Uri ~ Thank goodness your still flying ! I kept thinking of ya once in awhile and miss your presence and motivation here. Glad to see ya burning some packs and keeping to it. Hopefully the nicer weather will bring our madman Max back around some more on a consistent basis also... Can't wait for a video of your progress ! ~ Jeff
Yeah me too Jeff! [:D] lol I fly as much as the weather allows me too. Haven't had a ton of time for much else though. who knew that being unemployed could keep me so busy lol. I've been keeping the kids at home to save $$$ on daycare along with trying to get myself back into school and find a job that will fit with my potential school schedule is enough. I am also doing a couple of side projects for a couple of families to earn a bit of extra loot. Building a huge set of built in bookcases for one couple and doing a kitchen table and chairs for another. Most of my extra time these days is spent in the shop. I fly my helis on my self imposed work breaks[:D] I certainly haven't forgotten about any of you guys and i still got the heli bug in a bad way. Won't be any more heli purchases for quite some time but I'm real happy with the way the rexi is flying and I don't really need anything more. I have to admit though wanting to pick up a 500 size electric. The new logo 400 is a really good looking 500 class that comes with the v-bar in the kit. Pretty affordable too at just over $600 for the kit including the v-bar electronics. in the long run I could be into a flybarless 500 for just a tad more than I have invested in my 450. Course that's the problem lol. $1200 may as well be a million for me in my current situation lol. At any rate i hope to get these side projects finished pretty soon and have a bit more time to get back to the boards. Have a good day everyone. Uri
ORIGINAL: 9sec240 Anybody put a Trex 450 together? I am running into a small issue with mine. The flybar cage is loose on the head. I am wondering what to do about this gap. [image]http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/20/l_36d431b2243f46b6814dff7b9dc09bfc.jpg[/image]
9sec i have that same gap on my equipment. using the align CNC stuff. i have tried to come up with a couple of washers to get rid of the gap but thus far have not been able to find 2 small enough to fit both sides. Can't just use one washer and off center the cage you know. My gap seems to be a bit smaller that yours though. I can just barely see the flybar through the gap. There is just a tiny bit of play in there. So far I have not noticed any ill effects as a result of this play. If I were to come find a couple of washers that would do the trick I certainly would install them though. Keep on the lookout for such pieces and in the mean time I would guess that your heli will fly well even with that gap. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Hey gang. happy St. Pattys day.[:D] It's been pretty nice here in indy. Today got 70 and the last couple of days has been in the 60's. Had some pretty low wind conditions most of last week so i have been able to get in quite a few packs. Been doing 4 per day for about the last week in the Rexi. Just got home from my last 2. hoping to get the batts charged up for a final round today yet. i've noticed somthing about my flying here in the past week that sorta bothers me and I thought I'd share. where to begin lol. Well i spent countless hours working with my G4.5 this winter and it has improved my flying no doubt. I have no qualms about trying whatever on the sim from tick tocs to funnels and everything in between. This is of course understandable given that there is no fear of a crash. Just push the good ole reset button and off to the races again. This confidence certainly transfers to my actual flights at least at first. I see now very clearly that I am letting my nerves get the better of me during my flying. no matter when I go fly I always start out very loose and relaxed and my flying looks great. Pulling loops pretty regularly and other demanding manuvers such as stall turns with double piros at the apex. It's almost as if I get out there and don't even think about it i just go. I honestly can't remember during these times what i've even done on the sticks. Then suddenly, always toward the end of the first pack my brain kicks in and I start thinking about what I'm doing. it's the rush that I fly for. My heart starts pounding and I end up letting the instinct flying go and begin trying to fly via brain power. I guess my brain is a crappy pilot though[:D] My flying always suffers when I switch modes. I can see the difference in the way the heli flys. To a bystander it would probably appear that 2 seperate people were on the sticks. My turns even tighten up to the point of jumpiness. This condition will last through the end of pack one and then still be a fixture during any packs that follow during that particular session. i'll exhaust my batts and go home and charge them up and go back to the same field flying the same equipment and everything is loose again until the adren gets hold of me and then it's a repeat. Seems that after warming up your flying would loosen but for me it's exactly the oppisite. Loose at first and tighter as the flying progresses. I don't really know what to do to get past this. I fly as often as possible and am in no way nervous about it. i feel in control at all times just too "tight" Maybe I need to take a sedative prior to flying which will keep my brain from engaging lol J/K [:D] Anyone else run into somthing similar or am I an enigma lol. Have a great day everyone. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Hey gang Hop all are doing well. Been a busy week over here. Did get a couple of flights in this week with some warm weather we had this week. Great flights with the Rexi. I actually did a split S accidently on pupose lol. Was coming into a turn very hot and got on the cyclic a little too much and found my heli inverted. I've had this happen b4 but have always just righted the ship and continued. In the sim I do these moves all the time so on this occasion instead of rolling the heli back upright I just yanked back on the cyclic instead. Heli did the lower half of a loop and went screaming the other direction[:D] Was super sweet. Was really more of an instinct thing than a purposful acro move but looked really coool anyway. Billamy I received that slo max in the middle of the week. Thanks buddy. I really appreciate that. I broke it in last night and will solder it in this evening. I'll post the results tomorrow. Hopfully that will be the ticket to solving my glitching. If it's not then the Rx is the only part that it could be by process of elimination. 9sec sorry to hear about your issues with the helis. You may of posted it somwhere b4 but out f curosity what Rx are you using with your 6i? You problems sound almost exactly the same as the glitch I'm having with my falcon. I'm using an ar6100e in that bird currently. I have previously used an ar6200 with no issues whatsoever. I've never had a lockout on the 450 with the 6200 either. Well have a great weekend all. Keep em flyng. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Heli nuts all of you...[:D] I've got nothing compared to some of you guys. Just the good ole falcon, the Rexi and the CX2 which hasn't been in the air in months. I certainly want to get one bigger eventually. A 500 perhaps. One can dream[:D] For now I am into the 450 and would really like to master it prior to moving up. This hobby certainly is addictive I can attest to that. My LHS guys make no bones about it. They freely admit that they are drug dealers lol[:D] 9sec i think the guys basically covered the basics on the cyclic movment. Certainly check the mix both swash and expo. That b400 should be pretty responsive. I had some issues with slow cyclic response on my 450 and struggled with it for a while. I finally got it in good shape. It was a combo of the swash mixs and headspeed. I had my HS pretty slow so as to be safe with the woodies and plastic grips. My 450 is a heavy bugger too at around 795g. That weight and slow HS just wasn't cutting it. I ended up with some metal blade grips and CF blades and a Hs of around 3200rpm and now its all very quick. Nice to have you on the board. Have a good evening Uri

Thanks everyone for the offers I PM'd Bill about the slo max he has sitting around. if it works out that would be great. After that we'll see if it's resolved the problem. i did check the gryo last night by unplugging it and using the 3-1 gyro and the glitch was still there so at least i ruled that part out. now it's etiher the rx or the main. You guys rock. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Randy I did rebind when I put my new servos in and again when I put in the new 3-1. I agree nothing to loose though so no harm in trying again. shane I hadn't really considered the main as the issue. It's a slomax with less than 30 flights on it. Unfortunately I don't have a spare in the box for that or I woulda probably replaced it by now just to be sure.[;)] I suppose it could be the problem though. I did check all the solder points though. I once had a similar glitch on my CX2 and it ended up being a capacitor had come loose and was vibrating against the motor casing. That is a cheap part to replace and I could probably come up with a spare 10 spot. just hate have to order anything until I know for sure the issue you know. I'll get to the bottom of it eventually though. I just hope it's not the gyro. I suppose I could test for that by unplugging it and running on the 3-1 gyro for a couple of flights. Would have to adjust my prop pot but I suppose it's a small inconvience to rule out the gyro. I'll do that test this evening. Thanks for the advice fellas. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Shane I did think that servo issues could be a the root of the problem so I replaced both servos with some brand new 3114's i had in my box. No change in the issue. So then i got to thinking that since my tail is kicking before the shutdown it may be the tail motor as that DD has 100+ flights on it. So I put in a brand new DD motor and still no go. I put in a new 3-1 also that I had in the box and still happening. The only 2 componants that have not been replaced now are the telebee gyro and the rx. the gyro seems to be functioning properly. during my flights the tail is rock solid until my kick and sutdown. Got me befuddled lol. I don't have the change for either one of those parts right now. I did end up sending my damaged 6200 in to horzion to see if they could help me out but I'm not counting on it as it was damaged in a crash. I conviently left that part out when I explained my issue to them though lol [:D] Maybe I'll get lucky and they will replace it then I'll have a new rx to put in there. If it still is a problem at that point I will know it's the gyro. We shall see. Until then I will continue to fly knowing that I will be having a glitch here and there. Just got to keep the falcon low and slow for now. Have a great night everyone. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Randy i do the same thing with my lipos with the same results. I use the eflight C505 and they will charge a bit more. Dont' know exactly why. From what I can tell it dosen't really make much of a difference in my flight times or the way it flys. I still do it anyway[:D] got an issue with the good ole trusty fp these days. I will be flying for the majority of a pack and then suddenly without warning the tail will kick hard to one side or the other (no noticable pattern as to which way it goes) followed immediatly with a complete power down and reconnect by the rx/tx.[:@] Also i'm not afflicted with this every flight but some times. Luckly I have only been flying it inside lately so it is usually falling skid first onto the carpet so no damage taken. Gotta love the FP duribility lol. I'm pretty sure it's the rx acting up. I never and I mean never had this issue with the ar6200 I used in there for a while. This issue started up pretty much right away after installing an ar6100e into it. Suppose it could be static buildup/discharge but I'm just not sure. I wish I had an extra rx to slide in there to check for sure before I spring for another seeing as it's pretty mch the most expensive single part on the bird lol.[:D] Got out yesterday and burned a few packs in the Rexi. Man i am just pumped about the way it's flying currently. It's a whole different bird than the one I started flying. plenty of punch and manuverability. Pulled the first good looking loop I have done yesterday. NP there. with the extra HS and punch was no issues whatsoever pulling out which was my problem b4. Still too chicken to try the flip. I've spent a ton of money on them so far [:D] and being unemployed sitll I just wouldnt' have the cash to fix that kind of crash again. I think last time I dunced a back flip it costed me $85 to get her back int he air. No vid sorry the little lady loaned the camera out to her mother and didn't tell me about it. Wish I woulda known since I spent 30 min scouring the house for it prior to flying lol. Maybe next time. Weather is turning again here so I don't know when I'll be able to get her back to the field. Have a great afternoon all. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Afternoon all. I've gotten mostly caught up with the chatter here. Everyone has been busy it seems. Man Randy that guru looks great buddy. I need to get hold of one for myself. always wanted to have a gyro controlled tail on my falcon. Also really impressive flying with the MT. you have really achieved the next level of flying. Love the rolls in ff. I can do that in the sim but haven't had the stones to try it in the real world. I've not had a successful backflip yet. hopefully with the aid of my recents mods I'll get there soon. Jeff wow buddy you've really improved quickly also. Saw some of the vids you posted and you are looking very comfortable with most orents. and general flying. Caught that crash with teh 450 as well. bummer. Glad to hear you got everything put back together. I see also we have a new poster. 9sec240 glad you have made the leap. you'll never be richer than you are right now though lol. This hobby seems to be a black hole for the wallet. Sorry to hear about you service issues with horizon. I had some problems with my dx6i when I first got it. Somthing was seriously wrong with the throttle channel it was very glitchy and was limited to 20-80% even though the stick was moving full travel. I called them about my issue and they asked me to send it to them. Shipping on me of course. I did so and about 10 days later I found a box on my front step containing a new tx and rx combo even though I didn't send the rx back the first time. so I had no real complaints with them. try again. they are pretty good about taking care of their customers generally. Shane I did exactly what you are talking about when I was having problems with nose in. I added putting an open box under the heli to allow the rotor wash to influence the hover. Helped to challenge me a bit more. I had the CX2 set up so well i could set up nose in and set the tx down for a few secs without any drift. The box changed that. If you are intrested I am up for giving my CX2 away for a song. It is sans rx but everything else is there with a ton of extras including the upgraded xtreme motors and shortened flybar. PM me if you are into it. I just love Indiana. it's 64 here tody which is way out of the ordinary I was really hoping to fly but unfortunatly the good ole midwest wind is gusting at 30 mph out there so sigh no flying today. Did put in a couple of packs yesterday evening. I'm pretty much ready to push the bubble now that I have gotten used the the way my bird flys. I see some acro attempts coming soon. I'll try to post vid so If I thrash it again you can all see my dumb thumbs lol. Got one more upgrade coming. i traded my old servos for a set of CF frames from the rex v1. Was a deal with one of my LHS workers. I am awaiting the arrival of those parts. Wonder at what point I should stop calling my bird an EXI and say it's a rex. it's already 70% rex parts and once I change the frames out all that'll be left from the OEM is the rotor head and swash. hmm. Who knows I still call my falcon such even though it's a franken monster of a FP. I'll probably always say the EXI lol. Have a great afternoon everyone. Uri

The HS-65's are clearly muuuuch better than the SG90's I had in there before and with the full CNC and CF blades running around 3200rpm the cyclic is so snappy. Well anyway I'll be around more often. RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Evening everyone. All this talk on TT's for the 200's and the 500's but what about our good ole trusty 450's. I'll admit to not having done any research YET but all this talk has me intrested. I'm not having tail strikes during my normal flying and when I crash these days I'm replacing the tail boom anyway. (along with almost everything else[:D] ) So the question; is a TT made for any of the common 450's out there like the rex or Mt? If they operate so much smoother and more efficently along with the benifit of lowering the static buidup issues that the belt driven tails do I'd certainly entertain picking a conversion up for the Exi. Great news on the Exi front. Yesterday in between sleet sessions outside I managed to get in a full pack to test out all my new mods. Happy to report that it hovered staight up with out any issues. One click right on the cyclic tab and I had 3 second hands-off hover. It flys smooth as butter with the new servos. As good as the TP SG90s are for the $$ they don't hold a prayer against the Hs65's for smoothness and control. The align CF blades are much quieter and smoother than the align pro woodies. I am pretty sure it's due to the fact that they are much thinner in profile. I need to track them but without any work at all they are within 2 blade thicknesses of each other in flight. The additional HS adds stability and punch. All in all I'd say this was the best test hover I've had yet with the Exi. I'm really happy with everything. I can't wait to get out to the field for a proper flight. I'll be sure to do some vid when I do. So i think that i can say that she flys as good as she looks. Hope you all have a good night. Uri

RE: Falcon 40 (Exceed heli) Forum
ORIGINAL: Vimes Ok, I'm coming up with all sorts of questions. On the stock motor there is something, a diode i suppose, across the connection posts. When I replace the motor should I put that on the new one or leave it off? I'm replacing the motor with a 400 size motor that I think will work. Thanks everyone.

Disney1 Date 1/3/2009 8:38:39 PM The part on top of the motor is a diode, and needs to be moved over to the new motor. Being a diode it is critical that the polarity remain the same. R N Sr
Vimes it is widely believed that the diode need to be moved in order for everything to work but that is a myth. The diode is a flyback diode which helps to protect things in case of a voltage spike in the motor. The thing is the Falcon's 4-1 and just about every other ESC/mixer already have these diodes preinstalled directly on the board. The diode on the motor is redundant and is not neccessary to have a fine working bird. I have been flying my falcon for almost a year and after the stock motor I have never had a diode installed on any motor I have used and everything has always worked well without damage to any 4-1 or 3-1 I have used. I would strongly reccomend adding a fuse between the motor and 4-1 to prevent blowing the mosfet on the board in case of a crash that you just don't quite get the throttle shut down in time. that will cause damage and will have you paying $40 for a new 4-1. Four info on the use mod search this thread. Directions have been posted on several occasions. Good luck Jim - A good 100% silicon spray will work well. Tri-Flow is super but pricey. For motor shafts a good light weight 3-1 oil is best. Again tri-flow will do a great job. For a long time I use a combination of silicon and 3-1 oil. I have since bought some of the former and it's great. Good for you buddy. Maintenance is a great thing. So many don't bother on these little Falcons. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Hey all. How's everyone doing out there? Jeff nice vid buddy. Glad you have been back around some more after that moving break[:)] Love the scenery out there. you managed to move from one beautiful spot to another. Weather has been an issue here in Indy. Not much snow but plenty of freezing rain and wind. Not much 450 flying taking place for me. I had a chance the other day and found a broken part as I spooled up so it didn't happen. As i discussed with Mark I blame the little people of heli faries or somthing like that. How else can you explain a broken tail pitch lever with no flights to wear it out[:D] Well I've done some good things with the Exi lately spurred on by some very nice gift certs for x-mas and my birthday which was the 29th. I got my HS65's put in on cyclic but haven't been able to test fly since. Today I visited the LHS again and finally procured myself a set of CNC blade grips and CF blades. Also picked up replacment tail lever. Put those parts on this evening without trouble. I also switched back up to a 13t pinion from the 11t I had on there while I was running plastic grips and woodies.[:D] I'm very pumped about the changes. I've now got a full CNC head and tail with CF blades on both, CF paddles, HS65's cyclic, 401/3400g tail, align bl35 ESC, and align 430L motor. Should be a pretty capable flyer. I've now eliminated all my excuses for having a slow cyclic response in the form of low HS, low torque servos, and heavy paddles. All 3 of those things are now remedied. Next time I crash a backflip it'll be dumb thumbs[:D] no more mechanical excuses LOL! Hope you all have a really great night. Uri

I tried to correct right and nothing. Spooled down and all be darned if my tail pitch lever isn't broken in 2. I've been over that heli with a fine tooth comb and everything was checking out A ok. suddenly I have a broken part without ever flying. HMMMM must be the little people. RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Happy New Year brothers. I did fly yesterday Randy. flew the falcon in the living room last night. Least I got a flight in on the frist of the year. I have managed to get my 65's into the Exi and all the trims and so forth are adjusted for level swash and all but I haven't had the oppertunity to test fly. Actually since my last crash due to lockout I haven't flown. I switched the 6100 out for another 6200rx and switched servos. All seems like it will fly well but who knows with these things. I see all of the snow pics around and feel for you guys. We haven't had any real snow to speak of only freezing rain. It has been exceedingly windy though. seems like every day is 20 mph+. I've got a fairly substantial section of my siding missing from the RH gable of my house from a couple of weeks back. We had a wind storm that brought us 64mph gust with 47 mph sustained winds. That's near hurricane force! Been too windy to even think of going up on the extension ladder to fix it. So at any rate the poor Exi just sits and wishes it could take to the skys. the gym I used to fly in is constantly in use currently with basketball season in and all. Oh well I'm hoping for a less than 15mph wind day so that I can test fly my bird and than it's getting taken apart for a full clean and lube. That is gonna be a project[:D] I've never had everything apart at the same time before. It's always been in sections. I've also never taken the upper frames completly apart. I'm sure it'll be an adventure. Well hope you are all having a pleasent '09 thus far. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
thanks Jeff I'll give that a go. what do you use to edit down your photos? We have photoshop 7 on our computer but it's a real pain in the a@@ to use for just editing picture size. gotta convert the files and eveythingn else. I downloaded that protos 500 for my RF. man that sucker is so quick in the cyclic. I wonder if that's really the way that sucker flys. If so expo city for me. LOL. Now that I've had some time to experiment with all the settings and whatnot I am ready to start tweaking it out to my liking. I also downloaded that rex V2 bill posted and it flys pretty close to, but is a bit quicker than my Exi. If I can tweak down the speed I'd be about right on. I think the stock furion 450 flys pretty close to my Exi in cyclic response but is not as fast in FF as the Exi. So If I could combine the 2 it'd be perfect. I'll get it there. Somthing else I haven't messed with is getting my DX6i linked up with the sim. i don't have the proper cable so that's somthing I'll need to do shortly. So far I've just been using the interlink that came with it. PSB I just noticed that you are in littleton CO. My wife grew up there. Lived at pierce and coalmine. She graduated from columbine HS just the year prior to the shootings there. we actually just visited there a couple of years back to see her home and friends and whatnot. I'm jealous. very beautiful place to live.. just love the way the mountains seem to come out of nowhere and shoot straight up. Kenn great pic man. glad to see you having a little fun in the snow. Quite a change. Pretty cool you got to meet up with Ray. Glad you're back buddy. Have a good day all. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Hey everyone. Hope you all had a merry christmas. Santa was good to me and my heli. The little lady hooked me up with RF G4.5 which is installed and working flawlessly. very cool to have. anyone know what expansion pack has the rex 450 in it? I know it is out there cause I have flown it at the LHS. Also got gift cards to the LHS which I used today for some HS65's Haven't put them in yet but I'm pumped to do so. gotta b-day coming up on monday so more heli stuff may be on the way. Whoo Hoo! mark good for you and your nuts.[:D] Can't wait to see the mcx in the great solo's hanger. Who knows what we will see. That thing'll be screaming around at 40 mph before we know it LOL Max i would suspect the belt also. I flew my Exi a few weeks ago and had the same problem. It did indeed turn out to be a a slipping belt and I haden't moved or adjusted anything. Just got loose somehow. Have a good evening all. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Randy thanks for the links buddy. I am seriously leaning towards the ESD problem. My heli displayed almost the same lockout problem. I switched it to the Falcon and put the ar6200 I had on there onto the Exi. When i flew the Falcon this afternoon in the living room I was getting lockout problems with it where it had never occured prior. That 6100e just kinda sucks. Never had any problems with the CX2 but it's a whole different ball game with the single rotors. Will have to continue testing. Need to fly the Exi with the 6200 in it and see if I have any issues. Mark sorry about your weather up there man. We've had -temps here the last couple of days and today it's been freezing rain all day. Who knows how much has come down. i know when i was in my drive earlier it was a skating rink. Haven't lost power but the satelite's been out most of the day. Not the same I know but still annoying. tomorrow we are looking forward to the same. I'd much rather have snow. Ice sucks. Jeff great to hear from you buddy. Glad your trip went well. good to be home I'm sure, snow and all. Have a good night all. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Bill the FPD looks and flys great. Don't be ashamed looks like you're flying is quite good. Fantastic work my friend. Me want one! LOL[:D] Look forward to seeing you carve up the sky outside very soon. Randy
Uri, are you flying a seperate BEC? If not then your RX probably shutdown from not enough power through the linear internal BEC in your ESC??? "JustPlaneChris" had a pretty good thread going about this some where on RC Groups. The Spektrum RX's need power and if it doesn't get it's share it locks out. I'll see if I can find that thread??? I fly a seperate "switching type BEC" in my 450 and will be in my FPD as well.
I am not flying a seperate BEC. Nor have I ever and when I first started with the 450 I would fly until the volt protection kicked in from my esc. never had a power lockout prior. That dosen't mean it couldn't happen it just seems odd that I was nowhere close to the end of the pack nor was I in the middle of any high power demand manuver. just some FFF. I'll look into it for sure and I'm certain that using a BEC probably isn't a bad idea. I just wish I could know for sure. Be ashamed to buy a BEC hook it up and end up crashing because of a shadowing lockout as opposed to a power loss one. Wonder if there is a way for me to test that without putting my heli in jeopardy. i suppose I could strap it down and run it full out to see if I can get the problem to reoccur. If due to the angle of attack I could be sure that shadowing wasn't a problem it would narrow the issue down for me. What BEC are you using Randy? Typical cost? thanks for the advice. Uri

RE: CX2 Proportion Problem
Before buying new motors give lube a chance LOL. After considerable FT on these the bearings can get a little tight or even go bad. If the bearing or bearings holding one of the shafts start to go before the ones on the other shaft you will certainly have drift that cannot be tuned out. An easy way to check is to feel both motors immediately after flight. If one is considerably warmer than the other you can bet you have some sort of bearing or binding problem. Try out some tri-flow spray lube. You can pick it up at most auto parts stores. It's good stuff and sticks around a while. If this dosen't help maybe motors are the answer but may as well try the less expensive fix first. Lube the swash plate bearing too. That can also cause binding. You will usually find that the motor running the outer shaft will usually be a bit warmer than the upper due to more stress on it via swash movments but it shouldn't be way hotter. Good luck Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
quote]I believe that would be heliven..........
Sounds like a nice place. LOL! hope you all had a good weekend. Boy it was cold here. Yesterday we had 7° with wind chill of -12°. BRRRRRRR! Today it's even colder. Currently it's 1° wind chill @ -22°. Saturday however was not so bad. It was about 35° and fairly low wind conditions so I had an oppertunity to fly the Exi. Did first pack at about 8:30 am and all went really well. Was the first time I was able to actually fly after my CNC upgrade. i can actually notice the difference from the plastic. The cyclic control is tighter than it was. I'm sure it's due to the lower slop conditions of a CNC head. Flew the second pack at around 10am and it didn't go so well. I experienced a Tx lockout[:o] Was about 6 min into my 8 min pack when on a left to right pass everything just shut down. I was going fast and flying low. It skidded to a stop 2 driveways down from mine on it's skids! The blades never hit the ground despite my having absolutly no control whatsoever. Only damage was a broken skid and a bent main shaft. I had spare's in my box so it didn't cost me anything to fix but still is very troubling. I have never had a lockout since I went to spektrum. After engaging t-hold and taking the heli back inside I held it by the base and started to spool it up and everything was operating fine. So puzzling. I'm hoping that Horizon will replace my ar6200 that went bad with a new one and I will put that in there. The only thing I can come up with is the location of my rx and ESC. The ESC is mounted on the bottom side of the frame and the rx inside the frame directly above. If I came by at just the right angle I suppose that the ESC could have shadowed the rx and tx from one another. It was reconnecting about the time I was getting over to it to pick it up. Thoughts. Have a good day Uri

RE: Copter X frames for a V2 Trex
www.trexparts.com has the upper and lowers seperately I believe. Not sure if the CoX frames will fit or not. If not you may check out the xheli sight. I know for a fact the exi frames will fit. I fly one and have replaced the lowers with align equip and it's a direct replacment. For me my LHS carries the lowers and uppers seperately. Uri
karlik Date 12/17/2008 7:57:11 PM I’m going to at least partially answer your questions because I have a related question for UTM/Uri. I use that century tail motor and it works quite well and seems to have a longer life than the factory. Another option is the direct drive- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHHM6&P=M http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p

RE: Zippy batteries a scam or are they any good?
I fly the 3s 20-30c 2200mah zippys in my 450 and they fly really well, don't get too warm, and always balance. For the price I don't think you can beat em. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
Mark sounds like an intresting gig you had there. I say Amen to the rest of your post. I am in a positive frame of mind about this even though I know it's rough out there. I'm sure that I will find my way to somthing, and I like you will always seek to improve the job that I am in. There is always a better way to approach a problem because lets face it, most jobs are 75% problem solving and 15% organization and 10% elbow grease. (note: elbow grease % can vary [:D] ) Good luck to you my friend. Sounds like we could both use a little. Uri

RE: Struggling with Single Rotor basics
PSB I have worked in various construction managment positions for years. I was for the majority of that a Hombuilding supervisor. I started with Ryland Homes building production houses and then moved on to custom homes. I also did a short stint as a cabinet maker with a local mill shop in between hombuilding positions. For the last 2 years I actually moved out of residential and into the commercial sector. I am currently a project manager with a commercial casework firm. We put cabinets and labratory equipment into a variety of applications. Currently I have projects with a hospital, a couple of elementary schools, a couple of high schools, and the new Ivy tech student life center in Ft Wayne. (Mark I was looking forward to coming up too. I was going to beging traveling there in the first week of Jan [:o] ) I also just completed the contract for the new Indianapolis Airport terminal which was in total a $1.5b project! Very high profile stuff. I really enjoy the work and wish it was going to continue for me. Unfortunately there are not any similar positions hiring in the area so it will change. At any rate construction trades are pretty slim pickins right now so I'm probably in for some new adventure. The way I see it though is once the housing market turns around the majority of the builders will be looking to restaff after having laid off so many so if I have to do somthing in the interm that I'm not neccessarily happy with that's fine because I can see some oppertunity in housing in the not too distant future. I just need to pay the bills. Heck maybe I'll find somthing else that I love and this could be a blessing in disguise. I'm not going to stress too much the family will not go hungry. I suppose also it's not too much of a surprise since in October my company filed chapter 11. Thanks guys for all the support. I haven't met any of you but I do feel like you are all a friend. Dave thanks for the offer. I will send a PM some time today. I really appreciate it. I think we can all use all the help we can get these days. Sorry to hear about your hourly cut. Uri
