RE: PENSACOLA JETS 2012
I'm not sure yet about the fee for the event, but since the website is not working and there is no way to pre-register and save a little, most likely the fee will be $40 paid at sign-in at the event itself. Sluggo

Also, the dates on the website are 2011 dates. This year the dates are November 9, 10, 11, with club flying on the 12th that Pensacola Jets participants are more than welcome to come out and guest-fly with the club.

RE: PENSACOLA JETS 2012
UPDATE Gents, I tried, but I lost the battle on getting relief on overnight RV/camping. I wish I had better news. So, the format of the event will be the same as last year. Trailers will be allowed to remain overnight. There will be a 40x40 tent, with space free to use on a first-come-first-serve basis. Personal pop-up tents are allowed, and may remain overnight as well. I have been told we are having difficulty getting the website updated for 2012. So, do not use any of the links for pre-registering or for hotel reservations. The hotel reservation link in post #48 is good, though. Sluggo

RE: What size of RC planes do you like?
ORIGINAL: Microz Yeah thats actually very true. They bounce around quite a bit in the wind and landing, unlike my two larger planes, but I've heard this new AS3X technology is supposed to smoothen it out? (wind that is..not landing bounce).
I like big planes, have .60 size Hellcat, and up to a 1/5.5 Skymaster L-39. But, I just got for a birthday present a UMX MiG-15 with "AS3X" technology. I had no idea what that is. Well, let me say this little micro EDF flies like it's on rails!! Man, this thing rocks. The small size makes it look as fast as a bigger plane (yes, it can get small if you're not careful.) And it's not hard to land, either. I'm very impressed with it!

UPDATE The Hampton Inn has offered a group rate that is pretty darn good: King or Queen rooms, $69/night; King suite for $79/night. In a few days they will send me a link that will access reservations with this special rate. So wait for the link and use it to book. For general info, here is the Hampton Navarre website (again, wait for the Pensacola Jets link to book): http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/florida/hampton-inn-and-suites-navarre-PNSNVHX/index.html Sluggo

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
ORIGINAL: bookmaker To properly do a wheelie (wheel landing), you have to keep the speed up a little and just as the mains touch, push the stick FORWARD a little to plant the wheels on the ground and keep the tail up until it won't stay up any more, then you give it full UP elevator to keep the tail planted. RE: PENSACOLA JETS 2012
Gents, I have submitted the event briefing to the Whiting skipper, and have included a request for some relief on RV's. It may take a few days to hear back, so be patient. I offered to operate under a "probationary" status; i.e. give us a one-time permission and see how it goes, with the understanding that if we mess it up somehow, the RV/camping issue is dead forever. Hopefully this will be granted. I also mentioned that if security was the issue, the best security we could have would be some RV guys on the field overnight. Again, please be patient, let this request work its way through the chain-of-command, and keep your fingers crossed! [:D] Sluggo

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
As with any taildragger, full-scale or less, when doing a "wheelie", first it needs to be somewhat of a grease job, and second as has been mentioned, as the mains touch the aft stick has to be eased. What's happening is that with a wheel landing, there is still some flying speed available. At touchdown, the CG being aft of the mains, the inertia tends to keep the CG moving downward. Since the mains are now on the ground, the angle-of-attack increases and the plane flies back into the air. It appears to be a bounce - and if the landing is firm, part of it is - but the main culprit is the rotation of the CG downward relative to the mains, and the resultant increase in AOA. The opposite happens in a nose-dragger: the CG, being forward of the mains, helps de-rotate the airplane after landing and take AOA off of the wings. Typically then the plane starts crow-hopping, the pilot gets out of sync with the 'bounces', speed decays, directional control is lost. So, if doing a wheelie, come in kind of flat and 'skim' it on, ease the back stick to avoid any downward movement by the CG (maybe even a bunt on the stick), and let the tail settle as the speed bleeds off. For a 3-pointer, flare into the 3-pt attitude and let it settle onto the runway while increasing back-stick to hold the attitude. Since the tailwheel touches down along with the mains, there can be no CG moving/AOA increasing action, and the plane sits down on the ground nicely. This works for me in full scale taildraggers and RC.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Are the formers in question in the fuselage, in the wings, or just all around in general? Although, it is likely that if the fuselage formers are poorly glued, that is probably the case throughout the jet. I've been watching this jet evolve as I look for a replacement to my old Baby Boomer, but keep the P-70 that's in it. This jet has looked like a nice fit. I was hoping V3 woiuld be the "bugs ironed out" version. [:o] Sluggo
