RE: av8tor1977
Well I really like the Echo 58cc that I picked up from Robert. A well done conversion.

Back this pm. Can someone explain why this comes and goes? If there is a problem? How can I post this in this forum and not have someone from RCU answer on this?

ECHO CS-360 Short Block
I got a pretty decent deal on a CS-360 short block with the factory magneto. Does anyone know where I can get a prop adapter from? I was thinking an adapter I could use with the stock flywheel. Or if I have to I'll convert to CD ignition. Thanks

RE: George Miller F-4 Build - also, welcome George!
Great Thread! I saw a George Miller F-4 kit on RCG that I missed and was upset about it. George made stuff that had great performance without the complexity. George, I wish you would at least sell short kits with plans. Just the other day after missing the F-4 I thought Custom R/C just sold stuff that almost anyone could have success with.

RE: G-38 on DC-3
I think the answer for the 3 blade on a G38 is here: http://www.zingerpropeller.com/Products.htm Their 3 blade or 4 blade for that matter have individual replaceable blades. For sport flying it just may be the best way to go.

Actually I did contact DA and all they had was an 18-10 which is a bit stout for a G-38. Menz makes what I want but it doesn't seem anyone stocks that. Unsure about Beila props as to how good they are based on Internet gossip. Thanks

Well as it turns out I have decided to send the engine to RC Ignitions for an EI treatment and he'll put a choke carb on it at the same time. But I really wanted to get a better grip on carbs.

RE: Culp Special-Radial Skybolt- A New Love
After receiving the Phaeton kit, the ribs can easily be reshaped if desired. I think I am going with a 14% bottom wing (12% just too thin) and will definately thin the top ribs because the top ribs in the stock configuration is super thick!!!

RE: Culp Special-Radial Skybolt- A New Love
Solved what powerplant I am using. I picked up a cherry old model G-38 for 150.00 and then came across another for 130.00, I just had to buy that one too. The first one is going off to Ralph Cunningham for EI conversion for my 81" Chipmunk I am going to build. The scale Skybolt uses a 12% simetrical airfoil while using a semi-simetrical upper airfoil. The great flying Sig Skybolt I had had fully simetrical foils on top and bottom. In a little less than a month I have lined up 3 builds in this order: Procraft 81" Chipmunk with G-38EI See Jim "Fang" Maroney for what I will be modeling after 72" Radial Skybolt with G-38 1/5 TF P51 with G62 Just to let you know that the Bolt may take a bit to get started since I'm doing the Chippy first. I also love the lines on the Chipmunk....And P51 hahahahaha My first rule is it has to look good if I am going to fly it.

Thanks guys. That's great info. I wouldn't consider an upgrade to the carb with the exception of needing to add a choke. Thanks again

Walbro Questions
With my soon to be venture into large scale gas engines and planes, I have read and read the net and found a wealth of information on Conversions, Poulan, Echo, Ignitions, and every thing else you need to know except........Walbro Carbs. It just seems to me that there is a black hole of Walbro Black Magic hidden that I haven't found. One website I read seems they put the WT-540 on a G-38, G26, and several other engines, but it is no longer made, see the 610 oops it's now a 834, yet last night I saw where a 547 is a replacement for the 540 and they are cheap on ebay(Genuine Walbro) Is there some sort of application chart out there where I could access that I can make my own carb decisions? I just got a SUPER deal on 2 G-38s(Old Style) and both engines will be run in a cowl, I think I need to replace the carb for one with a choke. Shucks, I want to do a conversion engine just because it looks fun and would give me another sense of accomplishment besides my love of model building (do people still do that). This stuff must be closely held in confidence??? hahahaha

RE: Culp Special-Radial Skybolt- A New Love
I will employ the scale airfoils: NACA 632A015 for the Upper Wing and NACA 0012 for the lower wing. I will receive the Phaeton this week and I will be able to tell if the ribs can simply be reshaped. Should be no issue as the airfoil on the Phaeton is really thick.

Culp Special-Radial Skybolt- A New Love
All I can say is wow. I have always liked the round cowled biplanes, Waco, Stearman, Pitts M12. But when I stumbled acMoreross the Culp Special which is a Skybolt with the fuselage redesigned to accept the M14 russian radial, I fell in love. This aircraft has the curves and lines that really come together in a way that are so complementary. I was looking for a biplane that could use a gas engine and stumbled across this Phaeton Build: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5203001/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm This gave me the idea on reshaping the airfoil in the kit. The Balsa USA Phaeton 90 kit will be the subject of my extreme kit bash into the Culp special Isn' t this just a beautiful aircraft????? More pics can be found here: http://www.culpsspecialties.com/site_files/images2/special2/source/52.html

RE: Culp Special-Radial Skybolt- A New Love
The Plan Start with the Phaeton 90 kit as a base...extremely economical and easy to modify. The aircraft will have a 72" ws, approximately 54" long not including the spinner. I am going to use either a G38 or a G45 for power. Build around these Fiberglass Specialties parts: ( a 9 1/8 x 7 1/4 radial cowl and the #83 wheel pants)

The "Color" is the decals. There is another canopy that has black/white grey decals but the canopy itself is clear. The outer part of the canopy is masked in a clear film.
