RE: Horizon Hobby Carbon Cub SS
I was wondering weather or not you guys think it would be worth putting the 3000KV motor in this plane. I have switched out the 2500 on my Beast 3D and installed the 3000KV, and it made a world of difference. Now the UMX Beast is truely 3D.I understand that the Carbon Cub is a different type of airframe, but I'm planning to fly one from floats and thought the extra HP might be worth it.Thanks,Bert

RE: PARKZONES NEW P-47
OK, it's been a while since I've been on here. Haven't flown my P-47 for quite a while. It seems that with the retracts installed the gear are really close to the CG, and she want's tot tip over during takeoff attempts and forget about taxiing back to the pit area. I have been told that I'm probably flying here a little too nose heavy. So if you guys know of a good safe CG point that will help with my taxi problems and still not cause major flight problems, please let me know. Oh, and what would you consider to be the best replacement prop for the Jug and still be something I can buy readily at a LHS or order from HH. Thanks guys, keep 'em flying, Bert

Hey, that's too bad. Hopefully you'll hear something from someone when you get the flyers out. Wind and first time flyers rarely get along. Hope you get it back.

Looks great, seems to have plenty of power. Prices keep going up, but this one has a lot going for it. I'll probably have one sooner or later but I'll wait until I've seen the new Mig first.

RE: Where do you stand?
I would stand in either F-3 or G-3 so I could have the sun at my back, as much as possible, and my flight path would be mainly from B-3 to J-8 to keep me over the longest open flight path available. This would also make it easy to land into the wind at a 90* angle to you position on the field.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
I don't know that there is anything wrong, but I'd check the push rods for ease of movement and make sure the push rod is not flexing under load, My SC LP is a very old girl but still using the stock servos. I'm not sure what holes my control rods are in, but I can tell you that I fly here with enugh deflection in the rudder that it almost touches the elevator when at full deflection in both directions. With that much movement I've been very happy with the way she flys. Might want just a little less for a rookie but as you know too little rudder is not good either. I'd take the wing off and plug in the battery (maybe take the prop off, or be very careful) and then move both the rudder and elevator servo to see if they both move the same distance at full stick deflection. Should be easy to tell if the rudder servo is not keeping up.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
I think you will really enjoy her when you get her done. With floats the Park 480 is a very good choice. When you need to make turns on the water, you will need to apply rudder and give a healthy burst of throttle. The SC could really use a water rudder. But that's a bit more of a job. Someday I'll get around to mouning another servo, either in the belly or maybe right on the floats, so I can have a proper water rudder. Good luck and post some pictures when you get her finished.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
Hey, hey, thought I should let you know that I finished the rebuild on the SC a week or so ago. We had a warm up here so I took her out last Saturday and flew her at our local field. The little SC now has a Park 480 on a CustomRCparts motor mount and gets 2200 3S 30C batteries standing vertically. Speaking of verticle, take off roll is 3 feet or less and endless vertical. Even thought I'm still using the non aileron wing, at full throttle she does the snappiest barrel roll. Wanted to thank you agian for your generosity, and helping me complete this mod to our fire breathing SC. May the air under your wings be blessed many times, Bert

Thanks for the information. And I thought I'd let you know that Santa delivered a box with a battery cage inside. It's just what we needed and I think we can repair the crack. We'll try some MEK first and it that don't work, I'll use some Welders glue on it. If eveything else fails we'll wrap it up in some glass cloth and soak it with epoxy resin. You sure didn't have to send it First Class Mail, but we are thankful for the gift. Bert

RE: Official Hobby Zone
PM, returned. Hey, I just thought of something. You always have very good looking video. I have been thinking of getting a new video camera. I know that there is probably a proper forum to find this kind of information, but could you tell me which brand and model of camera you use? I don't want to spend too much on a camera if I don't have to. Thoughts of the VHS camera that I bought many years ago, only to have it sit around collecting dust keep coming into my mind. Seems like a never ending list of things I want to do in this hobby and a never ending list of stuff I need to do it. Ain't this a great hobby!

RE: Parkzone NEW BRUSHLESS (YES!!!) P-51 Mustang RTF and BNF
My Beast is almost here. It's marked out for delivery on the UPS website. Don't know when I'll get a chance to fly it, but I'm sure excited about it arriving. I had a bit of a run-in with the folks down at HH. It really ticked me off when they announced that the only way to buy a new Beast is in the BNF Basic. So I called and sent them a couple of emails. At first I didn't think there was any effect. But last week I got a call from one of the sales managers. I explained that while I had more than a dozen Horizon aircraft down in the shop, not one of them used the same battery/charger system that was installed on the Beast. I also told them that I couldn't believe that Horizon was not interested in expanding their customer base (Beast wise) beyond those people who alread owned the Beast. I asked if they really in fact believed that very few people who didn't own the Beast would purchase one. I was told that in fact that was exactly what they believed. Well we talked for a while longer, and I finally said you know if I could have purchased a Full Fledged BNF Beast for the same price that you are selling the UMX Gee Bee, I would already own one. At the point I thing the HH rep decided to call my bluff. Only I wasn't bluffing and now I have a full fledged BNF Beast on the BBT headed for my house.

PM is on the way, I'll have to send you some of or lovely flying weather. I know it gets a little warm where you are. This time of year we don't worry about that too much. I'll have to put the floats on for the winter soon, but no snow on the ground yet. That won't last. Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays to you and yours, Bert PS, Be sure to let me know how much the shipping is, so I can compensate you for it. And thanks again.

RE: E-flite UMX Beast 3D BNF
As someone who has never owned a Beast, but is excited about the new 3D Beast, I'm a little pissed at Horizon Hobby for only offering a BNF Basic kit. What is that, no battery no charger...how can they call it BNF? But if you live in Australia you get the complete BNF kit with Battery and Charger. Just look at the BNF that Chuck T Seeker got. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaH62AQyRIU&feature=related If I buy the UMX Gee Bee I would get the complete BNF kit with battery and charger for $169.99. But I have to pay $139.99 for the 3D Beast BNF Basic kit and then buy a battery and charger which brings the price up to $185.97. Hey if I could buy a complete 3D Beast BNF kit with battery and charger, I would already own one. Sometimes I guess I'm just to stupid to understand. Thanks Horizon for teaching me another lesson.

Wanted I'm looking for a SC LP battery box. The part that fits up inside the fuselage. I want to try a new battery arangement and my battery box is already modified. So I"m hoping to find someone who has a fulelage that has been damaged beyound repair but still has a good battery box. The folks at Horizon Hobby could not help. They don't sell that part. And I don't really want to buy a whole new fuselage in order to get the battery box. Thanks guys, Bert

RE: Official Hobby Zone
First off, depending on which brushless motor you have and what parts came with the cub, I would not put it back to stock. It flys OK on the stock motor but just OK. The stock motor is also prone to burning out. You can look around on the pages at the Horizon Hobby website but I don't think you will find the screw size listed there. You could call Horizon Hobby and ask one of the techs. They're very good am always helpful (1-877-504-0233) read my post above about leaving a call back number. Here are a few links you may find useful. http://www.horizonhobby.com/content/_support_render-contact-us http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/super-cub-lp-bnf-HBZ7380 http://www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/HBZ7380-Manual.pdf I can tell you that the spinner just pushes on the end of the prop shaft. It's just a friction fit. Your best bet to get all the parts you need is probably a well stocked hobby shop. All the parts for the SC LP are available and many of the better hobby shops keep them in stock. You may be able to buy them seperate but even if you buy a whole new firewall with screws it's less than two bucks. http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/firewall-with-screws-super-cub-lp-HBZ7114 One other thing that is helpful. When you go to the manual online you will see a parts listing several pages into the manual. Most of the part numbers are there. You can go on the Horizon Hobby site and put those numbers (such as HBZ7114, Fire wall with screws) in the search box and the page for ordering that part will come up. But in this case the screws are not listed seperately. Keep reading post here on this thread, you'll learn a lot. And good luck with it and keep us posted on your progress. If you haven't flown before, find a instructor. At the very least, fly on a flight simulator on a computer. But get all the help you can. It will save you money and frustration. Bert

RE: Official Hobby Zone
Sorry nobody has replyed to your question. I don't know for sure but I don't think you can use the stock esc for a brushless. But you could call the guys at Horizon and ask. They would know for sure and you'd get a quicker answer. !-877-504-0233. When you call they will probably be busy. You will be given the option of leaving a call back number. Do that and they will call you back. It may take an hour or even two, but they will call you back. If you call right at the time they open you can probably get a tech on the phone. But you've got to be right on time. Here's a link to the page with their hours of operation. http://www.horizonhobby.com/content/_support_render-contact-us Good luck.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
Yes, I'm sure what you've done will help insure you go much further in the hobby than many who choose a different route. Lessons are good. Some are tougher to learn than others.....Don't fly near the trees....Stay 3 mistakes high while learning to fly....Yes, you need a trainer aircraft to learn to fly. Having an instructor give you lessons is usually much less painful, and a lot less expensive. Sounds like you're on the right path.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
If you change the leads out from one connector to the other, one at a time, then the leads don't have the chance to make contact with each other and it's realitively safe. Of course you should always do these things in a safe place. But why throw the flaming battery into your neighbors back yard?

RE: FunJet Ultra or Stryker...
Buy the Stryker and don't give it a second thought. Build it as stock and fly the heck out of it. We have a young man (11) in our area who I'm sure is one of the top 100 3D pilots in the US. When you watch him ring the Stryker out and give it everything he can think of and the plane handles it all well, you know it's a good one. I love mine.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
Personally I like 15 or 30 minute epoxy for those types of repairs. You could also use Gorilla glue (the brown stuff) but it will expand and will need to be wiped off with a wet paper towl as it oozes out of the crack. The epoxy can also be a little messy when putting it into a crack like that. I wait until the epoxy is showing the first signs of setting up, and then wipe off the excess with Isopropal (rubbing) alchol. Just use a damp paper towl and don't soak the repair with alchol, it will weaken the joint. The alchol may remove some of the paint but you can buy good touch up paint in a bottle at your local hobby shop. Use something small, like a tooth pick or some thin plastic to help work the glue into the crack.

RE: Official Hobby Zone
Good luck flying in the morning. I have a new F27Q Stryker in the shop. Just opened the box and I'm reading the manual and thinking about things I want to do during assembly. For one I think I'm going to epoxy the vertical stabs in place. The kit calls for 2 sided tape to hold them in. I don't like the look of it nor the idea of flying something that is real fast and aerobatic and having the stabilizers held on with tape. Should be fun, if I can keep her in the air....

Here's my advice. Contact the experts by phone at the number below. The best way to do it is either call at 8:00AM during the week. You must call right at 8:00 AM or you will be put on hold. Or, on a day when you will be home for a few hours, call the number and wait until you are prompted to leave a call back phone number. Leave your number and wait for the call. One of the Customer Support staff will call you back. Those guys are very good. If they don't have the answer right off the top of their head, they can ask around and find out while you're on the phone. I've do this several time and always found them very helpful. RE: Official Hobby Zone
I have very little experience with a NiMh powered model. Therefore I would give this advice very little credence. Be that as it may, I am guessing that if you have been running the model at full throttle for extended periods of time without the prop, you may have damaged the ESC. Just a guess and a very weak one at that. If I were you I would call Horizon Hobby and ask them.

With the Park 450 motor I use an APC 10X7 E. APC make fine props, but if you haven't been doing this long you may want to study up on prop balancing. Even the best props need to be balanced.
