RE: Pirate Ships
If you are up to building a simple rc boat from scratch, then search Springer Tugs, and consider building the basic hull. On the deck you can build the General layout of a "Pirate Ship" and your son can help design and build it along the way. [8D]

RE: How Do You Lay Your Fiberglass?
If you are just using laquer and paper, use the Silkspan that they paper the model airplanes with. We construct the balsa hulls for the combat warships that way. Laquer, then press the silkspan into the laquer and laquer it down, then move to the next section. Afterward, sand out the bubbles, and apply a bit more silkspan to patch. To finish, just apply more laquer inside and out, then sand smooth. Same process as fiberglass, just laquer and paper. [;)]

RE: Picture of Jaws/orca boat on blocks/barrels
If I had to guess, ... You are probably looking for a photo of the the ORCA from the "Jaws Experience" set at Universal Studios. I seem to remember that the back gets ripped off the boat, and the boat sinks.. Then yellow barrels pop up in the water, and track across the lagoon and disappear several times. then the shark leaps out at the tram and gnashes it's teeth at you... The picture you seek may be a shot of the lagoon drained for maintenance, and the boat sitting on its supports. Maybe here somewhere... http://www.amityisland.net/JAWSrideshollywood2.php Oh, its "George the fisherman's" boat that gets ripped up....

RE: ESC TO RUDDER LINKING
Yes, some people use a "V" tail mixer from RC model aircraft to mix the rudder control to the throttles. The trick is that each motor has to have an ESC so that as rudder is applied, the mixer can slow or speed up the motors on the inside/outside of the turn. [8D]

RE: Blue Marlin
There were two US ships carried back from the Persian Gulf. The first one, carried by Mighty Servant 2, was the USS Samuel B Roberts, after the ship hit a mine. http://www.navsource.org/archives/07/0758.htm The Blue Marlin carried the second, the USS Cole, after it damaged by a terrorist attack. http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/01067.htm . . . I have the frames cut(twice) for the Mighty Servant 3. Took six years just to get some good documentation for the boat. And there is a small model of the Blue Marlin for sale in the UK. http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=20112.0;topicseen Also you can buy a hull for the Mighty servant 3 out of Germany. http://www.hassemodell.de/rumpf/servant.html Several models built in and around the Netherlands. http://www.wk-e.de/Mighty%20Servant%203.html http://www.scheepsmodelbouw.ismijnhobby.nl/ [8D]

RE: Li-Pos powering our scale boats
My scale boats NEED 12-48 lbs just to get them to the water line... So it is not necessary for me to look for weight savings where the battery is concerned... I usually throw in the heavest battery that will fit into the boat, and then start adding lead weight...[:)]

RE: question about dual mtor operation
If you have efficient motors, then one ESC, from the reciever, and the power is split from the esc, to the motors. If the motors run hot, or draw a lot of amps, then you may need two ESC, on a splitter cable from one channel of the receiver. The Japanese coverted several ships to dual role ship/carrier configurations. The Mogami Class Cruiser was a split Battle Cruiser/Carrier, in 1943, like your proposed design... http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/78021mogami/index.htm http://www.scalehobbyist.com/catagories/Ship_Models/YKM00035070/product.php The Battlship Ise was giving a flight deck in an effort to make up for the carriers lost in the Battle of Midway. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9f/Ise1944.png/800px-Ise1944.png [8D]

RE: 2.4gHz + rc submarines = ??
Since you are in Europe you should investigate what is legal for your area. In the United States, 75mhz is allocated for surface vehicles, and also six frequencies on 27mhz. 27mhz is probably the lowest frequency available internationally, but are often limited to two or three channels per transmitter... In Europe, 35mhz is also a legal frequency, however, there may be some restrictions regarding aircraft or surface use. http://www.ukrcc.org/sweden.html http://www.ukrcc.org/internat.html
ORIGINAL: JSGILL ... Just a note no full size boats are set up with the throttle side by side, too hard to operate. ...
No full size boats with dual throttles? none at all? That's odd, Arrow5 just posted this first image.... [&:] ... The second picture is of the recently launched Smit Bronco... The third image is from the bridge of the AndreB another brand new boat. If you can find an old ACE fm radio, that would work, people have also been updating the old ACE to 2.4ghz using an after market module. The Robbe F14 with dual throttles may be available from Ships and Things, or Harbor Models. You probably want to call for availabilty. I have an old ACE radio that I use for one ship, the rest, like my Fireboat, or SDM tug, I use this old DX6..(customized)
