The US engines 41 is a dog. Use the Zenoah g-62. Cut back some of the cooling fins in front of the exhaust, instead of the cowl so the engine will fit the cowl (no lack of cooling doing this). I've got 5 seasons and 650 flights on my TF mustang with this setup...in two words, it works. It also works well with less cowl on the bottom removed for cooling. The g-62 using 91 octane, 80 to 1 AMS oil, and an APC 22X10 prop, using several ground radars and one airborne radar, my stang flies at 115-125mph.

Cold Reboot, Looks like the ultralight crowd had some issues with ams oil 2000, but none of the threads said what mix they were using, and if the carb mixtures were setup correctly. None mentened anything about using the sabre synthitic. Sounds like more than a fair share of engine burn downs with lawn boy, stil, and penzoil as well. Results don't lie, i'm sticking with what i know works....

Cold Reboot, wondered what your issue was reguarding not using ams oil period. i've got 500+ flights on the g-62 with ams oil with no lub issues. the inside of the engine still looks brand new. The president of IMAC world wide strongly suggested that i use this oil. Please explain.l

BillyD, shelve the glow engine and get yourself a Zenoah g-62 for your p-51. Use an APC 22x10 prop, 93 octane fuel. and AMS oil Sabre oil at 90 to 1. I've been campaning my TF Giant p-51 for 4 yrs with total confidence with this combo with tremendous results: 40 lb. of thrust at 7400 rpm static, 125 mph passes with pito radar, 12 oz. of fuel on 10 min. flights, no glow mess, $2.70 gal. fuel costs, 450+ flights with no dead sticks, no failing ignition battery worries with CDI ignition, massive flight envelope, the plane balanced with no lead, and the engine was the least expensive in it's class. (4 blade prop is for static display.)

crashproof, got 125mph on the flat with my tf p-51 using a g-62-apc 22x10 and 94 octane fuel using an on board electronic speedometer. 22lbs, 24 lbs with fuel.

crashproof, the zinger 22x10 is a paint stick. try either a apc22x10 or a xoar22x10 on that g-62 and watch your stang sizzle. you'll get 40% more thrust.

DUBER, I RECIEVED THE GEN 5 GEARS LAST WEEK, MORE OF THE SAME KMP WOES WHICH INCLUDE: 6 SCREWS MISSING, INCLUDING THE SET SCREWS THAT HOLD THE CYLINDER ENDS TO THE CROSS PINS., HAD TO COBBLE THE SCREWS OFF T-CAT #1'S CRASHED GEAR TO FIX THIS. THE I.D. OF THE BLOCK BORES THAT HOLD THE MAIN GEAR STRUTS WERE TOO BIG, HAD TO LINE THE BORE WALLS WITH .002 SHIM STOCK TO GET THEM TO TIGHTEN UP. THE BOTTOM OF ONE OF THE BORES HAD A NUB STICKING UP ABOUT .050 SO THE MAIN GEAR STRUT WOULD'NT SIT DOWN IN THE BORE ALL THE WAY. FOUND MULTIPLE SCREWS AND BOLTS LOOSE, SOME SCREWS WERE'NT EVEN SCREWED IN THE UNITS, FOUND THEM FLOATING AROUND IN THE SHIPPING BAGS. THE AIR LINE SHIPPED IS TOO SMALL ON THE I.D. AND WON'T GO OVER THE SUPPLIED FITTINGS.THE SET SCREWS THAT HOLD THE NOSE GEAR TO THE PIN ARE WAY TOO SMALL, MACHINED THEM TO A 10-32, WAY MORE GRIPPING POWER. NO CABLE CAME WITH THE RETRACTS FOR THE NOSE GEAR STEERING.( THE CONTROL ARM I.D. IS BIGGER ON THE GEN 5 UNIT, SO YOU HAVE TO CUT AND RE -STRING THE CABLE TO USE THE GEN 5 ARM.) ONE OF THE MAIN GEAR'S AXLE'S WAS TOO SHORT TO FIT THE SUPPLIED SPACERS AND NYLOCK NUT, AGAIN HAD TO SWIPE A LONGER ONE OFF THE CRASHED T-CAT'S GEAR. THE BIGG QUESTION IS...... WHERE IS KMP'S QUALITY CONTROL?? GUYS, IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THESE GEARS, LOCKTITE EVERY BOLT AND SCREW AND DON'T ASSUME THEY'LL WORK WITHOUT DOING THIS. HAVE SHELVED ALL THE KMP HARDWARE AND AM USING ROBART AIR VALVES, TANK, AIR LINES, FITTINGS, ETC. GENTS, SAVE YOURSELF A LOT MORE AGGRAVTION AND JUST GO BUY THE SIERRA RETRACTS[&:]..........

JBW, USING THE C.G. POINT IN THE DIRECTIONS, T-CAT #1 TOOK 12 OZ. OF LEAD IN THE NOSE MOUNTED BY THE NOSE GEAR DOORS AND THE GEAR UP, TO BALANCE SLIGHTLY NOSE HEAVY. THE PLANE FLEW AND LANDED VERY WELL WITH THIS AMOUNT OF LEAD. T-CAT #2 USING THE SAME RADIO, ENGINES, ETC., LOCATED IN THE SAME AREAS OF THE PLANE TOOK ONLY 6 OZ. TO GET THE SAME RESULTS. I MARKED THE C.G. POINT IN TWO PLACES ON THE TOP OF THE WING, TOOK A STRAIGHT EDGE AND MARKED TWO DOTS AT THE WING TIPS, THEN HAD A HELPER AND MYSELF USE ONE FINGER AT EACH POINT AT THE WING TIPS AND CHECKED THE C.G. DON'T FORGET TO BALANCE THE PLANE AXIALLY AS WELL. (LEFT TO RIGHT. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, SHOLUD BE NETURAL.)[;)]

COL. WINTER, I HAD LENGTHY DISCUSSIONS WITH KMP ABOUT ENGINE CHOICES AT THE BEGINNING OF MY T-CAT "JURONEY", AND DECIDED 2 .91'S (30 CC'S) TO PULL UPWARDS OF 30 LBS. WAS WAY UNDERPOWERED TO SAY THE LEAST. MY FIRST T-CAT WAS AN AWESOME PERFORMER WITH THE G-26'S. USING THE SAME G-26'S ON T-CAT #2 WITH APC 16X10'S. ALSO USING A FUTABA SERVO SINCRONIZER FOR SINKING THE THROTTLES. THIS COMBO PULLS LIKE A 747, IN MY BOOK TOO MUCH IS JUST ENOUGH. I THINK YOUR CHOICE TO GO WITH TWO 24 CC GASSERS IS A GOOD ONE. I CHECKED KMP'S WEBSITE, AND THEY ARE CHARGING $300.00 FOR THEIR WEAKLING RETRACTS.[:@] I NEED TO SAVE UP FOR THE SERRIA UNITS. FRUSTRATING, THIS IS HOLDING UP THE MAIDEN.....

PYLON2, 99% DONE WITH T-CAT #2, HAVING ISSUES WITH THE KMP RETRACTS. THESE UNITS DON'T WANT TO SPRING DOWN AND LOCK CORRECTLY. AM USING 95 PSI IN THE LARGE ROBART AIR TANK. THEY ACT LIKE THE RETURN SPRINGS AREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO DEPLOY AND LOCK THEM. ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS IS HOLDING UP MAIDEN FLIGHTS.[:@]

BLACKWIDOW, WOAH! THAT'S ABOUT 75 OZ. PER SQ. FT. FAT LADY. MY FIST T-CAT WAS 28 LBS. WITH FUEL AND THE G-26'S PULLED IT LIKE A 747, TONS OF POWER. THESE CATS ARE TYPICALLY HEAVY AND FAST. GLAD YOU CHOSE THE G-26'S.......

JB, THE THE SURFACE THROWS IN THE MANUAL ARE WHAT I USED ON MY FIRST T-CAT, THEY WORKED VERY WELL WITH THE DUAL RATES OFF ON ALL SURFACES. HAVEN'T POSTED IN A WHILE, T-CAT #3 IS ALMOST DONE, SOME RADIO AND AIRLINE WORK TO DO. I'M USING THE G-26'S AGAIN, THIS TIME THE CYLINDER HEADS HANG OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE COWL ABOUT 2 FINS OR SO, (ON THE FIRST T-CAT THEY WERE COMPLETLY IN THE COWLS) SHOULD GET GOOD COOLING. DETLEF, EXCELLENT JOB ON YOUR MAIDEN FLIGHTS. THOSE G-26'S REALLY MAKE HER RIP! MY FIST LANDING WAS LIKE YOURS. I FOUND WITH A LITTLE DOWN ELEVATOR AS SOON AS THE MAINS TOUCH WILL STOP THE HOPPING AND PORPUSING. MY 2ND T-CAT IS COMING TOGETHER, GLUING THE WING TOGETHER, SO FAR SO GOOD. CHASRB, MY PLANE, T-CAT #2 IS #18 FROM BATCH #3. ALL, T-CAT BROS, SOMETHING TO REPORT. I CUT AN ACCESS HOLE FOR THE WIRE EXIT IN MY CENTER SECTION AND PLEASENTLY DISCOVERED A VERY BEEFY (1/4" TO 3/8" THICK) PLYWOOD CENTER CROSS BRACE GLUED IN RIGHT ON THE CENTER LINE OF WHERE THE WING TUBES BUTT IN TO THE RIBS. I TOOK A GOOD LOOK AT MY CRASHED WING AND FOUND THAT WING HAS THE SAME WOOD BRACING (#38 BATCH #1) AS T-CAT #2. THIS WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THE CENTER OF THE CENTER SECTION DID''NT FAIL IN THE CRASH. GENTS, A QUICK CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR WING HAS THE CENTER BRACE INSTALLED: GENTLY PRESS ON THE SKIN WHERE THE CENTERLINE OF THE TUBES WOULD THEORICALLY INTERSECT IF THEY CAME TOGETHER. THE CENTER SECTION SHOULD FEEL VERY SOLID IN THIS AREA. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FEEL THE WOOD UNDER THE SKIN. IT NOW APPEARS NO REINFORCING IS NESSASSARY ON MY WING.....[;)]

T-CAT BROS, I TALKED TO PAUL KONDOR FROM KMP AT THE TOLEDO SHOW FRI., AND DISCUSSED THE CENTER SCETION ISSUE IN GREAT DETAIL WITH HIM. KMP'S POSTITON ON THIS ISSUE IS THE ONLY CENTER SECTION FAILURES ARE FROM TWO CRASHES, MINE(OAK TREE STRIKE), AND THE OTHER WAS THE CART WHEEL (TIP STALL ON TAKEOFF) CRASH. THE CENTER MOST PART OF THE CENTER SECTION ON MY PLANE DID NOT FAIL, ONLY WHERE THE TREE BRANCH WENT THRU. PAUL SAID THE ENGINEERING AND ASSEMBLY METHODS MAKE THE CENTER SECTION PLENTY STRONG AND THERE IS NO NEED TO BUTCHER UP THE WING TO INSTALL REINFORCEMENTS. THEY BUILD UAV'S FOR THE GOV'T USING THE SAME MATERIALS AND ENGINEERING METHODS AS THE T-CAT AND HAVE HAD NO WING FAILURES. AGAIN, THIS WHOLE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE DEBATIBLE. STILL NOT SURE WHAT MY DECISION WILL BE WITH MY BIRD....

KNIVERFLYER, ASSUMING PRODUCTION T-CATS ARE BUILT WITH THE SAME MATERIALS, METHODS AND MOLDS, AND BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH TWO T-CATS, I CAN TELL YOU THAT THERE ARE NO PRODUCTION T-CATS ( BATCHES 1 AND 2 ANYWAY) FLYING ANYWHERE THAT WEIGH ONLY 22LBS., UNLESS THE BUILDER ELECTED TO MOVE THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL'S RECOMMENDED C.G. VERY AFT, WHICH WOULD SEROUSLY JEPORDIZE THE DESIGNED FLIGHT ENVLOPE OF THE PLANE, COMPROMISING THE PLANE'S ABILITY TO FLY. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ENGINES ONE USES, THE PLANE HAS TO BALANCE. YOU CAN'T CHEAT THE LAWS OF PHYSICS. THE TAIL SECTION ON THIS BIRD IS EXTREMELY HEAVY. IT TOOK 2 G-26'S, A 3000MAH BATTERY MOUNTED IN FRONT OF THE FRONT BULKHEAD, AND 12 OZ. OF LEAD AS FAR FORWARD AS I COULD GET IT IN THE NOSE TO BALANCE MY BIRD (WITH GEAR RETRACTED) PER THE MANUAL'S C.G. LOCATION. MY PLANE TIPPED THE SCALES AT 26.5 LB. DRY. KMP'S PROTOYPE MAY HAVE BEEN 22LBS., BUT IT IS NOT REPRESENTITIVE OF THE PRODUCTION MODELS.
