RE: power 25 brushless can i use a 11x7 prop?
Which airplane are you powering with this motor?

RE: power 25 brushless can i use a 11x7 prop?
The 13x6.5 prop will be the best and create the maximum safe loads using 3s packs. The RPMs will drop as you increase both the pitch and diameter. Go up in diameter means go down in pitch. A 12x6 will draw about the same load as a 11x7 or a 13x5. The way to choose the right one is based on type of model.... a light weight sleek racer would use a smaller diameter but aggressive pitch... like a 10x9 on this motor. A heavy and big trainer would use the 13x6.5 or even a 14x5. -WL

RE: power 25 brushless can i use a 11x7 prop?
The 12x8 I find to stall and not produce as much thrust during take offs because the prop can't bite into the airstream going that slowly in the air. That apc 13x6.5e will be the best for a 3s pack.

RE: power 25 brushless can i use a 11x7 prop?
The 4s setup should show about 12.8 volts under a 44A load .... so 12.8v x 44a = 563.2 watts. A freshly charged battery will have higher voltages at first but slowly drop as it drains. Set the ESC low-voltage cut-off at 3.2volts per cell -WL

The voltage at the time you're reading amps.

RE: power 25 brushless can i use a 11x7 prop?
Using your 40A ESC you might not be able to use an 11x7 prop unless that ESC can handle more than 40A for a few more seconds, then it should work because you'll not be flying full power all the time, unless you want to fly like a rocket. Another choice would be a 3S lipo and an APC 13x6.5e . Better thrust but less speed. The 4.5lb plane would fly about 50mph but would be cruising for about 10 minutes on a 3S 2650mAH 20C LiPo battery. - WL

RE: power 25 brushless can i use a 11x7 prop?
Watts= amps you read on the meter multiplied by the voltage from the batteries. This motor will produce the best power on a 4s lipo (20C or higher) and an APC 11x7e using at least a 50A esc. Use at least a 2200mAH 20C lipo because the current this motor will pull is @45A at full throttle and your battery must be rated to handle a constant 45-50Amps. I use a Castle Creations Phoenix ICE 50 lite ESC with my Power 25. This is enough power to fly a 2kg (4.5lbs) plane about 60mph. I get 7 minutes flying using a 4s 2650 20C. This setup is good for @ 78 oz thrust and will give verticle climbs on a 60 oz model. - WL

Sofar there are 80 flights on my NexStar with the 7sA123 2300 and APC 14x8.5E on Orbit 25-16 & CC ICE-75..... No issues and runs like new. 25 minutes on 2100-2200mA. Plane weighs 3kg. -WL

RE: Hobbico NexStar ARF to electric
Here are some of the logs. Now that I have a way to show them. Longest level flight 7sA123 2300 apc 14x8.5E low timing... Plane only needs @85w to fly well =) and Last 6 flights.... Playing around shows power @450-600w for fast sport flying and manuvers =) Each spike @1100watts is going full throttle after a slow flyby @30 into the 90 degree vertical pull out and up to 500 feet. Takes about 6 seconds to climb =) -WL

RE: Hobbico NexStar ARF to electric
From the data, this plane only needs @125W to maintain level flight with a small amount of climb, @5 degrees climb. If a person used a 4s Lipo pack and a 500W motor it would work just fine. I just happened to build it with the ability of 1600W on a 6s Lipo pack, but I use 7sA123 2300mA packs because they DON'T CATCH ON FIRE [:-] -WL

RE: Hobbico NexStar ARF to electric
The stock wing mounting system works perfectly fine. My nylon wing bolt nut is cracked but it's been fine the past 50 flights after I noticed it (the rubber sleeve around the nut holds it really tight and snug against the threads). I'm still using the original wing bolt at 80+ flights and should replace it......... But the ARF kit materials have been flawless. I would like to have ordered a Clark-Y foam core wing and glassed it to save about 10 ounces over the stock nitro ARF NexStar wing. If you have foam core wing building experience you can get them from this link below. I made the ARF wing flat, no dihedral and the plane tracks extreamly well. http://www.flyingfoam.com/CustomMain.html I also used regular 1.6oz digital servos that came with my D7 Spectrum radio. A person could use (4) 1oz HS-225MG servos and be just fine. With a new lighter wing and servos the plane would have better inverted flight charactoristics and weigh @93-94 oz. @215w/lb The plane is a rocket at 106oz as is now, so why complain? I'm so happy with this setup! Like I have said..... I'm still in the air when the first 7sA123 is done charging. I use the 720i Net3 charger from Hyperion which charges at 250watts (7s balancing and 10A charging). This is a trainer and slow flights of 20+ minutes can be boring, but you can go vertical any time you want. I still get a kick out of coming in for a slow landing and throttle up into vertical until 500 feet. It's like cheating. I will post a few videos the next time I go out to the field. I'll have someone else fly it as I tape LOL. Cross your fingers. -WL

Okay OK, I'm done counting at 80 flights. The 7sA123's continue to run like new, the plane still flies like new, the motor is smooth and never needs oil in the bearrings. It's a great model and has never touched a wingtip on landing. -WL/DSD

RE: Flutter on Skyraider mach 2!
My observation was in regards to Club-40 pylon racing and the fact that for some strange reason, lol... I was the only one in the group who "just had to be non-comforming!" We have onboard GPS that show some SRM2s hitting 125mph, while mine had flutter @105mph.. I'm not sure this mod can be used on the pylon racer since rules are pretty simple, few things can be modified. But I like the idea and will add them to my other SRM2 I don't race. -WL

RE: Flutter on Skyraider mach 2!
I found my aileron torque tubes loose and CA'd them in place. Flutter is gone. There are 15 other SRM2 in our club-40 group, all running the TT .40 Pro and mine was the only one to flutter. Some of these are noticably faster than mine. -WL

RE: Flutter on Skyraider mach 2!
I had flutter today on my 7th full tank at full throttle on my club-40 SRM2 with the TT.40 Pro and break-in APC 10x6 prop. The flutter appeared during a 25 degree run with a strong tail wind. Perhaps @120mph flight speed. It had never appeared on the previous 6 flights but it wasn't nearly as windy before. I landed it right away and checked for tail tale signs of loose linkages, torn covering, something loose and even the spinner and muffler... found nothing. So I put it back up and it fluttered again doing the same shallow dive at full throttle. Landed it and took off the stock plactic spinner and back plate.... it still flutters so it wasn't a fluttering spinner lol.. Landed it and taped the elevator and rudder hinge lines...... it still fluttered. Taped the aileron hinge lines and the fluttering went away. I'm now at the hobby bench to tighten the control linkages and CA the aileron torque rod tubes. I'll update in a few days. I'm only getting 16,000 rpm on the APC 10x6 and will be going to the APC 9.5x7.5 prop which will give me more speed. -WL

RE: Hobbico NexStar ARF to electric
I found out today that my huge deep cycle battery is good for only 12 charges of a 7sA123 2300 pack =/ 12 x marathon of 15 minute flights landing only to swap packs on the charger........ 3 solid hours of relaxing 40% throttle. LOL, I need another matching Trojan deep cycle battery and run them in 24v series. The 720i charger loves 24 volts! Sofar 60 flights and about to stop counting. The batteries continue to take in 2230mA....... still act new. I love A123's and this motor! -WL

RE: Plettenberg Orbit 25-16 Max Watts? Max RPMs?
I have since prop'd this motor using a 6S 2200mA Lipo pack with full power of 1640W on an APC 14x8.5E. I only run full power for less than 5 seconds every few minutes...... the motor does not show any signs of wear. What a beautiful motor! I can putt around for 24 minutes @30% throttle for Sunday flying, or awe! others with a slow fly-by and punch it! and pull straight up and to 500ft in 5 seconds. I love this motor! -WL

RE: Hobbico NexStar ARF to electric
I ordered 2 more A123 cells to turn my packs into a 7s A123 2300mA packs. They weigh 20 oz each now, this makes the NexStar 110 ounces. With an APC 14x8.5E on 7s-A123 it's right at 1250W/65A straight up at full throttle. @180W/lb. This is a great model, a real treat to fly. It cruises for 25 minutes @30% throttle on 2300mA. The batteries are charged way before I need to land the plane. I did 8 flights in a row with only taking a minute or so to land and swap packs on the charger/model. I use a Hyperion EOS 720i Net 3 7S 20A 250watt Balancing Charger at 10Amps I love A123!!!!!! -WL

RE: Hobbico NexStar ARF to electric
Today I set up the Cg for a 6S 2200mA Lipo pack and timed the Castle Creations Pheonix ICE-75 for Normal Timing and kept the APC 14x8.5E prop..... Motor pulls 70A @1610 watts for fast verticles and throttles down for 25 minute @30% throttle for sunday flying. All on a 2200mA pack. I really like this set up as the plane takes off like a rocket! I flew the A123 cells and it wasn't the same =/ but the A123 cells charge in under 10 minutes where the Lipos are double that. The A123's seem to be the best for sport use. There are 36 flights sofar on the model.

I agree, there are some good craftsmen in the forum [:D] Once, I asked someone about plans and then there was a long pause..... So, plans are a myth! LOL.... Either the gentleman offering to send a PDF either fell off the Earth or they, fell off the face of the Earth. Wow, sorry, I do sense a repeating pattern developing. I would like plans to make my own 72 inch model in shaped foam to make a set of molds so I can lay up a few CF hulls for my brother and I.... twin motors for @ 3500W and a 14s4p 9200mAh A123LiFe pack. Yea, good for 10 minutes WOT, 30 minute recharges. -WL
