ORIGINAL: WinterHawke CONGRATULATIONS on a job very well done!! "Mildred H" looks great - both on the ground and in the air. Been fun following this thread. I'd already selected N6183 as my colorscheme for my own 1/3 BUSA Sopwith Pup - now I've gotta decide which one to do!! The original or the new (ie, a bit war weary, or pristine)!!! Thanks for all the updates. Very best regards, Lee McDuffee
Lee, Great choice of scheme! Personally in a Model I love the War Weary look. It just adds that third dimension. When you build your airplane bear in mind our nose is about 4" longer than the originals to hide the Lycoming. Enjoy!

RE: New Updates! 1:1 scale Sopwith Pup and Fokker Triplane builds
As promised, Here is the video link from the test flight. Yours truly at the controls! and a little bit of a description of the characteristics from Test Pilot #2 Paul Dougherty By now the news it out. It Flies! And pretty well for that matter. Mike Damiani conducted a flawless test flight on July 7. The airplane was just beautiful in the air. I had the pleasure of being the second to fly it. On paper the C.G. is pretty far aft, around 39% of MAC in the worst case, but it did not fly extremely tail heavy. Slight forward pressure on the stick was needed. The elevator position was much better than the DR.I, although the stick force feels a little stronger. The elevator in general is very effective and a bit touchy. The ruder is very nice and the ailerons are not bad either. The 150 h.p. O320 is plenty of power and runs very smooth. The stalls are clean and there is no warning. It does recover easily with a little nose down, but if you hold the stick back it is a mushy elevator trip downward. The landings are very straight forward and the visibility is not bad, but I am very tall, as a matter of fact I had to take the cushion out to get my shoulders in the cockpit. I wheeled it in. On the roll out it does have a speed where the rudder becomes ineffective and the skid is still skipping a bit. It likes to try to get away from you there. I think we will try to improve on the tail skid skeg to help fix this problem. The main bungees will need to be tightened up a little because it is a little "bee boppy" ,as I say, or wobbly on the gear. Most of the guys that were involved in the build flew it over the weekend during our WWI event. We put on a mock air battle with the Rumpler C.V, the Pup, and the DR.I. It was a blast to see the Pup in the air viewed though the gun sights of my Dr.I. We had a great time. Ground troops were shooting a real Lewis gun at me during our passed, but unfortunately the Germans won the battle. I have to say that the fight wasn't very fair because the Pup was flying without a machine gun. Smile Mike did try to get me with his wake turbulence. The Pup seems to leave quite a wake trail. More pictures and details will be posted soon. I am sure Mike and the guys will chime in with more details. The test flight video is posted below. Thank you to everyone that helped with, worked on, and encouraged the completion of this aircraft. It will be a great attraction at the Golden Age Air Museum for years to come. Look for the SPAD XIII next! 1916 Sopwith Pup Test Flight at the Golden Age Air Museum - YouTube

RE: New Updates! 1:1 scale Sopwith Pup and Fokker Triplane builds
Another profitable weekend, we had quite a bit of help rib stitching taping and working on the baffling. Here's a shot of all in the family rib stitching. Brian and Ruthann Bell and Neil Baughman. (Neil and Ruthann are bro and Sis). Also here are Joe Parkinson and Bud adding the Riv-nuts to the engine baffling. Here's some detail shots of the gas operated machine gun plumbing. Without all the help this project would not be advancing as well as it is. Mike O'Neal and one of his Students David helped in a large way on the rib stitching. (Mike is an indispensable member of the Group!)
