RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
I did the windows per the instructions if I remember right, it has been a while. I decided to solder the wires behind the former as I thought it would look cleaner and also help lock the wires into the former. I believe the cabin structure is stronger when built with the open door mod, you will see when you are finished that it is rock solid and it really doesn't add much weight to the plane. Later!! These are probably the best pics I have of the top center shape, The trailing edge taperes up from the bottom not down fom the top. This keeps the wing surface smooth along the top. Anthony

RE: WACO YMF
You will definetly need to space the cowl for engine cooling, mine is powered by a DL-50. You plane looks like it has the correct YMF cowling. I painted the plane with Krylon gloss white and trimmed with Krylon Gloss True Blue. The blisters on the cowl were a bear to mask and paint. All the blue is trimmed out with 3M 1/16" black Pinstripe tape. If you want to add some extra scale goodies like panels etc: let me know and I can e-mail you some pics of my plane during the building/detailing stage that may help. I put somewhere around 900hrs in the plane and took lots of pics as I went. My 33% that I am building now will have more detail. If you want detail pics just PM me your e-mail address and I will send the pics in batches. Later!! Anthony

[quote]ORIGINAL: reyn3545 It's all white right now, 21st century cloth covered, no reported damage... but reportedly needs a little TLC...[image] [/quote] Overall it looks pretty good, my Pepino Waco has yet to fly as I well have pretty much gotten lazy. I plan on flying it in the spring. Once you get the plane I do have the plans and I can dig them out and give you the balance info if you need it. The plans had alot of errors so hopefully the person took the time to fix them. I can see the airfoil shape is incorrect at the top wing center section but most people will not notice that(hope you don't mine me pointing that out). Should make a nice plane once you put the finishing touches on. Here are a couple pics of my Pepino Waco. Later!! Anthony

I prefer to stick the Koverall down with dope, I have used PolyC for filling the weave and hiding the seams and it works very well also. The PolyC has to dry good before it will sand without balling up. If the finish is done properly all the seams will all but dissapear. I have used Latex paint as well as Krylon spray cans with good results over the Koverall. My 1st plane covered with Koverall was my 1/4 Cub and it is 5 years old and still looks new. No more plastic film being used on my planes. Here are a few of my planes covered with Koverall. Later!! Anthony

RE: WACO YMF
Jim, Your Local Radio Shack will also have a selection of LED's and the resistors that you will need to wire in with them. You can get a better Idea of the size by looking at them 1st hand. Well scratch that as I just read your reply above and see you do not have a radio shack available. I suggest you ask around for someone who has used LED's for landing lights. I purchased some recommended lights for Nav lights and have no idea which ones would be best for landing lights. Later!! Anthony

RE: who makes a piper cub for a 100cc petrol engine?
AMR will be releasing a 42% J-3 sometime in 2010, there kits are very nice and I am currently building their 33% Waco. Their web site states the Cub will require a 100/120cc Twin for power. Should be approx 180" Span. Good Luck!! Anthony

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
If you look back in the thread I was able to get my servo's installled under the rear seat. They are a little tough to reach for installing the screws and hooking up the controls but it works just fine for me and they are out of sight. I suggest using a pull/pull on the rudder. All my servo's in the fuse are under the rear seat even the throttle, the battery is under the fuel tank and the plane balanced without any additional weight. Later!! Anthony

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
Just found the inserts I was talking about, you have to buy them by the 10pk and they are $25. They are key locking inserts. You do not want to use the stainless inserts with stainless bolts or they will gauld. I suggest getting carbon steel inserts. [link=http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/guideBrowse.shtml] Key Locking inserts[/link] Well scratch that the link will not work, you will have to do a search for them on Graingers site. Later!! RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
Lonnie, Don't worry about the templates, I knew it was a job I had coming just hoping to avoid[:D] That is a great idea of putting a threaded insert into the gear legs, we use them at work in our tooling all the time and if I may suggest try to find some Jergensen inserts. They are much stronger than heli-coils especially in aluminum. They are a thick walled insert, basically a threaded hole inside a piece of threaded rod with pins that you drive into place after screwing the insert in flush. You may be able to find then at Grainger.com or another tooling supply house. Later!! Anthony

RE: Dumb question?
The Steen Skybolt is a homebuilt aircraft and that is what the GP Skybolt is modeled after. You can build the plane to house many different engine combinations. Just like us R/C modelers homebuilders will throw just about anything into a plane if it will fit.

Lonnie, Any news about your gear and cuff situation? I finished up installing my aileron hinges today on the last aileron when I got home from work. I am sitting here pondering mounting the wings and working on the 'N' struts. Do you happen to have templates for the metal straps you made for the struts? I can figure it out with trial and error on card stock but no sense in reinventing the wheel. Later!! Anthony

RE: AMR 33% Waco YMF-5 Build
Lonnie, The pants look really good, the cuffs will be an issue. I was running into the same problem when I was making my cuffs. I molded mine on the pant with it mounted to assure I had enogh clearance for the nut. With this I could not get the cuff to look right and after 3 frustrating tries I gave up. Every now and then I look at it and decide to do something else. I hope you have better luck than me. Anthony
