out of the closet....?
Yes I am a hard core Nitro Freek. I love everything Nitro, I even poor it on my cornflakes in da morning. I got to come clean with you all though, I am putting together an 1/8th E-flashlight latemodel to race this summer. Yes I said it, ELECTRIC latemodel. Lets just say, my Grandson talked me into it. I am NOT putting my Nitro cars aside but adding this one flashlight to the group. I am going to attemp to run all three classes of 1/8th scale late models at our track this summer. With the help of forum members I have selected the Mamba Monster2 and 2200Kv for my power plant. This will leave me a system I can play with on 6s when I feel the need for a speed run.

RE: First order through Hobby king
Placed my second order through Hobby King for two lipos. I ordered them through the USA warehouse. A week had passed since I ordered them and I did not even get a tracking number for shipment. I sent a letter to the suport center and finally got a tracking number. The return letter from the suport center said they recieved many orders and this may have caused a delay with your order. Your order has now been processed and will be shipped soon. A week has gone by since the letter, tracking number says still in Washington? WTF........Pretty sure this will be my last order through the Kinger...... [:@] P.S. You do get what you pay for..........

RE: what is normal nitro engine life?
Herrsavage, I agree, nothing wrong with SH engines. I also agree they like a richer tune than say an OS. I would like to ask you though, how do you check to see if an engine is used up or still good without tearing it down, short of a compression test? I simply roll the flywheel around with the glow plug in to see if there is a mechanical pinch left, or at minumum compression left. I would venture to guess that the OP can spin his flywheel all the way around with little to know resistance what so ever. Almost as if it had no glow plug left in it. I understand your theory of lesser pinch equates to less stress on the conrod, makes good sense. I dont think the OP has anything wrong with his conrod, sounds like it has little to no pinch left. I dont really see a difference at the end of the day.......you spend $150 on an SH based engine and it lasts 6/8 gallons. You spend $300 on an OS engine and it lasts 14/16 gallons. I dont think you could be wrong with either choice, it's a wash.

RE: what is normal nitro engine life?
I think there is a difference in quality between engines. I like to buy OS or Nova but I have two sons that race with me........one of my sons just recently got into nitro latemodel 1/8th scale and needed an engine. He did not want to buy an expensive OS or Nova or Werks for that matter, he bought a dynomite 26 mach 2. Essentially the same as the lrp etc.... I broke this engine in for him using the heat cycling method as I do with every engine I have broken in. I could tell imeadiatly that this engine does not have as tight of a mechanical pinch as my usual engines do. Break-in completed and it is running great but I can roll the flywheel all the way around already......I actually could almost do that imeadiatly. Dont get me wrong, this thing runs great for a $140.00 engine, it is fast as anyone else out on the track. I just dont think it will last half as long.

RE: what is normal nitro engine life?
I race dirt oval. I started this season with 12 gallons on my os 25 XZ running great. I am now up to 14 gallons and still running great. I pulled the engine off to clean chassis last night, I still cant roll the flywheel all the way around with my finger. I see no end in sight.......and I usually set TQ every week with it! Engine has never been apart for any reason.

RE: Help: losi 3.4 engine issues
ORIGINAL: epyoneda  Hi everyone. First of all, i have to apologize because my poor english, and tell you i´m a newbie here. Yesterday i dissablended my engine to clean it up. After assembling it back it became harder to turn, as if the compression would increased. I noticed that because in the top of piston travel, the piston push the sleev out and pull it back as it turns. Is it normal to engine get harder to turn after cleaning? Thanks
Maybe you took the piston and rod assembly out off of the crank and put it back in 180 degrees off or backwards. Most engines have a clearance cut in one side of the piston and the cutout must face the direction it was in originally or usually it wont make a full turn without hitting something. It is possible that you took it apart and just cleaned all the lubrication off of the moving parts and now its all metal to metal rubbing. Easily remedied with some afterrun oil. Another possiblity is you now have dirt inside and dirt does not make a good lubricant. Re-clean and assemble with lube.

Something different
So I did something diferent this week. I am relocating my hobby room so I dug up some old stuff from in the corner. I pulled an old sanyo 2400 nicad matched pack out of the rubble and desided to see if I could resurect it. Why? Who the hell knows but........after a weekend of cycling and discharging and DEEP cycling, I got it to work respectfully. Also found some of my old brushed motors I used to race and decided to rebuild an old Co27 like the old days, cut com new brushes re-aligned brush hoods blah blah blah. Thing runs awsum and suprizingly fast. It was quite fun going back......anyone else ever go down memory lane?

RE: Rc nitro turbo
Yea and any slip at these rpms would just eat belts like nothing. Besides the cost of the drive and driven pullies most likely will cost more than the model we wish to propel.

RE: Rc nitro turbo
Sorry I did not wanna stop the discussion, just was processing the snowmobile influence and put down what came to mind. Having a drive and driven clutch would enable you to tune our engines into a specific rpm range, exactly what a two stroke is good for. If you could keep the engine turning at the rpm that it makes the most tork while it is propelling the car/truck to it's max speed would be ideal in theory. This was a responce to the 4 speed idea, which aint that bad of an idea. Just seems like to many moving parts to me....

RE: Rc nitro turbo
Yea the 4 speed idea...........I think instead we should have a CVT like a snowmobile. It will be underdriven to start out and overdriven at max rpms........cool. Someone should build the turbo inside the pipe at least the drive and the rest outside the pipe. Just a theory again.

RE: Rc nitro turbo
Yea lets lock it so we can bring up again in two weeks and do it all over again. Leave your opinions on the table and walk away. Dont judge other opinions, take from them what you need and move on. Until it is built we will only speculate. When you open full throttle on your nitro motor you can only produce what your able to suck into the motor. If the air behind the carb is pressurized more will go in........theory shows potential.

RE: Effect of a Scratch
Seems like she was running just fine....saw nothing wrong with that pass. So your after the top speed record for the Savage, ahhh makes sense now. I have a Savage that is pretty fast, but not that fast. I pretty much keep mine offroad man. I like to drift mine wide open in the gravel....never thought of making it the fastest as it is a big ass truck. I see your running 1/8th scale foam tires all the way around for stability. How fast did you make it on rubber? If I was going to attempt to make my Savage the fastest I would strap my Clocked Nova Rossi 28-7 in it. Of coarse I would have to figure out how to start it as it is bump only. I think it would surpass the progress you have already made as it is the baddest MONSTER engine I have ever had the pleasure of laying my hands on. Hell, I haven't seen anything even close. This engine does not even sound like other engines, it fricken wails man. FYI I have no intention of making my Savage the fastest.

RE: Effect of a Scratch
4 gals on an engine is nothing.....should not need a rebuild at all at this point and this is your second? What am I missing here? That engine looks like it ingested a circlip or something. Still ran good though????? Just when you thought you have seen everything.......Thanks for sharing your pictures I would not have believed this engine ran like this.

RE: Break-in Intervals
ORIGINAL: purenitro33 A hot running engine that has a constant supply of fresh lubrication on each stroke has a lot less stress then one just being started. My question is what exactly is accomplished by heat cycling? I'm not looking to argue but I just don't see what is accomplished by the heat cycle method short of extra wear on the starting components from trying to start a tight engine over and over as apposed to just letting it run as much as possible each time until the pinch has been mainly removed.
I see your point, makes sense to the utmost degree. Instead of letting it cool keep it going until completion because the cool down actually does nothing.....I will try this next time I break in something.

RE: Break-in Intervals
Heat cycling and heat treating way different. The idea is to lap the piston into a perfect fit into the sleeve without putting too much stress on the moving parts (rod and crank). Bringing the engine up to operating temp however you choose and run the piston up and down until it wears in to a perfect fit, that is my theory of how this shizz works. I have never had a nitro engine that I broke in fail in any way shape or form. Everyone seems to do it different.....so be it. Read everyones opinion and form your own and do what works for you = WIN.
