RE: Koverall/Coverite/Dope
Hi Steve, you must be moving right along on that Waco. Mine's ready to go again after I fell on it while hanging another bird. Koverall is good stuff, but give some thought to Solartex from Balsa USA (and others). A little expensive, but fantastic to work with and it will take paint. Walt

RE: Pica Waco YMF
Steve, pop me a PM. I have two copies of the manual and a badly cut up set of plans. I'll be happy to send you one of the manuals, but since I'm still flying my WACO (which, by the way, I acquired under similar circumstances) I want to keep the plans, but I could copy parts of them if you need them. RE: wooden electric props?
First off, props don't care what the power source is that turns them. The hitch is that most e-props are under cambered to take advantage of the torque of motors, so e-specific props will perform differently than IC props of the same numbers. Best way to check is by using your whatt meter to check amp draw and a tact to check rpm. Walt

RE: Speed controller wire length -Stafford B-24?
Don't know about the RCG forum, but the definitive answer to this question can be found at the AstroFlight web site. Bob Boucher was a pioneer in e-power. Short answer is length of wires from motor to esc doesn't matter. Length of wires from battery to ESC should be as short as possible. Walt

K2R from your local bodega is the way to go. May take a number of applications, but it always does the job. As a college student I frequently rebuilt the results of somebody's "oops"; K2R always took care of the oil problem. Walt

RE: Batteries
A number followed by a lower case "s" indicates the number of cells wired in series (thus the "s"). A number followed by a lower case "p" indicates the number of cells wired in parallel. without getting too complicated wiring cells in series gives more power; in parallel, more duration. A pack designated 3s2p tells you the you have two packs of there cells in series that have then been wired in parallel with one another. Sounds like you might be used to the old nickle metal type cells that have a so-called "nominal" voltage of 1.2 volts per cell so adding on cell didn't make a whole lot of difference. Lipos have a nominal voltage of 3.7 and charge up to 4.22 at full charge. Adding one cell makes a BIG difference. Using your 950kv motor (kv equals rpm/per volt under ideal conditions), if we add one nickle metal cell rpm would increase by 1235 (using a fully charged voltage of 1.3). Now do the same with a 4.2 volt LiPo and you get a 3990 rpm increase that's a bunch. There are all kinds of analogies for mah and v. Try these: mah indicates the size of the gas tank; v indicate the compression ratio; amps equal the rate of fuel consumption. Hope this all helps

RE: Brushless motor question
Two things: "no load" suggests no prop which equals no cooling air which equals HEAT. Brushless motors don't do well with no cooling. second: perhaps you exceeded the voltage design limit of the motor which is determined by the number of winds and the gage of the wire. Walt

RE: proper hook up of system
Not familiar with all of your equipment, but I suspect that you have to move the throttle stick to high and back to low in order to arm the ESC. this is a very common safety procedure. The beeps sometimes tell you the number of cells the ESC has detected and/or whether the brake function is on or off. Hope this helps. Walt

The discharge rate of the Lipo has no effect on the ESC. The LiPo will only give out as many amps as the motor demands. A 35C LiPo merely has the claimed potential to give up amps at that rate. Walt
