RE: Charger for new E-Revo
ORIGINAL: achop Just bought an E-Revo and looking for a good charger. Car comes with NIMH but I will be buying some 2s lipos. Would be nice to have one charger for both batteries if possible. Looking at SkyRC Ultimate800 - 400W x 2 but needs DC power supply and costs $149. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Hyperion 720i, no question. Buy one charger and be done with it. :)
ORIGINAL: silvermansteve a few years ago, many experienced rc'ers said on these forums they'd stick with maxamps, thank you very much, and that you get what you pay for, and no hk batteries for them. anybody still feel this way about maxamps? they're still advertising....
Yes, I'm still a MaxAmps fan and have many of their products...With that said, I bought a few "Traxxas" LiPos for me and my sons' Mervs and they've been great as well as Duratrax. I will buy American whenever I can and the fellas at MaxAmps are a good lot.

RE: good offroad tires for mini e revo
ORIGINAL: gforce2448 Going with wider wheels like the 2.2s which have a larger offset. This gives the Mini Revo alot wider stance and will help keep it from flipping as much.
gforce is on point! He made the same recommendation to me and I love the wheels/tires. They definitely help with flipping and they are durable as well. Make sure you get the rears all around for the 2.2 Traxxas dished wheels. Good luck.

We're going to do some bashing and I'll likely rebuild the rear diff on one of my sons' Mervs (again), eat sushi, and bash some more with friends and my sons. We'll likely go SCUBA diving on Sun after the egg hunt. Rustler, Vorza, Mervs and 1/10 BL E-Revo and something's BOUND to break :) I miss the BBQ in TX, but I'll take the weather / scenery here!

RE: Found Weakness In Vorza
Be careful replacing all that stuff with aluminum, it will transfer all that energy somewhere else (A Arms, etc). IMHO, you're better off to replace plastic and let those break before you start breaking bigger, more important stuff.

RE: Is it time to upgrade from Slash 4x4, Vorza?
You're going to get as many different answers as there are posters here, but I have a 2.4 GhZ Vorza and love it. Me and my sons have a Rustler VXL, 1/10 BL E-Revo and (3) 1/16 BL Mervs and while the Traxxas cars are stout, the HPI is certainly themost durable to jumping, etc. Times I thought for sure somethings was broken, it was fine. My Vorza on 5S is fast as hell, durable and goes for an hour on my 5450 MAH battery. Living overseas, repair parts are a PITA to get (wait for the mail), so I have a huge bin with spare parts, but even still, durability is key for us. Good luck and have fun doing your research!

RE: HPI Savage XS With NiMH Pack
ORIGINAL: cumminspower5.9
ORIGINAL: RC10 Collector
ORIGINAL: cumminspower5.9 A lipo battery will outlast a nimh pack. nimh cant supply the voltage and cant keep up with the power being sucked by the brushless system, resulting in a nimh with a very short life. i used to run nimh on my bandit vxl. out of 3 nimh packs (9.6v) atleast 2 cells went up in smoke because they were discharged so quickly when i punched the throttle. lipos can stand up to that kind of abuse. nimh wont do anyhting to the electronics. you just wont have the instant power and volts being delivered like a lipo and it will be slower overall
The only risk to using this type of battery would be cells being damaged?
thats what i have experienced with nimh and high energy brushless systems. the flux xs brushless system pulls more power, so im assuming it would be pulling more amps than my bandit vxl system did. so to put it simple... nimh batteries cannot supply the power hungry brushless systems without being strained, thats why lipos are better recommended. lipos will last longer, provide better power, and will not cut out under heavy loading.
Not to mention NiMH batteries are heavy boat anchors. As long as you adhere to basics, LiPos are safe and totally worth the money. I wasted a ton of money on NiMHs and wish I swapped over sooner. They're not plutonium rods, they're batteries. My 11 yr old (under my supervision) can hook up and charge LiPo batteries and my house has yet to blow up...

HPI Vorza Wheel / Tire Question
I'm stationed in Okinawa, Japan and the locals do mostly Tamiya, so between lack of parts and the language barrier, the internet is my source for parts. I recently picked up a 2.4 GHZ Vorza and love it, but the stock tires are already taking a beating with just 5 (5S) packs thru the car. I'm not sure what will fit... What do you gentlemen recommend for a wheel / tire combo for bashing? Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the board and a great hobby. I got into RC with my sons and got them 1/16 MERVs-they're awesome cars. Honestly I would stock up on RPM A Arms, front bumpers get some spare half shafts and enjoy. See what YOU think it needs before spending a bunch of dosh. It likely won't be your last RC purchase anyway... Just my $.02. Enjoy!

RE: Traxxas=crappy support
Agreed, Venom connectors have been problematic for me. Once I snipped them and put Traxxas connectors on my kids' 1/16s they were fine. So the lesson learned is: give the company a chance to fix the issue before taking a big greasy dump on them...

HPI Vorza Parts? (Update)
Hey folks, I'm deployed and haven't posted in a while, so it's good to see everyone. I have a new HPI Vorza Flux at home in the box waiting for me (my sons have snagged my E-Revo and Rustler since I left...). I'm looking for larger, front and rear bumpers-the HPI site wasn't much help. I've Googled and searched this site and while T Bone Racing offers what looks to be good stuff, I don't do business via PayPal. Any input you have on who has good aftermarket parts for the Vorza would be mucho apreciated. Thank in advance. S/F, Matt UPDATED The nice folks at TBR replied to my email and let me know they do in fact take credit cards. FYI.

RE: Venom Lipo's
I have several Venom NiMH batteries for 1/16 and 1/10 cars and the connectors universally suck. 30% of the batteries show "Err" when I try to charge them. I emailed Venom Group the first time it happened and they sent me a new battery, no questions asked. In short, I'm going to replace the connectors, but I'm done buying their products. Their customer service seems solid, but the turnaround time doesn't work for me.

Rustler ESC Issue? (Follow Up-Resolution)
I have a Rustler VXL that's only had about 10 NiMH batteries thru it and when my son was cruising around the track, it quit. -ESC Temp was 117F -Motor Temp was 120F I swapped out the battery with 2 others (fully charged) and the LED went green, then red then blinked once for "Sport" mode. I have steering but no throttle (fwd or reverse). Tried the Reprogramming per the manual (page 18) and per Step 3, when I hold the EZ button down from, the LED turns green, then red and I release it, it never blinks red, it stays solid so I can't continue the programming sequence...Though one time it went full tilt in reverse, so me thinks thee motor is ok... Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Follow Up: I spoke to Traxxas this am, and as usual, they came through. Apparently, the steering servo was bad. As soon as I unplugged Ch1, the throttle worked again and the motor sang away. A new servo is in the mail. I wish I didn't need their great customer service, but it's nice to know it's there...
