RE: Electric Retracts for .60 Size Corsair?
I would like to see the pictures of the FMS retract installation. Sure can't beat the price. Apparently they just plug in to the receiver so you don't need anything else except the struts and wheels. Thanks for the replies. Bill

Electric Retracts for .60 Size Corsair?
I want to convert my Hanger 9 .60 size Corsair to electric retracts. I would appreciate any suggestions as to which are the best for the least buck. Bill

RE: Tuning with your snoot up in the air
The whole purpose for the 'nose up' test is to make sure the engine is not too lean. The proper way to do it is to adjust the needle with the plane level and THEN stick the nose up with it running at full throttle. If it loses rpms then it's too lean. Richen it up a little and try again. You'll never catch me adjusting my engine anywhere but behind the prop. Some of us needed to learn that the hard way! Bill

Radio Expert, Help!
I have a Hanger9 Corsair that was built by someone else that is set up on a Futaba 9C radio (converted to 2.4) using the R617FS 7-channel receiver. The left aileron is plugged into channel 1 and the right aileron is plugged into channel 6 and the ailerons work fine. I'm trying to change the setup to my Futaba 10CG radio and after binding it to the xmttr the right aileron works fine but the left aileron servo goes to full up deflection. I have endlessly studied the instruction books for both transmitters and there is no mention of how this setup is done other than just plugging the servos in to ch 1 & ch 6 or 7. Is there some kind of 'mix' step in there that I don't understand or what? I would very much appreciate any help. Bill

RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
I have built many Sig kits over the years. Trained on a 3-channel Kadet and another high wing I can't remember the name of. 2 Kougars and 2 King Kobras, my favorites. Both KKs with mechanical retracts, one with a Webra speed .61 with dynamix carb...A Rocket!! The other a 20 year old one with an OS .61FX, also great. Just lost that one the other day due to my stupidity. I am ordering another one. Greatest flying airplane in my 35+ years experience. More recently the XS300, Mayhem and the Waco SRE. I was not able to get the yellow Sig Aerocote from Sig for repairs on the SRE last year although I did get a replacement for a defective bottom wing for it. Bill Waco Brotherhood #21

RE: Music at R/C Warbird Events: YEA or NAY? Please VOTE!
Airplanes make their own music. None required at any event, be it full scale or model. A pet peeve is warbird videos with the warbird sounds blocked out by what they erroneously call 'music' these days. NAAAYYY!!!

RE: Can anyone ID this plane???????
If it was a two-holer I would say a Pietenpol Air Camper. They are homebuilts so I guess they could be built in a one-holer configuration.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Hi Dave Yes, I have the A&M 4.2 with Purr-Power. However, I can't see how a single bolt could be used for the Menz prop. The engine has a short threaded shaft and the cast hub on the Byron prop has the magnet in it for the magnetic pickup sensor for the C-H ignition. I'm thinking that, somehow, you have a different 4.2 engine or a different ignition. The Byron Pow'r Prop drawing shows an alternate 2-blade hub which is configured to accept the magnet. This could be used for the Menz 3-blade if the hub was available. With Iron Bay out of the modelling business I don't believe I could get one. I would sure be interested to learn more details of your setup. Thanks for your responses. Bill

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Thanks for the response, Dave. Did you mean that you used the Menz 3-blade with the Purr-Power mount or did you not use the Purr-Power? According to the instructions there is a special adapter required for using other than the Byron prop supplied. I'm sure I couldn't get the adapter from Iron Bay. The Purr-Power engine & mount is already installed in this case (not by me but done with excellent workmanship) so I don't have the option of not using it. I would love to not use the Byron prop because, as I said, if I ding a blade I'm out of business. I concur with the flattening pitch of plastic props and don't like them. The Menz would be the answer if it could be adapted to the Purr-power. Bill

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Hey Guys I've been enjoying this thread since I have bought a Byron Corsair kit fairly recently. I have been wanting one for many years and finally got one. Mine has the Purr-Power system with the 3-bladed prop. However, after stewing on it for a while I have about talked myself out of building it. Reason? If I ding a prop blade I'm out of business since a replacement blade would be unavailable and there is a special adapter required to use a standard 2-blade prop. This would also probably be unavailable. Anyone have any info or advice that would help me make the big decision? It would be appreciated. Bill

RE: whats the best warbird ARF you own and why
Hanger9 Corsair without a doubt (once I got the landing gear links beefed up). Light, flies like a sport plane and looks great in the air. The guys at the field love to see it fly. If I crash it I will buy another one. Come to think of it, I might just buy another one for when they stop making it. Bill WACO Brotherhood #21

RE: Sig's new Waco SRE
I have a landing gear problem with my SRE. It's the nylon bushings that fit into the aluminum landing gear struts that the axles go through. After 3 or 4 landings (smooth landings! It's hard to make any other kind with this airplane) the bushings came out and made the wheels rub the pants resulting in a nasty nose over. Inspection showed that the axles were binding in the bushings instead of sliding back and forth with the flex and that pulled the bushings out. I cleaned the axles and added a little lube and solved that issue but now the bushings won't stay in place. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and figured out a fix for it. New bushings might help if I could get some from SIG. Otherwise, I love the airplane. It flies great on my O.S. FS-91. Bill WACO Brotherhood #21

RE: Type of Glue
I use Ambroid (acetate) glue for edge gluing sheets for sheeting wings, etc. It sands the easiest of all in my experience. I've had no trouble with ridges in the sheeting. I true up the edges with a long sanding block so they fit tightly together then tape them together edge to edge, bend them toward each other to open up the crack, spread the glue along the joint and then lay them on a flat surface and clean off the glue that oozes out. They can be weighted down or put strips of masking tape on the top side to hold them flat and then add weights. Works for me every time. Bill WACO Brotherhood #21

RE: Need help with ID of this Cub
Mine has the flat wing spar joiners exactly like yours. I got it second hand and was told it was a Hanger 9. I'm not familiar with the World Models Cub but I do know that when H9 first came out with the 100" ARF Cub, it was fabric covered as mine is. (And as a Cub should be!) Bill WACO Brotherhood #21

RE: Need help with ID of this Cub
I'd say it's the Hanger 9 ARF 100" Cub. Just compared your photos with the one in my shop and it looks identical around the cabin area. Seems to be some decals missing, though. Mine is one of the original fabric covered versions but later they were film covered. If it is a H9 you can get the cowl and windshield from Horizon Hobbies. Bill WACO Brotherhood #21

RE: Sig's new Waco SRE
Okay, Guys. Thanks for your input. I hadn't considered shimming the right thrust but that may be the answer. With the engine centered on the firewall there is about 1/4" of clearance on each side so I'll work from that angle. The idea of putting gasket material on the inside of the cowl should prevent any distortion. I have some asbestos gasket material that might work well also. Thanks again for the suggestions and I'll let you know how it works out. Bill

RE: Sig's new Waco SRE
The right wing tip of the bottom wing was defective on mine. A joint wasn't glued. Sig replaced it right away. Silver Kiwi... How much clearance do you have between the rocker arm covers and the cowl with your Saito 100? I've got a great running OS FT-120 twin I'm trying to use but due to the engine being mounted off center to compensate for the right thrust, one rocker arm cover touches the inside of the cowl. I think the heat would distort the fiberglass. I certainly will NOT cut a clearance hole in the cowl. Any ideas?
