RE: rc-bearings.com
Hi all Got in touch with Paul, seem to be having problems with emails to him bouncing, and he is going to re-send my order which is pretty good service.

rc-bearings.com
Hi all Has anyone had problems with rc-bearings.com recently? About two months ago I ordered a couple of bearing sets, credit card was charged and they were apparently shipped on the 22nd May. The bearings still haven't arrived as of today. I sent them an email about a week ago and haven't had a reply. I have now noticed that thier website has lost a lot of products and my account no longer exists.

RE: Club MAGNUM !
I have got ASP's, a 75 in my 4*60, 46 in my Q500 Viper and a 52 sitting waiting to go into a CAP232. The 75 has run well but is currently in pieces as the crankshaft broke last weekend. No idea how it went as I noticed the engine feeling funny before I tried starting it, so unlikely that it broke due to the engine being flooded. Also it has never been crashed. Looking at the break it looks like that it maybe has been fractured for a while and finally let go during the previous flight. Have a replacement crankshaft now so will rebuild it at the weekend. The 46 is running well, has survived two crashes will no ill effects. I think it took a while to run-in properly. Only problems with it have been the muffler halves coming loose and the muffler screws coming loose too. Once my pylon flying gets better I think it will be competive.

CAP 232 Kit
Hi All I have a 40 size CAP232 no-brand kit that came with a pretty basic plan. Problem is there are no thrust lines marked on the plan or firewall. Looking at the GP CAP232 mine appears to be the same size (wingspan and length) so was hoping some one could tell me where the thrust line should be. It would be great if I could get the dimensions of the firewall to just to check the location Thanks Vaughan

RE: Four Star 60 Firewall
I had an incident with mine a few months ago. Came out of a roll and the plane kept rolling, needed full left aileron to correct it. Managed to bring it in safely but dropped a wing tip at the last minute and broke two of the CA hinges near the tip. Easy to fix, just cut the aileron off and used Dubro pinned hinges to reattach it. Found that problem was that I had not soldered the clevis (the one supplied with the kit) on properly, it eventually failed and slid down the push rod a bit giving a lot of aileron. Made sure to re-do the solder joint on the other side at the same time.

Hi Have a look here [link]http://www.wmmfc.co.uk/[/link] there is a great Tiger Moth plan there, very detailed although the plan is in german but most things are obvious. The wingspan is about 1400mm from memory. Cheers Vaughan

RE: Radio Frequencies-Change 40.830 to 40.835
There are no rules in New Zealand about changing xtal's. In your example a change of 5kHz (probably even 10 or 20kHz) won't make that much of a difference in the radio system performance. However going from one end of the band to the other will probably cause issues. This is because the RF output stages are tuned to a particular frequency (ie the one that it is sold with) in the factory.

RE: Antenas
The length will be a compromise for the entire range of the RX. I guess this is why Futaba split the band on thier RX's, they are able to tune the front end a little better for a high band or low band and get that little bit extra performance out of the RX. As Rodney said, with the corect gear and know how you could accurately tune your RX for the frequency that you use.

RE: Antenas
Technically frequency = speed of light divided by wavelength so for 49MHz this is 6.2m. Now an ideal antenna is a quarter of the wavelength you want to receive so 6.2/4 = 1.55m. Now if you measure your antenna you will probably find that it is not the theoretical quater wavelength length, it will be less. This is because the receiver design uses what is called a base loaded antenna, that is it has other components to "trick" the RX front end into thinking it has the correct length antenna attached. This helps fine tune the sensitivity. In other words the front end of the RX is tuned to a specific frequency and antenna length to give maximum sensitivity changing the length will not improve the range. As for increasing the frequency to increase the range this won't work. To get greater range you need to decrease the frequency this is why technology such as Bluetooth will only work over a short distance. So at the end of the day the only way to get a greater range is to either increase your TX power (which is illegal as TX power is stricly controlled under the terms of the radio licence that we use) or get a RX with better sensitivity which involves looking at specs for ranges etc. Cheers Vaughan

Thanks for the comments guys. It is currently in the garage awaiting a new muffler as at the weekend the back half of the muffler decided to part company while it was at the top of a loop. The muffler half is somewhere in a farmers field opposite our field. [:@] Dunno why the engine manufactuers can't just make them one piece.

Yet another 4*60
Hey all Since we are sharing pics of our new planes here are some of my new 4*60. Test flight was last weekend, all it needed was a few clicks of alieron and a few of rudder. Flys great, I think I am really going to enjoy flying it. Like how it goes where you point it and it feels really stable. Was built completely stock standard and is poered with an ASP 75 two stroke. And yes it is Grommit flying it [:D] Cheers Vaughan

You sure he didn't mean adjust the clevis's on the push rods so that the trim on the radio could be set back to neutral? Otherwise I guess he was talking about using the sub-trim function which I have no idea about for your particular radio. Cheers Vaughan

RE: 4 Star 60 Antenna Route...
True hence the rubber band to absord a bit of shock. Also made a strain reeif from a cut off servo arm so that if the wire does get pulled it won't pull out of the RX. I have also seen another plane where the antenna was taken out the side and up to the top of the tail. Anyway I thought that Wellington wind would be more of a worry than a bumpy field [:D]

RE: 4 Star 60 Antenna Route...
Hi I maidened mine at the weekend, flew great I am very happy with it. I routed my antenna out a small hole just behind the former at the back of the wing cut out, straight down the underside of the fuse and hooked it with a rubber band to a small hook I made on the tail wheel mount. Haven't got any pics but I hope that makes sense. Cheers Vaughan

RE: How do you use a home iron for coating?
The answer would be very carefully [:D] It is easy enough to do, make sure the iron is set to dry (no steam) and use one of the lower heat settings. I would suggest that you start with the lowest setting and increase it slowly till the bubbles dissappear. I haven't used a cloth under the iron but if you are concerned about the finish then it would be wise to. If you are only taking out bubbles you shouldn't need a cloth, just hover the iron slightly above the surface. I have seen pictures of an ARF factory in China where they were using standard household irons (probably from the factory next door [:)] ) to apply covering. Cheers Vaughan

RE: MY NEW LT-40 HAS ARRIVED - Any advice?
Hi there I have been flying an LT-40 for about a year, mine was the ARF as I couldn't wait to get flying [:)] As to your questions: 1. Assuming they are the same wheels in the kit as the ARF (a kind of high density foam) they are perfectly fine and have lasted well on mine. 2. I am running an OS 45FSR on mine with a 11x7 (from memory) prop and this is plenty of power without being overpowered. Remember that you do have a throttle stick [;)] Our club trainer has a OS 46LA on it. The 46 is a good sized engine for these planes. 3. I have not had any problems with the stock landing gear apart from the mains spreading outwards a little from numerous heavy landings. The nose gear has had a bit of a beating but nothing that could not be fixed. Biggest problem was that it would bend back. I would reccomend that once you have got it setup right to file a flat on the leg where the screw is to stop the leg from rotating round. Also the only time I have broken props is once when the plane went in nose first on a bad landing and the other was when I mis-judged when the pilot box safety fence was, caught a wing tip andthe plane swung round and into the fence, breaking the prop. Never had a prop break from a heavy landing although we do fly on a grass strip. Hope this helps Vaughan
