RE: Fly Eagle Jet F-14 Crash (video)
ORIGINAL: Airplanes400
ORIGINAL: tj coleman I have the latest honeycomb version of the FEJ F-14 and have just received the new wings with the PE slats having paid for them months before they actually sent them. the formers in mine are honeycomb with some CF overlay. after seeing the video and the reports and then the X-Ray and finally Dantley's photo's of the destroyed Elevators I feel I need to stop. I have installed the rudder and elevator servo's and mechanisms but seems like i need to strip them out and re work the tail and maybe even lay up some more CF inside the aft end of the fus up to the former behind the engines. Or......remove all the formers and replace with plywood and/or CF and then pull the elevators apart and rework them with Maple blocks and better anti rotation bolts etc. any ideas from anyone on the best way to go? I am loath to continue as the design and construction is obviously not fit. Very sorry for your sad loss Dantley! Tom.
Save yourself a lot of time and effort ... take the jet outside, pour some fuel on it and set it on fire. Otherwise, you will end up spending 800 hours and another year on it only for the same fireball to happen on the first flight.
Interesting comment coming from a government employee...geez ?? Vin... Btw I have a name...do you??

RE: Gyro not working
ORIGINAL: Airplanes400 Gyros are worthless in my opinion. Setting them up takes hours, then you have to adjust them. What a nightmare! Learn to fly without them. You will be better off, and actually learn to use the rudder effectively!
If I was posting on this thread last year at this time I would have said the same as Mr400. Recently I installed a $75 Eagle Tree gaurdian in my 1/7th F16 as a test bed. I am only running rudder and ailerons in 3D mode with the heading hold turned off. I was always cautious about flying in our ever present cross wind at svf. This simple gyro has changed the way I fly and has helped me in conditions where I would have grounded myself. I have since installed this gyro in my other two jets and will have one onboard in my next project. Vin...

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
ORIGINAL: essyou35 I forgot another important thing. There are is one airframe that I would rather fly EDF due to the risk, and in some cases the lack of turbine support. For example. a ME-262 is a cool jet but very difficult to fly. there are numerous vids on youtube of all sizes of me-262 doing the same slip stall take off and plowing in, including a twin turbine powered one. So I would rather have a 262 in an EDF version becuase its too easy to crash these, as even a small thrust differential can cause that slip stall crash. Definition of slip stall: Air craft pulls up, appears to fly ok but suddently rolls hard one way, then the other, and yawing all over then dumping over and going straight down. :) I've seen some cubs do it somewhat but the 262 seems to have its own special take off stall. Also, anything with thrust vectoring I would rather keep EDF as I tend to be way more risky with it.
Well that explains it...[:-] Vin...

RE: One Pound residual thrust too high for an 18 pound Tams 1/8th F-16?
I have owned quite a few F-16`s over the years and dont think the idle thrust will be a problem with the right approach as described in the other posts. You also have to assume there will be some wind to contend with which may require some throttle on final. I would go with the P-100 simply for the extra power and for use down the road on a bigger jet. I believe the motor is the same size as the VT-80 so either one would be the same fit. The VT-80 does have a little higher idle rpm (45k) than the P-100 (42k) so maybe you could find out if the VT-80 idle could be turned down slightly to lower the idle thrust. Vin...

RE: Question for P100-RX Owners
There is also a "full throttle" setting on that page which stays at the "fast" setting. RE: Fuel additives
Joe, I have never used to additive but it cant hurt to try it as a precaution. A fellow club member here is Az. was having some serious shut down (static) problems last year with his Ultra Lightening and jetcat motor. The fuel additive did not work in his jet because the static was not generated by the fuel flow. We found out it was being caused by a tire slightly rubbing on the strut while the jet was rolling. Anti static spray on the wheels would work fine every time but the final fix was to repair the rubbing tire and run a ground wire to all of the gear and terminate it at the tail pipe where the static was discharged thru a small soild tube. After that was done there were no more shut downs. Vin...
