I don't buy that. I ONLY get it on this site!!! No where else! AVG stops it every time, so that tells me it's working right! Hmmmm, they must have removed the problem, and don't want to say anything about it. There is a virus that will go past any anti-virus. Not the same one for all, but there is, or will be one. Pat

I don't see that you did anything wrong! I have made offers for cars, lawn mowers, even my house, etc that way, and never been forced or told I had to buy it, if it wasn't what I wanted. No money down, no buy! Even then you don't have to buy, just loose the down. If he won't answer you, the hell with him! It's your money. It's not like you paid then asked the questions. RE: Top Flite Redbox P-51
Bob, Looking good! No need to rush it. I have a Magnum .61 in mine. I didn't put retracks in mine, I should have. But I didn't know if I was going to keep it or not, and I was rebuilding it (put it back into a kit) at the time, to keep me buzy while I take of care my wife in the next room. But now I like it, and wish I did use retracks. Thats the only thing I would change. When I was moving the tailwheel forward, I tacked glued the bottom on and then formed the fuse to it's shape, and then popped the bottom off and then mounted it. Keep posting pictures of your work! Any questions, just ask, mabe I can help on a problem spot. Pat

Christen Eagle II
Does anyone know who's ARF kit this is. I bought it some 20 years ago from someone, and it's been sitting on my shelf since. I have no Assembly manual, and it's never been finish being put together. It has a printed foam skin over a wood frame. It has a 49" upper wing span, and the fuse is about 42" long Thanks, Pat

RE: Top Flite Redbox P-51
Yes you are right, I never really cared of the size, as I bought this as a never finished disastrous build .60 size Mustang for $5.00, and I put it back into kit form, and started it over. It does have the P-51B on the cover, but I rebuilt it into the P-51A (different exhaust (Allison), 3 blade prop, and smoother cowl) version, and going to finish it into a A-36 Apache without the hard points or dive brakes, or guns. This is a stand-off scale, the Gold Edition is a completely different type kit to build. to compare them is apples and oranges. Pat

It's the earlier version from the 80's, and it's 1/6 stand-off scale of the P-51A, and it came in a red box. I have the gold edition 1/7 Corsair kit also, and everything needed to complete it, except pilot & paint.. - Some day! Pat

RE: Top Flite Redbox P-51
It's still waiting for a pilot, and to be covered, or painted, which ever I decide to do. I have set it aside while I had built my 30" DR1, and the repaired my 72" DR1, and then I built a few small planes to fly in the backyard. And now I'm redoing the living room, and making new cupboards in the kitchen for the wife.. I will get back on it, unless someone wants to buy it, and finish it. Pat

RE: LHS Rant!
I don't think some of the posts here read what I wrote. I was complaining that he thought I should have had his idea of top line servo's, ( I think Futaba's are) and that he thought the planes should have been arf's to sell them, thats what people want ! What is the meaning of arf, it's"Almost" "Ready" to "Fly." What part of these is not. Besides taken apart and in a box! The Thunder Tiger Champion 45L is a arf! that I put together and added retracks, servos, and a motor. It's more than what you get when you by the ARF it is. These are 56' and 76" wing span, not a foamy, or a electric park plane that you always see at the stores. Something different for people that don't want what everyone else has. (able to find on the flite line.) As far as wanting the hobby store to carry kits, you guys make it sound like I want him to stock up on them. I said a kit or three. A trainer to get people started, and a intermediate type plane. This hobby store is not hurting for money, he is doing very well! He probably spends more on his lunch in a week than a kit would cost to stock. Everyone say's support your local hobby store! But Don't ask them to carry anything you need, or any kits. Bull Crap! I do it all the time, and when I order something most the time they get one in for their shelf! This is the only place that doesn't have a kit in the store, that I go to. And the ones that do, sell them, and then get a different one in. Sure they will order you one, but some people see one, and buy it now, instead of thinking of what they want first. I know I do some times. Pat

RE: LHS Rant!
The hobby store I'm talking about has no problem selling stuff. He has a on-line store also, and brags about how good he is doing. He sponsors 20 heli pilots, he flew for Kyosho, he has 2 helicopters on the market he designed. He was loading up a hugh trailer when I was there taking half his store to Indiana for a fly-in this week. He say's he does it several times a year. He flys a 12' Telmaster that he built from a kit he paid $1200.00 for. Which is sitting on top of a shelf after a light crashed. He has large open space, were he could put a kit or 3. I didn't say to stock a dozen or so, just a couple. The main fly around his area is were 1/4 scale is the smaller planes, and most are scratch or kit built. There are 4 other small shops that cater to the hobby, around, I mean small in size, that all carry balsa, plywood and spruce, wires wheels and small parts, and each try to keep a couple of kits alos. But they all mainly supply to arf's and foam planes. They don't have the same foot traffic as the other guy so I tried him. I have sold planes at one of the the others and at the tlying fields around. I drive 60 miles to his shop be cause the nearest one to me is 45 miles away You say to sell it on RCU, I'm already giving them away at the price I'm asking, and most people don't want to add the cost of shipping these days. A year and a half ago I sold 45 of my kits, a couple sold on RCU but no one wanted to buy more, so I sold them on ebay, I had 73 nitro & gas engines, a few sold on here, I put the rest on ebay, I had over 100 new servo's, I installed in planes I sold I have maybe 20 left for me.a dozen planes not one sold on here, I hung and sold some on ebay I have 25 planes built, half are ready to fly or I am flying, 8 need to be covered and motors & radio's reinstalled. from .020 to my 1/4 scale DR1 and 2 arf's, and one micro foamy! Not to count the 3 new radio's, 2 boats, 2 helicopters, and 13 rc cars I sold also. Just in the last 1 1/2-2 years, to pay for my wifes meds! The owner doesn't make squat on selling your planes over what he makes on his merchandise. Ahh but he does, the amount is different for each store. I have sold many, many planes over the years. I am a builder of kit and scratch building for over 40 years, and always am selling a plane somewhere. And it also brings people in when the see different planes in the store. The only one that does Not make money is me! I do it because I have built planes since I was 8, and it's in my blood! I do it now because I sit in the room next to my wife, and take care of her because a surgeon screwed up and hit her Vegas nerve 2 years ago, and it keeps me going! You say - "Why would I want to buy a plane that I have to spend more on just to get engines and radio stuff I already have. If I need an engine, I'll ask if one comes with the plane." Not everyone has a spare engine, and today people want to buy & fly, And I also tell the shops that I will also sell it with out the servo's or motor for less, if they don't want them. And YES! it is thier buiness to do what ever they want, But, don't bicth when they close, when they could have also been selling stuff that the builders also need and want! They are the ones changing from hobby shops, to arf stores, not us! They can still sell to both and still turn their stock. Most hobby store owners I know of, where flyer/builder first, and then were store owners. Pat

LHS Rant!
I went to a hobby store, it's not a small one, a good size place, about 60 miles from me (the nearest one is 45 miles from me) , I have been there a few times before. I brought him two new finished planes to hang to sell. A CG Cub with used OS 4 stroke (cost me $390.00 to build), and a TT Champion 45L with a new OS 46 FSR with a tuned pipe, and mechanical retracks (cost me $435.00 to build), both with all new unused Futaba S148 servos. First he asked me "did you remove the RX's & do I have the batteries for them, those servos aren't very good!" I was talking to him, and he made me feel like a kit built plane, was really not as good as a dog plane (ARF) He said that people would come in and buy his arf there, a 50 something inch wing span first, because it came with the radio. at $450.00 I said if he talked the way he does he could sell my planes for the low price of $250.00 , and a new radio from his shelf for less than the $450.00 and they would have a much better setup & plane! He looked at me like I was nuts! Then a guy walked in and was looking around, then asked where are your airplane kits, and he pointed at the only arf he had and said there! The guy said No your real kits. The owner said what kit did he want, he can get any plane he wanted, but he wasn't going to get kits in, that will sit on his shelf for 4-6 months before selling! I said thats not true, that he would get builders to come and but them to support his store. He said Nope ain't going to happen! Looked around and asked How come you have every building accessories that Dubro, and every other brand sold, stock all the colors that Ultracote & monocote has, lots of different types of glue, and only 6 pieces of balsa wood, and about 10 pieces of piano wire, everything for building, and no kits! just a wall of arf's? He said people want those things! I said people want kits too! He also had dozens of helicopters, small and large, and I don't know how many rc cars he had lots, and parts for everything! Just none of them real wood airplane kits. Oh, the guy that came in looking for a kit, just shook his head and walked out! I left my planes for him to sell, and I hope he does it soon! I need the money for my wifes meds! I'm off the box now! Pat

RE: Top Flite Redbox P-51
I wish I had put retracts in this one, but I was just rebuilding one I bought at a auction, that was basically destroyed by the builder on the bench! I have a build thread on this plane, if you search for "TF P-51" you'll find it. If I decide to keep it and not sell it, I'll open everything back up and install them....Maybe. It's no big deal for me to do, I enjoy building & rebuilding. What motor are you going to use in it? I also made the bottom of the front of the fuse removeable, to remove the engine, and to get at the tank any time. I also moved the tail wheel, and it's steerable. Keep posting pictures of your build while you do it. Pat

RE: Top Flite Redbox P-51
Do yourself a favor and don't use the belcranks on the ailerons. I almost did, and I'm glad I was talked out of it.( after I had the wings halves glued together, and all sheeting on, except the top back half.) I've never had a problem with belcranks, but if you do or they wear and get loose, you'll have to cut open the wing to fix them. Plus their more positive, and no slop. I still use the belcranks on the flaps, which work good, but would have been better with servos there also. Pat

SunDevilPilot, I have been watching your build of your Nieuport 28. I have a smaller one. (a 56" wing span) But I have to drive 45 miles to fly anything, and with my wifes health right now, even thats out. As if I don't already have many planes to build, watching your build has made me scratch build another to fly in my backyard. A 28" wing span. I know it's not the same as what your building, but here's what I have so far. I still need to figure what motor to use yet, and to open up the cowl, and other minor things. Pat

RE: A Question about Hard Landings and Strong Landing Gear
ORIGINAL: Gray Beard I'm guessing this is a new pilot that just bought that plane at a swap meet and couldn't wait for spring to fly it. I was waiting to see it taking out the power in a 10 block area too! I was also thinking the snow and ice would have slowed the plane down but the pilot decided on the pancake splatt type of landing. I'm pretty sure the person that built this Smitty knew what he was doing. It looked and flew very well and put up with a newbie landing.[:)]
I see as many in the snow areas know, that if you look at the snow, he landed on is the side of the road ridge from plowing. He didn't pancake it on the ground, the ridge of snow Stopped it in it's tracks. Snow is hard to tell the highs & lows, they blend together. If he was over to the right a foot or two, it would have landed ok, a little quick, but ok. practice landings does not help, though it should. I have had this plane since about '90 and I just sold it to someone, that has flown for years, and fly's all the time, everything from micro's to giant scale. He pancaked it on landing on the 2nd time up, after he cut the throttle completely, and the prop acted like a brake, and stopped it's forward speed, it dropped like a rock on it's wheels. Driving the landing gear through the bottom wing, and snapping the fuse in two I got it back from him, and it's completely rebuilt (not just repaired) now, just needs covering, and I'm keeping it around. RE: Fun Fly Hots
Thanks, but for me to buy the wrong size plans will cost me $20.00 plus shipping, then I need to drive 90 miles round trip (another $15.00 for gas) to have them resized ($5.00) and then printed for $2.00 a sheet. Thats about $47.00. If I can get a set of plans online, I can resize them at home and print them off myself. When you can't work, you have to count Every penny. I'm not cheap, just poor for right now. It doesn't have to be a Hots, just that style of plane. Pat
