RE: Painting over Monokote
Thanks for your reply. I needed to hear from someone that has actually done it. I will go ahead with the job now with a lot of confidence. Regards

RE: covering with fabric where to start?
I covered my 1/4 scale Tiger Moth with Stits lite and it could not have been easier. I used their pinking tape and it produced a wonderful scale finish. I would thorughly reccomend Stits. I used their paint finish (pink filler, silver, then colour). I have had the model for over 12 years and there is not a crack anywhere on the model. It does have some "Hangar Rash" but no cracks. The only problem is the cost of shipping the paint to Australia. Because it is a hazardous material I had to pay a shipping company a lot fo money to get it here. I wish they had a dealer in australia.

Painting over Monokote
I am Building a scratch built 82% Reaction jet. I need to cover the wings with monokote to save a bit of weight. I have glassed the tips because I am no good at covering compound curves. My Question is can I paint over the Monokote where it meets the painted tips. I don't need to paint the whole of the monokote, just a small strip where it meets the glassed tips. I intend to use Two pack Auto paint with a clear coat. I could just paint the tip first and then cover over the join with monokote, but I thought it would be a good idea to "seal" the edges of the Monokote. Any suggestions or pitfalls when painting Monokote. Regards

RE: SHOW YOUR DROP BOX RELEASE MECHANISM
Hi Airbusdrvr, I have a Robbe Charley and I am just finishing my Flyin'King. I started on the 'King before I saw your post. My Charley is very old, about 15 years I think. He has had a few dirt dives but is in reasonable condition. I have converted the arm servos to digital metal gears. I broke a lot of servo gears with the plastic servos. I also have made a cloth parachute bag instead of the plastic box. I use a seperate servo to Pull the ripcord pin. It pulls a rod that sticks out of the back of his neck. I haven't tried it yet but it seems to be reliable. The old Robbe method was very unreliable.. I am building the drop box so it can be removed. My 'King is electric powered. I will let you know how it goes.

RE: two motors with two esc's question
I have just been helping a friend with a large C130 Herc. It has four motors. I have wired it so that the inner motors are run from one battery and the outer motors from another battery. I have extended the wires from the ESC to the motors and kept the battery wires short. The batteries and the esc's are in the fuse.I have "Y" leads from the four esc's to the throttle channel. He has chosen to use a seperate RX battery and disable the BEC by removing the red wire on the last of the "Y" Leads. My question is, why not use the BEC on all of the ESC's via the "Y" leads. if the BEC is limited to 3amps at 5V as it says on the label, then four bec's would give a current capacity of 12 amps, surely enough to power all the servos? Will there be any interaction between the BEC's? Also another question regarding reversing the direction of the motors so that the port motors run in opposite direction to the starboard motors. Is this a good idea, and as pusher props wil be required on one side, will the pusher props be exactly the same thrust at the same rpm as the normal props?

my first ccpm electric heli
I have just got back into Helis after a long while. My Last heli in the 1980's, was a Schluter Champion (with a mechanical Gyro!!). I have a Robo 450 CCPM. I am struggling to set it up. It seems as though it is set up for 3D flying. The throttle stick moves the collective from about -10 degrees to +10 degrees. and the motor is at full throttle when the stick is right down and down to a lower speed in the middle. I guess this is for inverted flight. How can I set it up so that I only get about -1 at low throttle and +5 or 6 at full throttle. I just need to practice hovering again after such a a long layoff. I have a Futaba 7c 2.4 radio. Is there any sites with some simple setup instructions?. any asistance would be very welcome. Thanks

Four Brushless Motors C130, Help!asked by hinm
I have a friend who is building a large C130 and it is to be powered by four Brushless outrunners. I have been asked by him for help in first of all picking the motors and speed controllers, and also help with wireing the motors, Speedcontrolers, and batteries. He is going to use 32 size brushless outrunners motors with appropriate speed controllers and now I need to decide how to wire the things together. There is not enough room in the nacelles to have individual batteries and I also don't really want to do that as it would be very fiddly plugging in all the batteries . My preferred options are to have all the motors running off the one set of batteries ( one battery, four speed controllers and four motors), or have the inner motors on one pack and the outers on the other pack. I first wanted to mount the battteries in the Fuse and the motors and speedcontrollers in the nacells. However I read somewhere that it is a good idea to have the DC wires (Batteries to Speedcontrollers) as short as possible. This will mean that the wires from the speedcontrollers to the motors will have to be about 30 inches long (centre of the fuse to the outer nacells). Can you extend the three wires from the Speedcontroller to the motors that far? Has anyone done this? and does anyone have any other suggestions or comments. Any help will be appreciated. Regards Tom Watson Sydney Australia

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
I know this is off topic (Not Jet related), but I am in the US at the moment. i came over here to fly in the Collings Foundation B17. www.collingsfoundation.org I went to my friends place in Monterey CA and he flew us in his Beech Bonanza to the Concord CA airport where the Collings aircraft were. when i got there the B17 flight was full. As I could not be there the next day, I had to fly in their dual control P51. of course I was very disapointed (Grin). I had the best time of my life. I was allowed to fly it and did two rolls and many tight turns. The pilot flew along the strip at about 300 Knots and then into a vertical roll. It was much better than my Mig29 flight although not as fast. If any of you guys in the US ever get the chance to visit the collings display I fully recommend you do it. One more thing to cross of my "Bucket List"

RE: Mythbusters
G'Day Mate, I was there in May 2002. I went to Radar (the hobby store) and asked them if they knew where I could see some RC flying. The guy gave me the name and number of one of the jet flyers (Alex). I called him and he said to call him from a cab and he would tell the cab driver where to go. It was great, I spent nearly all day there. They had a little tent set up and the guy that ran the club got us all food at lunchtime. I saw my first turbine flight there. That trip has cost me a lot of money (buying Jets) over the years!!!. The runway was huge. Lots of weeds in the cracks and some of the landing lights were broken.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Reactions seem to fly better with a bit of weight. I know my Red and White Supersport Reaction lands much better than the yellow and blue one. It does not float as much. It weighs just over 20 pounds. All of the Composite Reactions are much heavier and all seem to fly OK. I remember Ralph Brooks. I built a crusader a long time ago. I could not fly the pattern but liked the model. I have most of the RCM magazines. I must look it up.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Regarding a more rounded Fuse, I put bigger triangle stock in the fuse and sanded the corners a lot more, deep into the triange stock. I think it will be necessary to glass the fuse after this to keep the strength. Regards

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Hi Alan, I reduced the reaction plans to 82%. I had the ribs laser cut by a bloke here in sydney. I am going to use a Wren 44 gold. I have the motor but have not used it yet, Just started it a few times. It is very powerful, probably as powerful as the first Wren kit 54. The model is up in the roof at the moment because of other projects. It just needs to be covered and the gear installed. I must get on with it. I was inspired to build it by another bloke on RCU (Dave Rigotti rcguy!). He has had a small reaction for some time and says it flies great. I find the big reaction difficult to transport. I think I could get the small one in a normal car. As far as the pusejet model is concerned, I have not thought about it as a turbine model. Might be interesting. I believe this is what prompted Bruce to design the Reaction. Regards

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Keep us all informed of your progress. In my new reaction, i have done away with the top rear hatch. All that is under there is the ECU and the gas valve and if needed i acces them with the wing off. I don't have a fuel valve, Just a servo controlled tap. I have the UAT in the front of the main former. And the pump is there also. You can get away with a long fuel line if it is under opressure, but not under suction. Also i had the tank facing forward, opposite to the plans. Regards
