RE: Joysway Super Mono X
I finally got my SMX to a lake and was able to get 3 more fantastic runs. This is a great little boat. Flipped her 2 times on her hatch, no problem, just a blip of throttle, she self rights, and I was off again. Still running all original stock. 1800mah batteries 3S. I only run for 4 minutes (WOT) to keep down the heat. Batteries come in around 3.82 per cell. The motor comes in hot, but not overly hot. Love this lil bugger. I oil the motor bearings at the end of the day. Now to build my new shaft Hey MassiveO, Did you get your Icon A5 yet?
ORIGINAL: hobby_man I just read the tech note at the aquacraft web site. I registered the boat, so they know I own it, this memo should have been sent out to all registered owners WTF? I felt bad about the motor frying, I just got over that! A _ick head move by some 24 year old marketing idiot at Aquacraft! This pisses me off, I called the tech's and told them over and over that this boat is getting too hot! they blew me off!
My 1st revolt had serious alignment issues with the motor and stuffing tube/flex shaft alignment. I called Hobbico and the tech guy said "its fine to run it that way as long as the shaft isn't rubbing the brass tube" BS, I sent it back to Tower and they sent a replacement. The replacement still isn't aligned perfect. Aquacraft has drunk chimps building these boats.

Maybe call them and tell them you just found out about the issue. They should have included a hard copy of the issues needing attention with the manual. The chimps doing the fix probably have no idea about the water inlet, nor will they have the tools (or knowledge) to fix it. The only way I knew about it is by wasting my time on these forums

RE: Aquacraft Revolt 30
There lies your problem sir. Check the Aquacraft website for an addenum about 2 issues with this boat. 1. water inlet 2. removal of glue from shipping tape on the hatch/canopy The water inlet on the rudder needs to be opened up and elongated to allow more water flow through the cooling system. I used my dremel and a round jewelers file to open up and extend the water inlet cooling hole on the rudder (towards the leading edge of the rudder) I also found A LOT of aluminum shavings inside the cooling inlet hole on the rudder (from when it was drilled out at the factory in China) which would have surely clogged or blocked the entire cooling system Good luck sir! And keep us posted.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I called Towerhobbies and they were nice enough to send me a UPS return label, so my defective Silver/white Revolt 30 is on her way back. I hope the next one they send isn't as screwed up as the first. Seeing the pictures of what it "should" look like makes me glad I sent it back.
ORIGINAL: MassiveOverkill Hey Wave, make sure you measure the total distance from your transom to the prop as you'll want to keep this measurement as the baseline with your new setup. I've experimented a little with prop distance closer and further away than stock and it makes a big difference in handling and the prevention of crabbing\walking as does the battery location fore\aft.
Ok, thanks for the heads up. I got 2 more runs in (finally the prop/shaft stayed put) on the SMX yesterday evening. My wife had never seen me run it before, and she couldn't stop laughing when she saw how fast it is. My parts arrived today from OSE. Great service. 2 days all the way from Maryland?? thanks for the help I think I understand. So, the flex shaft is cut then right? Does the permatex hold everything together? So...short piece of flex inside brass tubing which fits inside new propshaft stub. then teflon liner (or brass tubing) over stub ? Will the new smaller prop shaft stub you linked for me fit the prop I have?

Well, even after removing both grub srews and re-loktiting and tightening the grubs as hard as I could the prop shaft let loose again.???? Should I solder the end where the grubs seat? Also, my stock tx is acting funky. Motor still runs (very slowly) even when trigger is released. I have to mess with the trigger to get the motor to stop.
ORIGINAL: MassiveOverkill Wave, you going to make a rig so you can use your SMX as a rescue boat?
I will be using my NQD jet boat for a rescue. Tennis ball w/ 20lb fishing line. Put the ball in the nook behind the drivers, motor out and around troubled boat and pull ball with boat back in. Or just have my Labrador retriever do it for me Just kidding, I DON'T have a dog and would never do something as stupid as having a dog retrieve an RC Boat. I like the idea of using the baby ducks (w/ hooks attached) from the rc jet duck setup. Would prolly work perfect w/ my jet boat. The SMX is purely for speed runs. I love the roost she throws up. Thats why I want something bigger and faster.

RE: Which boat would you get?
Thanks everyone for the input. I don't think a tunnel hull will be good for me. too much wind in the afternoon. I'm leaning towards the Revolt 30 Rx ready. Although, I'm intrigued by the Motley. Not too excited about the plastic prop it comes with. Any of these RTR's I purchase I will be changing out the shaft and props and connectors. I would like to get at least 1 run without having to change anything. So maybe the Motley is out of the question. The Motley is tempting w/ the $30 mail in rebate that is good for buying more parts, and I have the $50 off code for tower, I also like the Impulse 31. I can get that boat for $300 plus shipping. Decisions, decisions, decisions

Hey MassiveO, Have you figured out the range of the stock tx and rx? I am wondering if I should bother switching over to my Futaba gear?
ORIGINAL: kilr95ss Now, back on topic. As far as a RTR, I would go with the Traxxas Spartan. It's 6s capable out of the box, has aluminum hardware including a adjustable stinger and comes with Castle motor and esc.
I'll pass on the Traxxas Fartan. All the reading/research I've done says the Fartan is the biggest POS FE anyone could ever waste their money on. No offense to Spartan owners, what do I know as a newb anyway?

RE: Which boat would you get?
ORIGINAL: kilr95ss That's not a excuse, if you dont have time to build, how do you have time to enjoy the hobby.? If he is going to buy speed, a $200-$300 rtr is not going to buy much. 30mph out of the box doesn't excite you for too long and paying someone to build a FE is gonna cost a whole lot more than doing it yourself.
I do enjoy building, however, I'd rather be flying or piloting. With a full time job, 3 year old son to take care of, and a house to maintain, my "me time" is limited. It took me 4 weeks to mod my NQD. 8 weeks to build my 550 size helicopter. The RTR option for me is the way to go. (Even though most of the time it means READY TO REPAIR or READY TO FAIL) I like the idea of the Revolt30 with different prop, and sharpened hardware etc. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'm still open to other ideas, keep em coming!

Which boat would you get?
I have the addiction in a bad way . I've finally found a legal place to run, and am ready for a bigger FE than what I already have. (NQD "tear into" and SuperMonoX) I have a ton of batteries for my aircraft, but not too many 2S packs. I am hoping to use the batteries I already own. I'm thinking either the Impulse31, Motley Crew, or Revolt 30. I have a good tx and extra rx's. I don't have much free time to build. I'd like the new Impulse coming out, but it doesn't look available until October. Where I will be running, should be smooth conditions in the a.m., and slight chop from wind later in the day. (Medium size pond) Buying from towerhobbies is a plus because I get free shipping and I have $50 off $300 code. Also, I can get discounted price for Pro-Boat from Wholesaletrains.com, but pay out the whazoo for shipping. Thanks for helping out a fellow addict
