RE: TF FW190 GIANT ARF
Here are a couple of Luftwaffe Pilots I have available for 1/5 scale for German Fighters. They fit perfect in my Top Flite Giant Scale Mustang and Corsair, so I am sure they will fit perfect in the new Fw-190. The first two pictures are of the pilots I currently have in stock, and the other picture is of one that I will have in stock in about a month. Just in time! You can check out the Luftwaffe pilots and all the other pilots I offer in the classifieds section http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=866243 Enjoy! Adam Martin

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I will be moving them forward when I install the new retract mounting plates. After looking at them, I think a full length 1/2" thick Robart strut will be the proper length. Thank you for the quick reply. Adam Martin

Just a quick question to KMP. What was the delay on the fw190 and spitfire? I saw them at the wram show in february of this year and thought they would be out in the summer. Has KMP made changes to the designs? Thank you in advance.

RE: YT (ESM) 50cc Spitfire
Tyor, Quick fix for your muffler. You need to heat tighten the muffler. Many many people have their mufflers come loose after tightening it as much as they can and cant understand why. The reason is because they are tightening it when it is cold. As the engine heats up the metal expands. So what you need to do is start up the engine, rev it up to get it nice and hot, then shut it down. Now you can tighten the bolts again. You will be amazed at how much more the bolts will tighten. Let the engine cool down after tightening. As the metal cools, it will contract around those bolts and the muffler will never come loose again. Enjoy.

RE: MLD-35 Gasoline Engine
By no means is this an insult to all the techies and engineers out there, because we all know you guys are the reason we have these great toys. But lets make it simple for 98% of the users of this engine. If your ignition craps out or is causing insane interference and you upgrade to an RCXL ignition (like I did) Keep It Simple Stupid. 1) Unplug and remove the faulty ignition. 2) Install the new ignition. 3) Just center the new sensor between the two screws and screw it in place. 4) GO FLY!!! Stop worring about all this degree stuff. Center the sensor, screw it in place, and fly. I did just that and am getting 8600 RPM on a 18x8 prop and have just started breaking in the engine. This engine is insanly strong and runs great with the new ignition. I am switching out the 18x8 for an 18x10 to try and bring the rpm down some because that is way to high in my book. But all you techies and engineers did your job perfect because you have allowed the average joe to Plug & Play. So for 98% of you out there that have this engine and are reading all these posts and getting worried, DON'T! KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID, Install it, center the sensor between the screws, and GO FLY!!! Hope this helps all us average joe's.

RE: Where can i find P-51B Canopy?
Hi Mik, The Easytiger P-51B Malcolm hood canopy is a perfect fit. If you go to easytigermodels.com and go to the giant scale P-51B mustang you will see the canopy. I attached a picture of it sitting on my fuselage. It looks awesome. We are in the process of building 6 of them. 5 will be D versions and mine will be a B version. Let me know if you are having trouble getting one. I can possibly make one for you if need be. The one I got is very thin. almost paper thin, and is begging to be remolded. This canopy is the only B version canopy that is out there to fit our bud nosens. Good luck. Adam Martin

RE: MLD-35 Gasoline Engine
locktite is fine to use but the most important thing you need to do to ensure the muffler stays on is to heat tighten the muffler. Start the engine and let it heat up on the ground. Once it is nice and hot shut it down. Now you can heat tighten the bolts. You will be amazed at how much tighter the bolts can go when the metal is heated up. As it cools the metal will shrink back down ever so slightly and sock those bolts down nice and tight. Once that is done you should never have another problem. For added security, I have seen pitts style mufflers come with a bracket that allows you to secure the canister to the engine. But definitely heat tighten the muffler first as that should be done no matter what. Good luck.

RE: Best Place to Buy a DLE
Has anyone considered shopping at their local Hobby Shop. I won't go anywhere else because my LHS can get me exactly what I am looking for and match pretty much any online price out there. And the advantage I get by going to my LHS is the on the spot and in person customer support. Working over the phone with customer support does not even compare to being able to bring in the product or anything you may have to your LHS and get hands on support. You are also helping out your local economy and gaining ten times more knowledge and experience speaking and working with someone in person than over the phone or online. I have nothing against the online services because most of them probably started out as Local Hobby Shops and have expanded to a larger market. Just thought I would throw out another option.

RE: Spitfire Engine
The OS 120AX definitely is a nitro guzzler. I don't remember my flight times but it was sucking that fuel like it was going out of style. It also made an insane oily mess on the bottom of the plane. Granite the engine was running like a dream but extremely messy. Any of the big 2 stoke glow engines will guzzle nitro fuel and leave a heck of a mess. Thats why I think you will be happiest with the DLE 30. The DLE 20 has great power for its size, but not enough to pull around the spitfire. The spit is going to come in at about 14-15 pounds. Especially after you add a pound of weight to the nose to balance it. So you are going to need the 30 CC's to pull it around and have a little left over just in case. Hope this helps. I build my planes to fly and fly for a long time. And be easy to make quick adjustments and repairs if needed. No one will notice a big cooling hole in the bottom of the cowling or a muffler sticking out the side of the cowl when it is flying by at over 100mph inverted on the deck. All they will remember is that the plane flies beautifully and that guy never seems to have problems with his planes. So remember a great flying airplane beats a pretty looking paper weight any day. So don't be afraid to cut that cowl and let that engine breathe. Adam

RE: Spitfire Engine
I have had three engines in my spitfire. They go as follows. OS 120 AX, just like Tevans55 above. Flew the plane well, but you must break in that engine very well to ensure it runs well inverted. Mine ran flawlessly. But as tevans55 noted you also will have to add a lot of weight to the nose. I also added the large battery and made a sheet metal tray that sat above the engine with lots of lead on it. To ensure proper cooling for an engine fully cowled, I opened up the exhaust stacks to ensure proper airlow up the engine and out the stacks. The next engine I put in the spitfire was an RCGF 26cc. I am converting all my planes to gas because I am tired of having to clean all the oil off the plane. Engine fit in the cowl very well but had terrible power. This engine was extremely underpowered to the point the plane was a handful to fly at full throttle. Many other 26cc engines may fly the plane but the RCGF is a dog. Do not put it in your plane. After the failure of the 26cc, I upgraded to an MLD 35CC gas engine to ensure that their are no issues of the plane being under powered. I have also come to the conclusion that a proper running engine and good flying plane is always more important than having an engine enclosed. I have the MLD 35cc installed but it is a much longer engine and is causing me to have to move the cowl out an additional 1/2 inch. this is fine with me because it means less weight in the nose but a little work to fill in where the cowl doesn't reach the proper spot on the fuselage. The MLD also drops about 1/2 inch below the cowl. I know the DLE 30cc will fly this plane extremely well too. Hope this helps. Adam

RE: ESM Bf 109G
the only issue I have ever had with ESM/KMP warbirds has been the lack of proper forward sweep/rake in the gear. It has been a major issue in many prior models, causing easy nose overs during taxing, take offs and landings. BUT, I am extremely excited to see that they have finally gotten it right, or at least very close. From the pictures it seems that they have put in enough rake to get the wheels in front of the leading edge. I don't care about how far apart they position the gear, that will only help in keeping the bird on all three's when turning on the ground. Excellent looking bird. Maybe KMP will bring one to the WRAM show since they also sell ESM kits.
