RE: Octoberfest 2012
Hmmm. Decisions, decisions. The Nottingham is the closest, but it is spartan, to say the least. But, at $85/nite, it is a lot more attractive than the $140-180 other places available.Hey, a bed is a bed.

RE: Anhedral Stab back in the Day?
Definitively, the anhedral stab was used to control the pitch down tendency in knife edge when the rudder hinge line was moved back to vertical. In knife edge, think about this: the fuse had a positive angle of attack. The bent stab then gave an effective "up elevator" component. Visualize it, please. The same effect can be had by moving the rudder hinge line to less than vertical. Think "Taurus" generation. That effect was for extra up elevator for spin entry, but take one of those (Taurus, Orion, Perigee, etc.) and put it in knife edge, add the rudder, and behold, it climbs to the canopy like a demon!Downside of the anhedral stab is that in a cross-wind, it would make the plane pitch up. Rudder hinge angle did not have that problem. In the desire for true neutral response to control inputs, most designers left the rudder hinge line vertical, and compromised by doing other things. Remember, in the Curare days, there was no control mixing in the Tx.Does that help to clear things up?

I want a really quiet day to test, this 7 foot model only weighs 14 ounces. I may try to get it done in the AM, it seems the evenings all have "fresh breezes". Have to test

RE: What is this?
Vertical stab rake-back in early (Taurus era) planes was about 30-45 degrees, and added a significant up-elevator component to assist in spin maneuvers, since CG's were forward of later designs. Think of the rudder at 90 degrees to get the idea. In the late 70's/early 80's, a bit of rake angle (10-15 degrees) was used to compensate for the "pitch to belly" in knife edge. Much less than needed for the earlier spin stuff. This places your model square in the 1975-82 age range. Of course, some designers just thought it looked cool.................

I lean towards the body profile being a Taurus with thinner wing. Can someone photo-shop it like they did for the P-1?

Yes, the painting was a bear. Assembled pic & in-flight will be coming soon, I promise! Probably a 40% chance it will be tomorrow evening, depending on wind conditions. Here in the NorthEast USA we have had unsettled weather for a week now, with afternoon thunderstorms and breezy conditions. I want a calm day for first flight.

I suppose so. But then to make any trim adjustments would have been harder to get to. I did have to put about 1/2 ounce of lead in the tail anyway.

BTW, that scale is the baby scale my mom used to weigh me on, lo these 62 years ago! Great for modeling. A couple of more shots, the radio install, and the rudder pull-pull and elevator pushrod.I did tie the canopy with a bit of twine to the structure, because the magnets might not survive a prop hit on restart.

FINISHED!!!!Final all-up weight, with battery & all, is..... (drum roll.....) 14 ounces. Yay! The outrigger 450 will make this bird a homesick angel, fer sure. That's with an 800 mAh 2-cell LiPo, enough for a full afternoon of cruising around.

OK, I've removed the bad paint (w/qtips & thinner), then re-masked and hand-painted the edges. Looks OK from 6 ft away, I'm done painting. Just have to install a few components, and we are ready to fly!

RE: Cleveland 84
I am so disappointed in the painting of this model. The covering I chose does not take paint well. Here is how the bottom red on the fuse looks, I will have to do a lot of clean-up to make it acceptable. In fact, it it so bad, I will not paint the tail as I was planning, just leaving it plain. Sorry this build is so long between posts, but I am disgusted and have just dropped it for awhile.
