RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Steve- Forgot to mention one other gotcha. The manual calls for a certain drill bit in order to drill the motor mounts. It was not the right size. Just match the hole in the wood template they give you as far as drill bit is concerned. I got lucky and checked it. If I recall correctly, it would have been too big of a hole. if I used what the manual recommends. Tony

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
The manual recommends at least the 5645 but you may be OK. I dont have enough experience to tell you either way. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Steve- I asked my wife if I could sleep with the plane - conversation didnt go so well - LOL. I lost my office (made into a baby room) when we had our first child so the only place I could build was the guest room! Too hot in the garage. Anyway, the plane really comes with all the hardware. Only thing I had to pick up was some fender washers to get the engine clearance for the cowl. The only minor gotcha is dont drill for the battery to be connected on the outside of the engine box. I did that, secured it, then realized I needed to move it back bc of the CG. I used the JTec muffler and have my switches near the front of the plane for both ignition and RX. Other than that, it was very straight forward. This was actually the second plane I have ever put together and my first gasser at that. Let me know if you have any other q's. I am already looking for my next 50CC bird - hope the bed is big enough! Tony

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Hi elkiwi- I did not use any decals. They do come with them and seem to be close to what their pictures show. I used Hitec 7985 MG Digitals on everything except the throttle. I used a Hitec HS-635 on that. I am using 2 Fromeco 2600 Li-ons - one for ignition and receiver. Obviously running regulators. Here is a few pics of the inside and outside of the plane. I had to put both batteries further back to get it to balance - you will see them under the receiver. This plane builds nose heavy if using a DLE30CC (which I did). I ran about 1.5 gallons with a Xoar 18x8 and just switched to a Xoar 19x8 with carbon spinner. Plane tracks bigger than it is. If you have any more questions, let me know - happy to help. Thanks- Tony

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Hey John- Not sure if you are still interested in how it flies. It flies great - tracks bigger in the air than it is. I have about 7 flights on it with a DLE30. Landing is a piece of cake as it glides in - plus I am running a smaller prop for break-in. I am sure once I go with a bigger prop, it will slow things down even more. If you like Extra's, highly recommend this one. Aeroworks (Mark Dennis) support is fantastic. Any questions, let me know- Tony

Hey John- I am close to putting her in the air. Waiting on my batteries, switches and regulators which will be here Monday. Hope to maiden sometime next week. I will let you know. I have not put it on the scale. It feels plenty light with a DLE30 on it. Cant imagine me wanting it any lighter. We will see how she handles soon. Tony

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Almost ready to put her in the air. Here are a couple of pics. Mark and Kim at Aeroworks have been great. I have been out of the hobby for quite some time and never built a Gas bird before. I used to fly a Hangar 9 33% with a BME100 in it but I bought it used. As you can imagine, I had a lot of questions. I talked to Mark the most and he was always patient and very helpful. I am sure a lot of my questions were basic and probably stupid! I am impressed with the quality of the plane. I am waiting on my spinner, prop, batteries, regulators and switches and then she will be ready to go. Tony

Brian- Thanks. That is what I have been doing. Great looking bird you have. I cant wait to get mine. Did your Edge come with enough clear Monokote to seal the hinges? If so, did you seal both sides? Tony

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Rodney- Thanks. I will keep you posted. I will be looking for someone to build it for me (I live in Tampa, Fl). Go figure - it is a QB ARF and I still want someone to build for me - LOL. FYI - they have free shipping this week as a promotion. Around a $100 savings if you buy the plane and engine. I am curious how good the DLE30 is. The BME 100 I had in the CAP was stellar - no dead sticks and never missed a beat. I see mixed reviews out there - granted the rear carb may be more solid?? Anyway, I might pull the trigger tomorrow. RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Rodney - Thanks for the post. I am just getting back into the hobby after taking years off. Used to fly a H9 33% CAP. Really confusing on what 30cc bird to get. Aeroworks seems like a quality product. I am leaning towards pulling the trigger. Any chance the maiden displayed 3 D maneuvers or was he taking it easy? Also - did it float well on landings? My CAP was like a glider :).

RE: 4.8 Pack Question on mAh readings
It reads 5.2 to 5.3. It does seem like it is holding a charge. I have had it on quite a bit and ran the engine, etc. It is holding at 5 volts. I will continue to monitor to see what it does. Thanks for the help

RE: 4.8 Pack Question on mAh readings
Thanks for the replies. Still not discharging anywhere near capacity. Question - my accu-cycle charge wire only has 2 wires yet the pack has 3 different wires. Could this cause the issue? I am making sure the 2 wires are connecting to the correct ones based on color but the absence of the third makes me wonder??

4.8 Pack Question on mAh readings
Getting back in hobby. Just got a new 4.8 1500 4 cell pack. charged it and got about 5.4V at full charge when reading off a volt meter. However, when i tried cycling it - my Accu-Cycle read 407 mAh at discharge. Is that possible to show 5.4V and then have a reading of 407 on discharge on a 1500 pack? I am wondering if my accu-cycle is malfunctioning.

RE: Heli stuff and fellowship
I put this q in the Heli Beginners forum as well. Thinking about getting back in the hobby. I have a JR8103 PCM 72MHZ radio and a Raptor Heli collecting dust. Been years since I have flown. I used to fly a 33% CAP and the heli on this radio. Back in the day - it was a great radio. Is it still a good radio to get back in the hobby (assuming I change the batteries)? I see all this new modulation/frequency technology. Do people still fly on this radio from a stock perspective or do I really need to upgrade something on the radio or get another radio all together? I can understand if I am flying a $5,000K 40Percent TOC plane or $2,000 Heli but I am just flying smaller Nitro heli's and may get back into 1/3 scale Airplanes. Thanks for any advice or direction to what thread in here I need to read. I am sure this has been asked. Tony

Barracuda Hockey – That would be great. Dad is supposed to be sending my r/c heli, etc. from Dallas soon. I would like to go through set up, etc. with someone knowledgeable. I live in Westchase – there is a flying field off of Linebaugh. Appreciate it -

Raptor 30 from 4 years ago - Question - Getting back in the hobby
I have a raptor 30 from about 4 years ago. Not sure if a V2 or not. Regardless, can I still source parts, etc. for this model or is it absolete? I also have a JR 8103 radio – same question applies. Any comments welcome. Thanks – Tony

8103 Airplane Version
I am new to heli's as well. Flying a TT Raptor 50. I am using my 8103 Airplane version and filed the ratchet on the throttle to have more precise control. Works great - I agree that you need to open the back of the radio up and grind the ratchet piece to get a more precise response.

Daren- I have a 33% H9 CAP with two batteries bundled together on the RX. They have foam on each one and then they are rubber banded together. The ignition battery is obviously seperate. I have had no problems.

PowerBacker
MonkeyBoy- Flew the 33% CAP all day yesterday with the PowerBacker. It worked great! I have two 1600M packs in the bird with one IPD receiver and two JR switches. One is actually 1800 but it is only cycling to 1500 at the moment. I flew over a gallon of fuel and both batteries were still at 6.3Volts! I have 9 servos and 6 are digitals. It did a great job of drawing from both batteries evenly. We checked them after each flight and they drained evenly every flight. I highly recommend this system if you are running one receiver. Have fun with the Carden - I am jealous. My buddy and I want the 40% Carden CAP. I need to win the lottery. Take Care- Tony
