RE: Old Rhienbeck Aerodrome on the 8th
I'd like to add my thanks to the crew at Mid-Hudson for work they did to put on a spectacular Jamboree weekend. Great job and look forward to seeing you all and the participants next year - had a blast! Vern

RE: WOULD YOU BUY A MERCEDES DIII ENGINE
Hi Chuck, Regarding your 6-cyl projects, do you have any further information, photos, drawings, or sketches of the planned gas version. My take on it is that the engine doesn't necessarily have to look absolutely scale as long as the size is sufficient and the exhaust is on the correct side as the Merc as your potential customers would likely be scale modelers and could doctor up the appearance if need be. Any updates? Vern

RE: Nosen Mr Mulligan fuse templates needed
All the ribs are the same until the aileron where each rib's shape changes as you work towards the wing tip as the aileron's leading edge tapers. That's why I have some trouble defining each rib's shape.

RE: Nosen Mr Mulligan fuse templates needed
I took a closer look at the fuse last night and I can tell you now that all of the fuse formers on the bottom are semicircular. All you need to do is draw a half circle on your stock the same diameter as the fuse width on the drawings at that former number. It's really simple. The rib shapes are not as easy and will require some careful measuring and tracing from the assembled wing. Perhaps this can get you started on the fuse. Vern

RE: Nosen Mr Mulligan fuse templates needed
Aerowoof, I just thought to look at the map and perhaps you're not so far away that you want to consider coming down to take your own measurements. Like I wrote, my fuse is built up, but not completed or enclosed. With some effort, you would be able to grab shapes with foil impressions or tracing from where they are in the fuse. Interested? Vern

I get it and now understand better your situation. Since my fuse is already assembled, I can't trace the individual parts. I guess I can't provide the assistance you need. Sorry. Vern

RE: Nosen Mr Mulligan fuse templates needed
If you have two sheets of plans, that's all there is. As the pre-cut parts are labled, follow the directions and it will go together just fine and you won't need cross-section images at each former. Do you have the set of instructions? Vern

You might also find some used Trexler inflatable balloon wheels. http://www.trexlerballoonwheel.com/ They may not still be in business but the wheels are great for a cub.

Hey PM, I picked up a NIB Mr. Mulligan at a yard sale a few years ago (didn't know what they had) and have yet to finish it, but I do have the plans. I'd be glad to copy some of the details if you let me know how much of them you need, or do you need all of both sheets? Vern

RE: Best scale photo!
Hey Phil, I like your head-on jet but the crispness of the model makes me pause. Just a thought - if you take the same head-on shot from a distance, and with a moderate telephoto lens, you'll end up with more of the foreground and background in focus, loosing some of the contrast in focus and possibly add some realism. Keep up the good work! Vern

RE: Best scale photo!
Hey Martin, Thanks for the kind words. One thing that I have learned since that shot is that when taking a scale picture from a ground level, it will often help the realism if the wheels are propped up on small blocks to get the LG out of the not-to-scale grass. Vern

RE: A PUZZLING SITUATION FOR SURE
A shot in the dark but have you checked the fuel filter for partial clogging. I had results similar to yours until I began using only white gas or Coleman fuel (no additives) as I found that any lubrication ( I tried many brands) I used caused a loose gelatin to form in the tank and, even though run-up on the ground seemed fine, after only 60 to 90 secs in the air, the engine would quit. Best to you,

RE: power pro fishing line for pull pull?
I have used both plastic-coated wire for standing rigging and braided nylon for control lines when they turn over pulleys (need the flexibility). Both are rated at 80# and swaged with small copper tubing. The standing rigging wire is very strong for flying conditions and parts, or swagings let loose only when landing very hard or some other trauma (like cartwheel!) - has saved the structure from damage several times.

RE: Twisty pipe
I agree. Hard silver solder will withstand higher temps 1100-1200 deg but is more difficult to apply than low temp silver solder as it is not gap-filling at all. Brazing can handle temps of 1100 deg+ and has worked fine without failure on my exhaust projects. Clean surfaces, MAPP gas torch, flux, and brazing rod and you're all set.

RE: Twisty pipe
I been successful with a Quadra 50 gas engine using silver-soldered 3/4 copper pipe leading to a standard lawn mower muffler. Sound is much more pleasing than the engine supplied muffler, but the primary reason for the modification was to get the exhaust to the opposite side. Vern
