of the cells uses about 180-210 maH/8 minute gear upgear down flight. I am running 8411's all around and 351's on the gear, brakes, and speed brake valves and a 450 JR gyro..... It idles at 0.8 amps and max draw during servo stall tests runs about 2-3 amps. Andy at ED now rates his JR plugs at 4 amps continuous with no significant voltage drop or heat across the plugs. I use JR leads off my Cellpro 10S for charging at 4 amps and the plugs only get slightly warm during a 20 minute charge. Just a note=====the Hun is covered with Coverite Presto......I found unusable signals from my remote receivers when they were along the sidewalls of the fuse.....many frame losses. I then moved the 3 remotes into the cockpit area and problem solved. I am not sure what all is in the Presto, but 2.4 does not like it. I have used PowerBoxes in the past from Duralite and Emcotec. They are expensive, bulky, and my Emcotec failed, fortunately on the ground during turn-on. I did like their feature of lead isolation with long leads, but with 48-52" leads on my Boomer XL for many flights with no PB, never a glitch since going over to 2.4

RE: WREN 160 Glow plug
Outstanding service again from Ron Ballard. Chatted about new tailcone and recommended glow plug on Tuesday and both were at my door via USPS by noon today. Install of the tailcones took 15 minutes for each of my 2-160's. Included is some green loctite for the screws. There are big differences in ECU voltage settings for different plugs. I just tested a Firepower F vs Rossi 8. To get the same orange-yellow glow from the Rossi took 65 on the ECU voltage setting, while it took only 35 on the Firepower. Still the best thing is what Ron recommends. When installing a new plug, check the glow intensity before tightening it in the boss. In my experience, if not a bright orange to yellow (not white) it will often not light consistently. At 75-80F, 3 1/2 turns of the restrictor using Powermax has been working for me. Incidentally, while I had the tailcone off, I popped off the can(much easier to get off than a JetCat) and took a look at the combustor. I have been using DTE Light since new, now about 35 flights and another 15 bench runs. It is perfectly clean. No way to check bearings, but it is running like a gem, so I have no doubt they are also fine. I use 5% mixture on all my turbines for the past year. No problem with any of the manufacturers turbines, despite many flights on JetCat, AMT, and Artes.

RE: WREN 160 Glow plug
Just helps to keep the screws tight, Harry. It took just a good twist to the screws, which also had been loctite-fixed since new. There is no loctite that retains full strength at the temps experienced around the tailcone. From past experience with other turbines, those screws will loosen over time without loctite, most likely related to repeated heat-cool cycling, as well as some stress produced by the flow of high velocity gases thru the cone. Thanks Jason........We will enjoy seeing that little ankle biter again!! Must be time for a little sister, right??

Paul, I tried them on all my engines and found them unreliable unless you really cranked up the voltage until they were yellow-white, and then they last only 2-3 starts.

RE: 12x program aux 7 knob to r slider
Just chatted with Bob. He is right. Reason I could not get it transfer is that I forgot I had it mated to the ELEV for the dual Elevator setup on most of my birds. Transfers to R slider fine when I temporarily de-mate the ELEV.... As far as the Speed Brake, I use the L slider on my F-100. If I have a plane with no speed brake, but with smoke, I use the L Slider for smoke. I think Bob-O uses the Left Eyebrow rather than the slider.
