RE: NEW!! The Official Pulse XT 25e ARF by E-flite thread
Turns out it was a problem with the motor leads...odd. Well, have the airplane assembled. The hatch is really difficult to get off...the magnets are surely strong enough. I am having to slide a pocket knife to use as leverage...kind of a pain. Wish they'd thought this out better. I am sure I will eventually damage the hatch taking it off this way. Nice airplane and hope to fly it this weekend. Dave

Thanks for the reply. You'd think the 60 amp controller would have connectors that would fit...I can see a smaller one not fitting. Anyway, I will wait for the 40 amp to come in and talk to HH. Neat airplane, can't wait to fly it. Dave

RE: NEW!! The Official Pulse XT 25e ARF by E-flite thread
Well, I have started assembling mine. First issue was the firewall did not accomodate the bolts that came with my Power 25. No big deal but annoying when you are trying to buy a matched system just to avoid these problems. Second issue is more concerning. I have a 60 Amp Eflite Pro ESC that I want to use until my 40 Amp ESC comes in. However, I can't get the bullet connectors on between the motor and the ESC! The ESC hooks up just fine to my Power 60 motor. It seems like the pins are too big on the Power 25 motor. Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks. Dave

I just picked one of these up for $149. I am going with the Power 25 and 3S. I fly at the street in front of my house and like to be able to land slow so the focus on lighter weight. I will be happy with a good sport flyer.

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Well, I picked one of these up this weekend. Going to go with the TP 6 series 5,000MAH V2 battery, Power 60 motor, and Eflite 60 AMP pro ESC. I used to have a bunch of airplanes, now getting back into it I just want a couple of sport planes I can enjoy when the mood strikes. The EPower Pulse 60 seemed like a nice choice for that. Have some of the accessories on order and am traveling soon for work, but look forward to assembling (such as it is) and flying this airplane. Dave

Maybe some day I'll get the chance to madin her. I have had it to the feild three times but the wind has been a tad too much for the first flight. I put on some scoops from my DHC Beaver to cool the ESC. Using the E-flight 60 with 6sA123.
Looking forward to hearing how it flies for you. I am considering this same setup.
ORIGINAL: Billybuck I maidened my Pulse 60 last weekend and i'm very happy. I am a noob to planks, with only heli experience and I had no problem assembling, trimming and programing the Pulse 60 to my X9303. I was amazed that I needed no trim adjustments first time up (none!). It handled very smooth at low speed and high speed. I was most afraid of landing for the first time, but had no problem setting her down nice and slow and tracking like an arrow. The electric setup is good looking and sounds great with power to spare. Note the clean look of the cowling with no cutouts for a gasser. Awesome. [image]http://home.comcast.net/~bi11ybuck/pulse%20045sm2.jpg[/image]
Hey Billybuck, What kind of flight times do you get with this setup? Do you get unlimited vertical? I am considering pretty much the exact same setup. You're right, it really does look nice with the clean cowling.

RE: 4 star .60 -- Saito 100
I fly at ~ 5,000 feet so that was a factor. The altitude affects engine and airfoil (prop) performance. I should have pointed that out. At sea level you can expect better performance.

I also agree that you can have 98.5% of the fun in RC with a modest sized airplane. I like the gassers for the reduced mess.

It seems all the gas pilots at my field have a servo actuated choke for convenience's sake if their engine is cowled (i.e. not a stick). I'm just getting into gassers so this is a good thread.

You do have to resist the temptation to keep going bigger and bigger. Let's face it most of us can get 95% of the fun out of smaller airplanes. I'm just getting back into the hobby so want to go small gas (up to 50CC which I can fit in my SUV) or electric which I can fly at my house if I want. I think Adam at BCMA will get back to you...he responds just not right away.

Hi Guns, I'm thinking of getting the BCMA Sport 26-IV for an Ultrastick Lite. The weight of this engine with muffler and exhaust is 36 ounces. Will I have to mount the servos in the tail to balance?

The BCMA only weights 36 ounces with the ignition and muffler. Given that light weight could you leave the servos for rudder and elevator in the stock location?

I'm planning to use the BCMA 40 on a Stinger 120 as well. New to gas and just getting back into the hobby but don't want to mess with glow and like the sound of the engines (hence not going electric). The 40 should be a good match because of its light weight. Looking forward to see how you do with it.

RE: AXI 5320/28
I don't buy airplanes because they were "designed for electric" but the Funtana looks like it was. Very lightly constructed. I imagine a glow motor beats the airframe to death but electric is great. I have two ThunderPower 4S3P batteries and they fit over the top of the wing tube and into the firewall area like the airplane was designed for them (in fact the instruction manual does discuss the E-conversion is some detail). With the setup you have and for $200 or so it would be hard to go wrong. To swing the larger prop you have to replace the stock gear. I got the CF gear from Graphtech. There are a lot of great threads on converting this airplane. It has been done successfully many times. Another nice thing about the Funtana 90 is the removable hatch. Very handy for battery access and kind of rare on the smaller airplanes (below 25% scale). Nice airplane to convert for sure. Here are some threads: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=340944&highlight=funtana+ http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379799 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2599797/anchors_3073885/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#3073885

I have my 5320/28 on a Funtana 90 with 8S3P and a APCE 19x10. It weighs around 9# and has excellent vertical producing 1300 watts. If you're looking to fly something scale you could go up to 13 lbs with this combination and have pretty good performance (100 watts/pound).

RE: Top Flite Giant P-51 Conversion
Darrell, Thanks for the tips. It seems you've looked more closely at the P-47 than I have. Only problem is an electric sounds more like a Merlin than a Wright radial, but, oh well. I would go with the AXI 5330/18 and use the same battery set as I am going to use on my Wild Hare 28%. I think the TF P-51 might be too heavy for my setup, but perhaps not. It would certainly fly scale or better. However, the P-47 with the hatch already in and a simple landing gear system (that apparently works okay) already installed, etc. along with being a bit lighter seems the way to go.
