RE: Byron F-16 Turbine Conversion
Thanks for the comments guys. The wings are going to be permanently bonded to the fues. Dave the wing tanks will be the drop tanks supplied with the kit and will be permanently fixed to the wings. They are hollow and will except plastic bottles. The drop tanks are actually pretty close to the fuse and since the wings will be fixed, I dont think they will add that much in the G factor to the wings. They will also be drained first and I hope to have a main tank in the fues(though it wont be that big) Im aiming for at least 2 liters total. Thanks for the tip Edward.. but Im long beyond making any further mods to that area of the plane. I think what Ill do is just try it with the spar accross the fues. If its starving for air, then Ill have to modify it. How's your Mig doing? You must have had many flights on it by now. Post a pic or two please. Trev

RE: HOBBY king going down the tube?
HK does not own ANY retail outlets. They mearly sponsor and give a discount price to retailers. If a retail store closes do to late payment on the rent..It is 100% the owners fault due to bad managment. You should all be greatfule to HK. If they never opened their doors 5 years ago, we would still be paying $125 for a 3s 2200 battery for one example. They are the sole reason that prices are SO MUCH cheaper world wide and are the sole reason why RC has expanded and doubled if not tripled in the last 5 years. End of Rant. Now get back your bitching and wining about a scratch wing tip.. Ah ha ha.. ps..Ive order at least 12 planes from them. 6 foamies and 6 composites. Not one had the slightest bit of damage.

RE: Hobbyking BD5 for Jetcat P20
My buddy has this plane.. First thing I thought was...What an excellent candidate for a p-20.[:)] The P-20 is small enough and light enough to over come the weight of fuel with ease. The 90mm Motor/fan must weight close to 2lbs not forget the esc and oh yeah! the 3 or 4lbs of batteries. Keeping it light will be the best solution as always..but I think this plane could handle a few extra grams with electric gear. Dont worry about the wings, there not scale. They were designed to make this plane fly.[;)] Having said all that... The HK L-59 is the Best 90mm EDF I have ever flown. Put a p20 in that puppy and you will be one happy camper.[:D] Im actually looking for a Wren 44 gold to install in mine.

RE: How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
Its a loose fit. Goes in kinda snug till it hits the wear area and then is sloppy. Already ordered a new tunnel and rear bearing. The front bearing is on the way. Found a place near by that sells the O rings. Am I correct in thinking that the front lubrication line lubes the front bearing and then the oil/fuel carries down the tube and lubes the rear bearing?

RE: How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
Ok guys.. I found why she locked up...And you guys nailed it on the head. The rear bearing seat has score marks all around. The outer race spun. This tunnel did not have a grove for an o ring. Now I have to order a new tunnel. and while Im at it to be on the safe side..Ill need another rear bearing to. (probably should have ordered that in the first place[&o])..but was convinced that the problem was in the front. Other than that..there is no signs of the compressor wearing on the NGV and all else looks pretty darn new. New Tunnel and bearing have been ordered. $150 for two new bearings and a tunnel including shipping. Thanks invertmast Im well aware of Calos. He's the king when it comes to these engines. It was him that last worked on it. Problem is that everytime I ship or receive from the US.. I get ****ed over royally with all the extortion fees and Duties and what ever else, even though its under warentee work. Just WAY cheaper to go anywhere else in the world.
ORIGINAL: jason Vettster I have a Ram750 in bits here at the moment. To get the preload working I needed to fit new O rings as the originals seemed to have swelled which stopped the bearing from returning forward when push back against the wavy washer, just some else to check while you have it in bits. I dont recall exactly...but i think it was changed 2 years ago when it was last in. it hasnt had many flights on it since then. To be clear hear.. I never heard the bearing going in the air. It was on the spool up that everything locked up. When I turned the compressor by hand.. I could hear the bearing grinding.

RE: How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
Yes Bob. That was the idea[;)] The last time I sent this motor in, it cost a fortune. Well about $800[:D] Hardly worth spending that kind of money on a motor thats only worth well...about $800[:D] Geoff..thats a good tip for those who may do work on their own in the future. Mine was a perfect fit. Not to tight and not to loose..(insert jokes here[:)]) I just painted the casing. I picked up some header paint good for 1020C Its not just your regular spray on header paint that you watch burn off when you start the engine .lol This paint has a whole process. First you bake it in the oven at 250F and then 400F and finally 600F. Looks much better now.[8D]

RE: How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
I had to tap into my EDF experience to balance the shaft[:)] but got her done. I leveled a level and then added a bar of styrene that was polished as smooth as glass. Since I never removed the wheel from the shaft, really all I had to do was match the compressor to the wheel, and since the compressor is already balanced, it wasnt that hard to do. I got is so that no matter what fin is pointed up, the shaft will not rotate.

RE: How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
Ok... The Burner can looks 100% ok. I pulled the outer raceway out without to much trouble. The Wave washer was by no means jammed at all, so thats good. I found the arrows on the bearing, so Im getting a better understanding of how they work. Only problem is..there was no alignment marks for the compressor to match with the rear wheel[:o] Guess Im going to have to balance that myself. Thanks for the link Jason.. That will be a big help. Ok..Thanks for your help guys! I ordered the bearing from xicoy. Nothing to do now but wait. So when its time to preload all this..(BTW..its a front preload) How much torque is enough. I have to admit..I was a bit intimidated by these engines having not really worked on one before..but once you get into it..its just sooo simple. Im sure there are many things I could have screwed up.. but with you guys helping, it pretty simple isnt it..lol Thanks for your help guys! Trevor

RE: How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
Ok.. so Im down to the bearings. The rear ones actually feel pretty darn good and the shaft spins very freely without any grinding at all. The front ones on the other hand are very gritty. The front bearings inner raceway fell out before I could observe which direction it sits on the shaft. From the pictures..could someone please tell me what is the correct way. Does anyone know the type of bearing it is and where to get a replacement. Do I have to remove the 4 screws holding the shaft tunnel on? There a SOB to get out. Can I leave the shaft tunnel on and just heat the hole thing and knock the raceway out.

How to rebuild a RAM 750..cause I dont know..lol
Hey guys... Im asking everyone with knowledge how to rebuild Turbines to help me with this project. For starters.. Im not just some guy that picked up a cheap engine and wants to fly. I have 4 Turbine years under my belt and 3 working turbines. I work as a Welder/Fitter so Im very mechanically inclined. BUT! I have never attempted to do this kind of thing before and would appreciate all the help I can get.[;)] 2 years ago I was having fuel problems and I did manage to make it as far at to re and re the motor as far as taking the fuel wicks out and cleaning them. The engine has run since then..but the bearing are now making noise. I can hear a faint grinding noise and hear the ball bearing clicking over which says to me that one is missing.(I could be wrong) The last time I ran it...The engine was spooling up and all of a sudden she just locked up. This prompted me to shelf it. I now have to many planes and not enough engines, so I figured why not rebuild this one for my Sprint Jet. The photos where as far as I got. Whats next?

RE: Avonds F104G Starfighter build thread.
Thanks Guys! There will be plently more video and pics to follow[;)] Geoff.. I built this plane with the sole intnet of flying it from Sod grass. I reinforced the gear mounts with CF and used the wire struts instead of the oleos, so they give way rather than transmitting the stress to the gear mounts. The power is more than enough to get her up to speed for rotation. Oh and probably the most important part for Grass operations... I made sure to place all the fuel over the CG both forward and rearward, so that the jet isnt really nose heavy on take off. It would probably be no problem on a paved runway, but on deep grass, your already at a disadvantage. Go for it!! you wont regret it. Trevor

RE: Avonds F104G Starfighter build thread.
Success!![:D] I flew the Maned Missile today, and all went good enough. Cant say it went great...cause I do have minor issues to deal with. But I was able to do two laps and was simply amazed at how easy this plane flys with such small wings. The take off was earlier than expected and very scale like. It just gently picked up speed and before I knew it, she decided to lift off. Just needed a couple clicks of down elevator but then she was locked in. The not so good part was that it seemed to kick right unexpectedly. So rather than chance it, I only did two circuits and brought her back in. I was amazed at how simple this plane was to land. She was lined up with the runway with the nose high and descending nicely. I didnt have to do anything but wait to flair. This was my first Kit build, and let me tell you guys..It will also be my last. My hats off to you guys that build kits. Your a special breed. Its just not for me though. I would much rather build a primmered ARF and paint the crap out of it. In the end...I cant wait to get the small bugs fixed so I can get this bird in the air agian.. Trev ps...Siddus.. You were asking about the temps? Ideling on the ground, the highest reading was 615c. Dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing to be honest. But the more I powered up.. the lower the temp would drop. I think full throttle was around 450ish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99MfLwftw7c
